Whats the controversy? Its already an option to sit and not say the American pledge after all. Is it now MANDATORY to pledge allegiance to a foreign country??

The teacher should be fired.

The teacher should be fired.

She should be sent to the country to whose allegiance she pledges.

Apparently the “teacher” and classmates are geographically challenged and politically impaired.

And to think that they will vote in three years!

Lord, have mercy.

Hmmm...if the governor of that state stepped in and denounced this travesty, he might be seen as having a clue, even as we have no hearts.

Good for Brenda Brinsdon. It’s one thing to learn the Mexican pledge for a Spanish class but quite another for a teacher to make the class stand, give the Mexican salute and recite the pledge.

The teacher should be fired.

This is ridiculous. I would not mind them learning the Mexican National Anthem for Spanish Class.........BUT not stand or anything just know the spanish words and that is it. We learned the Our Father in Spanish and I still know it after 25 years.

I have gone to races close to the Canadian Border and stood for the Canadian anthem out of respect, but no one could make me do it if I didn’t want to,I don’t know the words and I care not to sing it, and this teacher has no business making a student stand and salute for the Mexican pledge.

I add that the anthem is much different than a Pledge. No way would I pledge allegiance to any country other than The United States of America. That isn’t even American.

These things are usually part of a course teaching Spanish.

I'm sure the Leftwingtards would be up in arms if the students were asked to recite the pledge Spanish soldiers were asked to make to Generalissimo Francisco Franco!

Still, that'd be a far better way to get across to the students the Hispano-American politico-cultural artifact called "the special standing of the military" ~

“The teacher should be fired.”

I would want all the facts before I make such a sweeping statement. This young teacher should be told to cease and desist, but it is her superiors that allowed it to go on that should be disciplined...if called for.

Learning something about another’s culture when studying a foreign language is not unusual. I think the teacher’s choice, when border disputes are a big issue, was a foolish way to do this.

Now if an impartial investigation was to show the teacher was trying to indoctrinate the students into a “Mexican” mindset that ran anti-American. Then a mere dismissal is not enough...trying for treason would be more appropriate. However, I seriously doubt this is the case. Just a young dumb new Spanish teacher that waded into a political mess.

Here is where the attitude of the teacher came from:

“All of this for the Flag?”

"The teacher should be fired."

The school board should be fired and sent packing to what ever haven they choose, across the border.

Students should not be forced to recite a pledge of allegiance to Mexico, Texas or the United States..

"I do have a problem if we're making that the assignment for young people to stand up and pledge to another country," Flynn said. "It lessens the value of the pledge to the United States flag."

The real problem is that any pledge means essentially nothing in this country any more.

Honor has been devalued by the popular culture in this country and the West generally.

If you talk about personal honor to people today they look at you like you are an escapee from a mental institution.

Every year I read somewhere that cheating is rampant in high schools and colleges. There is an industry in every college town for term papers written for profit.

Just note that there is nothing in the article about anyone else in the class joining her in refusing to pledge to a foreign flag. That is most likely because her classmates do not place any importance on a pledge of allegiance or the flag of their country.

Public education has so ingrained multi-culturalism in the public mind and anti-Americanism in to the teaching of history it should surprise no one that pledging allegiance to a foreign flag or statue of the Buddha would be meaningless to a high school student.

Well with 30 million new Mexicans voting in the South West (thank you Newt) the teacher is just preparing her students for the future. US South West returned to Mexico.
