Cain: My wife didn’t know that I was giving money to my accuser ("Yes, getting out is an option")
Hotair ^ | 12/02/2011 | Allahpundit

Here’s the news people on Twitter are buzzing about from tonight’s raincheck interview with the Manchester Union-Leader. We already knew this, though — sort of. Cain told Wolf Blitzer on Monday, before we had heard Ginger White’s name, that his wife didn’t know White. (Skip to 7:30 of this clip.) That’s ever so slightly different from saying his wife didn’t know about White or that he was sending her cash, but c’mon: If she did know that, don’t you think he would have mentioned it to Blitzer as proof that their friendship was no secret?

Cain said that in about 70 text messages she sent him between Oct. 22 and Nov. 18, White was “asking for financial assistance. She was out of work and had trouble paying her bills and I had known her as a friend.

“She wasn’t the only friend who I had helped in these tough economic times, and so her messages to me were relating to ‘need money for rent’ or whatever the case may be. I don’t remember all the specifics.”…

“My wife now knows,” Cain said. “My wife and I have talked about it and I have explained it to her. My wife understands that I’m a soft-hearted giving person.”…

He said White did not threaten to go public with the allegation of an affair if Cain did not give her money, “nor was there any indication that there might be blackmail or anything like that…

Cain said he does not know why White has gone public with the allegation, “but I have very strong speculation that someone offered her a lot of money.

Supposedly she was desperate for cash, desperate enough that she’d risk ruining the marriage of a friend who’d been sweet enough to give her money by lying in exchange for a payout from some shadowy enemy — yet not so desperate that she’d try to blackmail Cain himself? If that’s true, she has a strange moral code.

Here’s the vid of the Union-Leader interview. Skip ahead to 22:00 and 46:00 for a few questions about White. Cain’s lawyer is pushing back by demanding copies of her phone records to try to prove that she was the one sending most of the texts, but even if that’s true, his polls are what they are. I can understand him wanting to stay in the race on principle if he’s innocent, but his support is now a wasting asset; if he wants to exchange it for something valuable, the sooner he does it, the better. Romney’s desperate to keep Cain’s supporters from bolting for Gingrich so he’d probably offer Cain something in return for an endorsement (Cain endorsed him in 2008, remember), but … what could he offer? A cabinet appointment or ambassadorship requires Senate approval, which would mean new scrutiny from Democrats of the harassment charges, White’s allegations, etc. Plus, endorsing Romney this time would complicate Cain’s brand as an authentic grassroots conservative anti-establishmentarian and he needs that brand to protect his chances at a show on Fox or a new talk-radio gig. Then again, endorsing Gingrich wouldn’t do much for his brand either. If he doesn’t endorse Mitt, then who? (Speaking of Newt, check out our very clever frontrunner turning a question about Cain into a play for social cons.)

One thing Romney has that Cain increasingly needs is campaign cash. According to WaPo, the Cain Train is almost out of steam financially, to the point where they can’t afford to run ads rebutting all the charges against him. If he ends up in debt, Romney could promise to erase his liabilities in return for an endorsement and some appearances on the stump. Obviously, though, that’ll matter much more to Romney when Cain’s still at 10-15 percent than when he’s at five. Tick tock. Click the image to watch.

That is disgusting. I suppose Bush and Palin brought it upon themselves too for all the knee jerk reactions.

You might ask yourself why we haven’t had a conservative candidate for a long time. Could be some people are buying the crap sandwiches out there.

>> What are we fighting? Communism via stuff like EPA AGW, etc,, redistributing wealth? Crony capitalism, globalist movement, gun grabbers, etc.

Of course! That’s why I lean towards Perry over Cain. Same dismal poll ratings, unfortunately, but Perry articulates a hard-boiled anti-big-government and anti-redistribution stance that beats Cain’s (IMO). And no bimbo eruptions to bring him down.

Don't look for a rational reason for White's actions...you will not find one.

Look instead at her life. Even if not everything we read is true there is still more than enough to realize that she is a head case who has led a life of confusion, "victim-hood" and bad decisions. There is no indication that she has ever made a smart choice - including her relationship with Cain.

People like her don't play by the rules...they don't even know that the rules exist.

The next question then becomes..."What the heck was Herman thinking....where was his judgement?"

I saw his interview on Hannity.

I've actually known people who would give money to others simply because they are nice people.

I don't think he was boffing Ginger.

With that said, I don't think he is our best candidate, but we ought to defend him because conservatives shouldn't fear being destroyed because they get in the ring.

All the accusations against Cain are he said/she said.

If a guy is a dog there are going to be third parties and material documents that pop up to reveal it.

Palin recovered from a lot worse.

Oh really?

Something drove her out of running. I suspect that it had a lot more to do with McGinniss' book than with any sudden concern for the family (after all - it was the only new element).

This one I tend to believe. There is no way anyone would help support a woman for 13 years and not tell their wife. Where there is smoke there is fire in this case.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
yep.
There’s only one way I can think of that I can believe cain did nothing wrong. That is if this woman went to the same church as cain and he was helping not just her but a couple others as well. But if that was the case, I can’t see this woman going to the media in attempt to ruin his political career.
"No way I could ever vote for Newt Gingrich."
We are on the same page. President Gingrich sounds like president Grinch. That is NOT why I don't care for him. He is just another Washington Politician. Lining his own pockets first, second, third, 4th .................infinity. . .
Romney just as bad. . . . . . and all the rest left in our (MSM) pool. . . . .
I can imagine Herman Cain being naively honest when he thinks "there aren't any more out there" if his mind just doesn't go in that direction. That is, his conscience is clear, but he hasn't been thinking politically. At some point (probably after the second bimbo eruption), he should have done an internal audit, looking for situations that, politically, looked bad and gone over those with his campaign staff.
It worries me much more, however, that in the debates he still goes for the broad strokes rather than having personal opinions on any given major topic of the day. As a conservative talk show host, he should have heard varying positions on all these issues and formed his own viewpoints about them beyond "I will define the problem then get the right people working on them." It was particularly embarrassing in the Cain/Gingrich debate when he would ponder, then tell Newt to go first. That Libya question in another interview was more of the same. For someone in his position, he needs to have a specific starting viewpoint on all these topics. At this point, he is Nancy Pelosi saying, "we have to pass the bill to see what is in it." Not acceptable.
What exactly was the good deed?
Was it giving a woman money as part of a thirteen year long on-again - off-again "relationship"?
Or was it hiding both the thirteen year long "relationship" and the gifts from his wife?
"Where exactly is the blame for the people, the Left, who are actually doing this?"
I am not sure exactly what you mean. If you mean the left made this up, I bought that dog for a while and had to sell it for a loss. I could care less if he spent every night with the bimbo. I could care less how much money he gave her. I believed him when he said it was all a lie. Then he comes out and says he gave her money without his wife's knowledge, after telling us that he didn't. I remember at the beginning of this one he said his wife knew her too. That turned out to be a lie. That did it for me. I don't care what he does now, he lost me.
I will be sniffing glue now until its all over.
I hear you. Could you kindly recommend a good, cost-effective brand for a n00b gluesniffer like me to start with?
But shouldn’t he have told his wife?
Yeah, but I can also see how Cain might have done it without much thinking too. It's not like the Cains have to count their pennies.
Let's see if Ginger has any photos of the two of them. Or any kind of letters other than some autographed copies of his book containing vague statements of friendship. LOL.
You think with a 13-year affair Herman might have at least left a toothbrush or pair of shorts at one of her places.
Or maybe he's just a super-careful dawg who only bangs bankrupt psycho-b*tches who he knows nobody will believe if they go public.
Right now, I'm thinking that he's a decent, naive guy who is easy for some people to take advantage of.
I am just going by what Mr. Cain said, which was that he never told his wife. This was something she was not made aware of, which I find odd.
I didn’t say no one knew....I have no idea if anyone else did nor didn’t know.
I know if I found out that my husband had been communicating with a “friend” who was female for 13 years, as well as give her money, well, let’s just say I’d be a little on the suspicious side.
