Erick's whole post is good, and I encourage all to read it in its entirety. However, I chose to excerpt the portion about Jon Huntsman. Erickson is no shrinking violet, and pulls no punches when it comes to calling out RINOs....specifically Mitt Romney. Erick makes a convincing case (as I have) that Huntsman is more conservative than Newt or Mitt. If not for crappy campaign strategy, he might well have a commanding lead right now. But the situation is what it is, and he is staking everything on New Hampshire. Huntsman has been steadily gaining ground there, and I honestly believe that with the volatility of the race, an upset win by Huntsman in NH will make him a frontrunner.

Huntsman is also the only GOP candidate who has carried Obama’s water. And he would have the same Mormon baggage, to some, as Romney does.

How do you explain away Huntsman joining the Obama administration? I see Erick doesn’t address that at all.

I’m not opposed to taking another look at Huntsman. I surely haven’t found anyone I’m gung-ho about since Sarah dropped out. But I would like so see this glaring issue answered first.

I saw an interview someone did with Huntsman and I wondered, “What’s wrong with this guy?” His answers to questions were spot on, he has the look of a president and I think he has a certain populist appeal. I wondered why he was not catching on. I did not watch any debate he was in.

Huntsman as conservative?

Is that why he worked for the Obama administration?

What’s scary is a thred that was on here a couple of days ago saying that Huntsman would not rule out a Third Party run. His daddy has enough money to finance a campaign that would get, at least, 5 percent of the vote; and, as close as this election is going to be, that could throw the election and give Obozo four more years in the White House. But, he would be the most hated man in America.

Fascinaing.

There are in fact some conservative freepers who support Huntsman. They don’t say so openly; but they do.

I’m not one of them. But I do think this is worth considering.....(maybe only for a second or two...but still, worth considering).

I have observed Huntsman from closeup here in Utah. He is ok on economics, but he did sign onto the “western governors alliance to combat climate change” - and then bragged about it. We also had to import Mitt Romney to run our 2002 Salt Lake Olympics when it was floundering in scandal. I’m pretty sure Huntsman would have as liberal a record as Romney if he were governor of a liberal state as opposed to Utah where you can govern as a conservative with no significant opposition.

will make him a frontrunner.

At the rate the 'flavor of the week' number 1's have fallen, we still have plenty of time for a couple more new #1's.

Romney just isn't getting much traction.

Gingrich is so much a repeat of 2008 and 1996, that I doubt he would get as many EV's in the General as McCain. For all the bandwagon hoopla right now, he just is not the guy who can win the General Election.

Your evaluation and Erick’s provide some thinking points but still don’t make up for Huntsman’s diplomatic time in the One’s administration. If he really had a fire in his belly for conservative principles and higher office, he would have bypassed that and launched into full-on election organizing because he knew Mittens already had an organization in place. It wasn’t like he needed the job or the $$$. I’m trying to keep an open mind, especially for newcomers with credentials like Huntsman, but he has done himself no favors with many voters.

I wish him well in NH, especially if a good showing or victory creates a roadblock for Mittens.

There is one, and only one, candidate in the GOP field for whom I cannot vote; that would be the former member of the Obama Administration, John Huntsman.

Even if Huntsman somehow manages to come in first or a close second in New Hampshire, it would position him among the top 2 or 3 contenders, but nothing is guaranteed. We will still have a contest and he will still be forced to contend with Newt or whoever pulls ahead in Iowa and then South Carolina.

Erickson is hilarious, BTW. I’m glad he has come around but there must be some serious projection going on here. Any sensible assessment, and it is really him that has run away from Jon’s conservative record and given the “middle finger” to this candidate while flip-flopping through all the others on numerous occasions.

‘erlayman’ and ‘St. Louis Conservative’ have both splendidly answered the ambassadorial questions better than I could, in this thread.

I hope Erick Erickson’s re-think on Huntsman is a sign of things to come.

It’s getting late now people. We need to get out of the shallow ‘America’s Got Talent’ phase, and get serious. I would implore all undecided, wavering, and soon-to-be homeless, voters, to re-evaluate the candidates. Look at their records, not just their words. Look at what they have done, not just what they say, or how they look. Get past media-driven labels, and make your own mind up.

I want to win. And not just to get rid of Obama. I want a talented, experienced president, who believes in conservative principles, who can actually get the job done.

Huntsman can beat Obama, Huntsman can govern as a conservative president, Huntsman just needs a second look.

Those who have already firmly decided on their candidates though: good luck! The next few months are going to be one heck of a ride!
