Ode to the Welfare State
Economic Noise/NY Daily News ^ | Nov. 4, 1949 | John W. Biggert

Should the image disappear, the text.

“Father, must I go to work“
No, my lucky son,
We’re living now on easy street
On dough from Uncle Sam.

We’ve left it up to Uncle Sam;
so don’t get exercised.
Nobody has to give a danm,
we’ve all been subsidized!”

“But if Sam treats us all so well,
and feeds us milk and honey,
Please tell me, Daddy, tell me what the hell
he’s going to use for money?”

“Don’t worry, bub, there's not a hitch
in this here noble plan;
He simply soaks the filthy rich
and helps the common man!”
“But father, won’t there come a time
when they run out of cash,
When we have left them not a dime
when things will go to smash?”

“My faith in you is shrinking,
son you nosey little brat;
You do too much thinking, boy,
to be a Democrat!”

Off topic, but I’m pinging both lists since I don’t do that much, particularly outdoors. But we survived it then, we’ll survive it now. I sincerely believe the kids get it, and they are the future. And please don’t mention the occupiers, they’re at most a few thousand in cities of millions, half of them aged hippies and derelicts.

I still sort of think they are idiots set upon by their New Left Professors to be Kabuki dancers for the aging SDSers and Weather Underground. I can almost hear these aged New Leftists now, by crackey! Watching this makes me feel young again. Let me put my mouldy hippie headband on my bald pate again.

5000 years ago Moses said, "Pack up your camel, pick up yourshovel, move your ass and I will lead you into the Promised Land."

5000 years later FDR said, "Lay down your shovel, sit on your assand light up a camel. This is the Promised Land."

My limited experience visiting a couple of these things, that is definitely the message of some of the olders.

Thanks for posting the poem. It helps to remind us that the battle we are in has been going on for a very long time.

I have used a similar poem for years, as follows:

Liberals are driven by a need to help.

Liberals believe that Rich People do not need help.

Liberals believe that Poor People do need help.

So the sooner the Liberals can make the Rich People poor,

The sooner the Liberals can help them.

I don't believe libs care about the ‘common man’ or ‘poor people’-—it is just a damned good rallying cry as there are far more ‘poor’ than well to do folk's—after all, those on the dole or with a gov’t job are going to vote for their handlers-—since I never had a chance to ‘demonstrate’ (had to work to feed my family and pay the bills)I detest libs, progressives and just about every politician alive—”poli= many-—tics=blood sucking insects”——since I am in my 90th year and spent over 5 years in service during WW2, I tried to help my USA when she needed help and will be perfectly happy to ‘get the hell out of this rotten world’ and where it is heading-—cheers to all
