I’m thinking that Republicans really don’t want Obama defeated badly enough. We are very close to pulling defeat from the jaws of victory. Even we Conservatives seem hell-bent on destroying, or helping the media destroy, everyone of our candidates one at a time by backbiting and devouring each other over “one-issue” disagreements. Some Johnny-one-notes have “Abortion” as their issue. For many, it’s “non-Electability” or a candidate is “not a good Debater” or confuses “Elvis’ birthday” with the anniversary of his death. And for a true Conservative, Rick Santorum, he will be undone because, bless his heart, he has the “Charisma” of a foot stool. But, he just might surprise all of us coming out of Iowa.
The big one now, however, is “Immigration” for which Newt is paying a high price for having the courage to be the only candidate, from any Party, to come up with a logical, workable solution to a very complex problem that has been ignored by the last five Presidents. Now we have a monster on our hands. People criticize him but, my question is what is your solution? Deport them all? Are you willing to help car pool 11 million of them back to Mexico?
Enough already!! After the convention, we will proudly send our nominee into the General Election bloodied, beaten and wounded against a united, well funded, Democratic Socialist Party and we will get our butts handed to us on a platter and we will have four more years of President Obozo. Many Conservatives have threatened to stay home on Election Day if their guy or gal is not the nominee. But, by golly, we would have “made a statement”. Well, the only problem is, you always find people who “made a statement” in the “Lost Column”.

The factors, or causes, that led to Obama getting 69 million votes in 2008 have not improved - if anything, they've gotten worse.
There is no Republican (except Ron Paul, who doesn't really count) who is not promising the voters that the status quo can continue, when in fact it is doomed.
The voters want Euro-benefits on American levels of taxation, and they can't have that without pulling down the temple.
Which is just what they chose to do in 2008. Why are they going to change?
I have my suspicions that there are some FReepers with a bank of computers and a sign-on name for each one - madly typing comments to themselves - sorta like a phantom ‘fan club’ for their favorite candidate(s).

I have conservative friends who honestly believe that any Republican other than Ron Paul is just as bad as Obama. I have a hard time with that because I don’t believe this, and see our downfall as our ticket is split and Obama wins by a largest minority.
It has happened before, and it can happen again, and this time with a Marxist in power it could be fatal for our country.

since so many people would rather demand that i hold my nose, rather than demand a decent candidate, we'll prolly end up with more bambam and a full court press of his BS...maybe then people will actually choose a side, but my guess is that most will simply go willingly into the night...

Bush 43 ignored this problem? He spent a large amount of political capital trying to shove through his own version of a non-amnesty amnesty.
Reagan signed Simpson-Mazzoli which created the atmosphere of rank mistrust on immigration reform and amnesty by never getting around to the border security and enforcement provisions after granting amnesty.
So Newt's critics are hardly being stupid here. We have 25 years of sordid history buttressing our negative opinions of Newt's proposal. All y'all have is glaze. As in you are glazed over by your efforts to paint Newt as a viable anti-Romney after he just stepped in sh** big-time.

Now does one trust Huntsman, which I think I would at least on this particular issue, and Romney, which I wouldn't on any particular issue, are different subjects.

Hey, I’m extremly Pro-Life. I’ve worked for Pro-Life Candidates and causes since 1979. I believe that abortion doctors and advocates of abortion will have a little hotter place in hell. Proverbs 6:17 says that “hands that shed innocent blood” is one of the six things God hates. But, I realized long ago, we’ve had numerous Pro-Life Presidents and Pro-Life Congress & Senate at the same time AND ABORTION IS STILL FRIGGIN’ LEGAL IN THIS COUNTRY!!! Why wasn’t it stopped? So, while I’m Pro-Life, I can’t let that be the only issue. Rick Perry is strongly Pro-Life, but he’s dumb as a coal bucket.
By the way, you don’t win people over either by calling them names.

The Republican Party and the country have a whole lot of problems. An excess of purity in politics is not one those problems.
I have no idea what you’re talking about. Principle was abandoned almost entirely in the last election.
I agree, but we're never going to get the "perfect" candidate, at least not this cycle. Reality bites, but it is here.
