Romney Declines Lincoln-Douglas Debate Against Gingrich

With the Republican presidential primary appearing to have narrowed into a two-man contest, Human Events and Red State moved quickly to lock down a date for a Lincoln-Douglas-style debate between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich.

The two organizations went so far this past Monday as to firm up the Annenberg Theater at the Newseum in Washington as the venue on Dec. 19 after another debate originally scheduled that day was canceled. For its part, the Newseum was excited to host the pre-primary forum.

There was just one problem. While Gingrich was ready to take his place on the stage, the Romney campaign politely declined in a series of mostly e-mail exchanges.

As Joe Guerriero, a Human Events editor, put it to RCP: “Newt was all over it, and the Romney camp basically said no. It wasn’t a harsh no, but it was a no.”

Wrong. When someone is out to get you - he knows the game. And the smart ones know enough not to fight. The smart ones pick their battles. Everyone knows that - why don't you? Your obsession of Newt is over board; thus you fail at credibility.

I agree. He tells us what we need and what he will do - close the border. LOL! Both Perry and Newt explained how they would do - because the whole border isn't the same. Mitt has yet to do that. I think those debates with Newt he would have to - not a blurb on what he will do - or tell us we need to create jobs - DUH! - and he's the man to do it. LOL! Tell us Dick Tracey - how will you do it - in detail. He doesn't care - he just wants to be president. And with the most money and with the media behind him - he's trailing Newt and Cain nipping at his heels. Both facing accusations of one kind or another and both not having a big war chest. Mitt, no mud slung at him, all the money and media protection.

Sarah had the chance to stand in the spotlight and change the image the MSM painted her as. Had she done well at the debates it could well have turned the perception of her around. Hell, look at Newt... She decided to sit it out so the MSM image remains unchallenged...

Yes Elsie, there are several scriptures in the bible that would lump quite a few people into the adultery category. The one you quoted came out during Jimmy Carter’s presidency.

Newt already laid out a strategy to deal with that... a strategy that probably wouldn't be such a good idea against Romney.
