IF YOU THOUGHT POLICE BRUTALITY WAS BAD WAIT UNTIL YOU SEE WHAT CONGRESS WANTS TO DO NEXT WEEK
The police brutality against peaceful protesters in Berkeley, Davis, Oakland and elsewhere is bad enough.
But next week, Congress will vote on explicitly creating a police state.
The ACLUs Washington legislative office explains:
The Senate is gearing up for a vote on Monday or Tuesday that goes to the very heart of who we are as Americans. The Senate will be voting on a bill that will direct American military resources not at an enemy shooting at our military in a war zone, but at American citizens and other civilians far from any battlefield even people in the United States itself.
***
The Senate is going to vote on whether Congress will give this presidentand every future president the power to order the military to pick up and imprison without charge or trial civilians anywhere in the world.
***
The power is so broad that even U.S. citizens could be swept up by the military and the military could be used far from any battlefield, even within the United States itself. The worldwide indefinite detention without charge or trial provision is in S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act bill, which will be on the Senate floor on Monday.

First I`ve heard of this, get it to the Blaze and they`ll investigate it. Even try and get it to go viral like drudge.
which only means the RINOs also want it
which means... odds are good they already have the votes

If true, this is a problem. However, it is the zerohedgehog blog, which is never right.
If zerosensehedgehog said the sky was blue, I’d go out and check.
Got a better source than this?

WTF???
While S. 1235 had some very scary language in it, apparantly this one does not and applies only to foreign capture of noncombatants, but under the law of war.
Please see my post above. This is ACLU hyperbole.
LG is a disgrace to the Republican Party and South Carolina, no doubt.
Don't forget, though:
Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) also declared that the bill is needed because America is part of the battlefield. It is positively shameful that the Republicans are backing this unequivocally anti-freedom bill, while the Dems oppose it. It glaringly shows the blind spot the Republican Party has regarding a sane and decent balance between national defense (involving almost exclusively foreign nationals and immigrants) and freedom for natural-born American citizens.
I hope our 2012 nominee will take this bull by the horns.
It would be helpful if the author would identify which sections of the over 600 pages of that bill were the cause for concern. Without seeing the offending language, fruitful discussion with meaningful input is not possible.
Is there any way to narrow this fearful warning down to its true dimensions? I have only read into it a few hundred pages, and I need some help to not waste my day...
The corporate media is doing their part by completely ignoring what is taking place regardless of the fact that the proposed legislation will have unprecedented constitutional implications no matter how it turns out.
After reading this I'm not sure how hyperbolic the ACLU really is being. Nasty legislation being snuck past us.

Mostly because this is more or less a routine military funding authorization bill. I imagine it started in the House.
America IS part of the battle field. But rules of political correctness prevent us from identifying the real enemies.
Have you seen the new cable show about our wacky fun loving friends the American Muslims?
600 pages can hide a lot of demons. Started in the house but the Senate can add anything they like to it.
Spend the time.
Read the darn bill yourself.
Sec 1032 states...
"(b) Applicability to United States Citizens and Lawful Resident Aliens-
(1) UNITED STATES CITIZENS- The requirement to detain a person in military custody under this section does not extend to citizens of the United States."
What you posted is a lie.
S1235 did indeed have some frightening language. But apparantly there’s still a few freedom lovers, both Democrat and Republican, who voted it down.
