Republican Newt Gingrich credited his wife and blind persistence for pulling his campaign back from the brink of disaster in the 2012 race. But an expert suggests circumstance really controls his newfound fame.
Gingrich praised his third wife Callista, whom he said pieced his campaign back together after key staffers quit and media allegations crashed it, and his own persistence for his new lead in Politico’s eBook The Right Fights Back, released Wednesday.
Callista, he said, dug into the campaign, becoming “a very good surrogate.” Gingrich said he too dug deeper into the GOP presidential nominee race, refusing to acknowledge that the campaign was failing.
“I was the only guy in the room who didn’t know I was dead,” he said in the book.
News polls show Gingrich surging ahead of October front-runner Herman Cain and experienced contender Mitt Romney. The former speaker leads Romney by as much as 4 percent in CNN/ Opinion Research and Quinnipiac polls – a far cry from his standing in July when he barely garnered 5 percent of support in the polls.

N.C. State University Political Science Professor Andrew Taylor argues that all Gingrich may have really done was successfully benefited from the political mishaps of others.
“I think a great deal of what has helped was sort of the rise and falls and sort of failings of some his competitors,” he told The Christian Post.

Gingrich said he ignored advisers who suggested his younger third wife, whom he met during an extramarital affair, should not be so close to the campaign. Now he said she has become as integral to him as Nancy Reagan was to Ronald Reagan.

Yep. Pretty sure that all Jesus meant was “I’m not going to kill you for being an adultress.” It is well known that Jesus held grudges, blamed people for their past failings despite repentance, etc.
Christians are always people who have led completely pure lives, like St. Augustine.
If Calista confessed her sins, did pennance, and amended her life - that’s the end of it according to her faith.

An un-married person can’t commit adultry. A married person can commit adultry. You are judging her when you say she’s a home wrecker or a slut.
Let’s leave the name calling alone and, as I said, let God deal with it. Newt’s wife is his wife, that’s what she is.

Welcome. I would generally agree about the narcissism but then again that is a feature of politicians in general. The question for me is whether Newt has truly grown or is simply playing to his desire to be front and center. If he can show convincingly that he has learned from his mistakes then the power to him. I’m never one to expect perfection what I’m more interested in is whether I see a person who has overcome their flawed human nature and if they are someone I can trust that their arrow is in the right direction.
That is the one reason I can not support Romney even though there is no evidence of infidelity etc. When the rubber meets the road can I count on him to hold firm or cave to ‘bipartisanship’ etc. The last thing we need is a President who cares more about accomplishing ‘something’ rather than accomplishing ‘the right thing’. I worry about Newt on this count to some degree also but I do know at least with him that he will not back down easily but he does have the tendency to be his own worst enemy. Newt reminds me of Nixon and that is something I just can’t shake just as Romney reminds me of Gerald Ford/HW Bush.
I’d prefer Cain, Bachman, Paul and Santorum over him but what I expect will happen if he maintains momentum into the first primaries then there is a good chance he will knock Romney out of the race. If Romney doesn’t win NH you can stick a fork in him. Over the next few weeks we can expect Romney to start digging into his war chest heavily in an attempt at a late surge. He’s already started doing it now. I don’t believe the late surge is going to happen and history tends to agree with that because he tried the same thing in 2008 and McCain came back from single digits to win NH but that is clearly his strategy.
If Newt knocks out Romney which if Romney doesn’t win at least something respectable in the first round of primaries that would be very likely then suddenly Newt becomes the new Romney and there are a lot of primaries left and I fully expect conservatives will shift towards either Bachmann or Perry provided Cain drops out which it looks to be the case. Now this assumes that Perry, Bachman hang on which I believe they will. I’m more doubtful of Santorum. I did see one sign for him in NC.
This race isn’t over by far and the fluid dynamic is following an unconventional path but even so the path is very similar to 2008. I just hope when the ball stops its on a better candidate than Newt or Romney. Now there is always the wild card in the race which is Ron Paul. His primary fault being dismissive of the Iranian threat, etc which I believe is why his rocket ship has continued to fail to launch because his fiscal policy ideas are the best by far.
If only we could pair Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann. ;-)

Newt is not the (flabby) white knight you seem to think he is. Those who point out his failings are doing you a favor. Wait until, if he can pull it off, he becomes the nominee. The MSM will savage him relentlessly, 24/7, and say about him things a thousand times worse than anything you’ve heard from conservatives. If you can’t stand hearing about the shabby, ugly things he’s done, you’re in for a very long, difficult time.

We got a problem. Neuter is not one of us. He is one of them, now. He’s doing this for revenge...for his having been rejected previously by the GOP for his infidelities of the past. His current wife, which he brags, best be checking his emails. He has a record of infidelity.
Bottom line, This is Neuters way of saying shove it where the sun don’t shine, to the GOP. Revenge is his.
Meanwhile, conservatism takes it where the sun don’t shine.

So conservatives should not vet their candidates. Pointing out things the MSM will use against them is wrong? This is not a religious thread, and forgiveness has nothing to do w it. It’s a thread about how Newt has left himself open to a brutal savaging by the MSM if he wins the nomination. If we pretend it’s all behind him, then people will vote for him thinking he’s looking good. In fact, he’ll be so bloodied and dirtied in the general (if he is the nominee) only his most ardent fans will likely end up voting for him. Moderates and many independents will probably want nothing to do w him by the time the MSM is done.
Good for you. Just to review, a child predator is someone who rapes children. Marrying a 34 year old woman is not equivlent to raping a child.
If you are familiar with cancer treatment of this type it basically destroys a man's testicles and more than likely can leave him impotent for the rest of his life.
Perhaps that is the reason why Herman Cain emphatically denies he didn't have a sexual relationship with these women. Because he can't! With the loss of his testicles he loses his hormones and coupled with his age perhaps his sex drive is diminished as well.
This is a huge thing for any made to admit, if it is the case.
We will see tomorrow what Herman Cain's situation is. In the meantime, prayers up to Herman and his Family.
