"I think the problem is that the poor children, keep in mind it's 42% of poor children who live at or near poverty, it's 25% in poverty. Our audience needs to keep that in mind." Cornel West said on MSNBC this afternoon. "Poor children need more than just a $1,000 for their family, they need a war against poverty to make it a major priority in the way which we have a priority for Afghanistan, and a priority to bail out banks, and a priority to defend corporate interests when it comes to environmental issues," West said about more and new entitlements for the poor. Professor West didn't just call for another war on poverty (the first war was fought by Lyndon B. Johnson), but went on to say that the push for more entitlements "is going to be fought in the streets." West showered the Occupy movement with praise for making people aware of the issue. "It's a major question of priorities here. That's why the Occupy movement is so important because some of this is going to be fought in the streets. Civil disobedience does make a difference," he said. "Corporate greed now is an issue everybody has got to talk about. Wealth inequality. Everybody must talk about it because of the Occupy movement," Mr. West concluded. "I think brother West, I think he does make a good point," Goldie Taylor said.

Thanks!
My new tagline :-)
“even Jesus knew the poor would always be with us”
We had the war in Vietnam won in 1970; Democrats in Congress snatched defeat from the jaws of victory.
I thought we had that. Lyndon Johnson? Back in the 60's?
To them rioting is considered recreational and shopping. Sometimes they need a new flat screen or clothes.
What? What? What did he say? And what the heck does it mean?
All the worry about state laws might not be necessary. Considering that this West person is thinking we will see widespread rioting in the streets - picture city after city and state after state with these “poor” people rioting and looting.
Your standard law and order has already broken down. Now it become survival of the fittest. Several bodies littering my front yard should serve as a warning to others to stay clear.
First we need to understand the root of the problem.
To get a grasp of that understanding, ask your self this question: Why did Manufacturers go to the orient instead of to Africa?
The root to the problem of poor in America is: Work Ethic.
You got that right Brother.
I wonder what the statistics are for people who dropped out of school having kids who will drop out of school or do poorly while there.
I would say it is pretty high. Work ethic starts in school.
What poor kids need more than anything is a good role model, something their parents are not giving them. If Mom and Dad are collecting unemployment or Gubmint money chances are their kids will too.
Why did Manufacturers go to the orient instead of to Africa?
What a great point. One that I never thought of before, but so true.
There are several reason of course, work ethic being only one of them.
Civility and the absence of tribal warfare being another.
Africa is filled with natural resources that are being underused, and a population that would work cheaply, if they would work.
I visited the city of Detroit last week for the first time in my life and I am convinced that West is correct. Generations of Detroit residents have never held a job and have no skills for even the lowest skill positions that pay less than the social welfare net. At some point in the near future the money spigot is going to slow down and there will be desperation and violence on a scale we have not seen.
When it becomes apparent that Obama is going to lose and bring the Democrats down with him, and I expect that will occur next summer, there will be a lashing out within cities across the country on a scale we have never seen.
The Presidential race of 2012 will make historians forget 1968. Be prepared.
HOPE SPRINGS ETERNAL!
West will incite the malcontents to take to the streets, but you won’t see him out there with them.
Basically he’s saying “give us free shit or we’ll riot.”
Time to pull out the race(ist) riots again? That worked so well for the commies in the past./s/
Not even riots have yet managed to overturn the court system.
Better hope it rules not just the day, but the hereafter until a whole new constitution is drawn up with amnesty in it.
It’s definitely “the man’s fault”...http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&feature=endscreen&v=bavou_SEj1E
Entitlements are hard to part with...free lunches, dinners...sad but this is what West, Jesse, Sharpton have preached...hate, blame...thanks to Johnson for busting up the black family unit, too.
