Sheriff Joe Arpaio to Endorse Rick Perry Next Week

Arlette Saenz

Sheriff Joe Arpaio, the sheriff of Maricopa County, Ariz., who calls himself “America’s Toughest Sheriff,” will endorse Texas Gov. Rick Perry next week, a source with knowledge of the endorsement told ABC News.

Arpaio espouses a hard-line stance on illegal immigration, leading raids to round up and jail illegal immigrants, and was a major proponent of the controversial Arizona immigration law. Perry has spoken with Arpaio several times over the phone since entering the presidential race.

Arpaio, a much sought after endorsement in the GOP field, plans to campaign with Perry in New Hampshire next week, the source said. The Texas governor will be in the Granite State Tuesday and Wednesday, holding three town halls and a breakfast at the Nashua Chamber of Commerce along with speaking at the New Hampshire State House...

Here are the facts about Gov. Perry & the Border

The federal government has failed in its duty to secure the border, so states like Texas have been forced to step in to fill the gap.

Gov. Perry has directed more than $400 million since 2005 to provide law enforcement the tools they need to combat border-related crime. Gov. Perry and Texas lawmakers have put more boots on the ground – including Texas Rangers and National Guard units – and improved technology to help law enforcement detect and deter criminal activity on the border.

In January 2009, Perry asked President Obama to authorize 1,000 additional National Guard troops and six helicopters to assist the state in doing Washington’s job, but he has refused.

Gov. Perry supports fencing as part of the solution, in strategic areas, particularly high-traffic and urban areas.

Gov. Perry’s border security initiatives have resulted in the seizure of 6.8 million pounds of marijuana; 82,353 pounds of cocaine; 1,835 pounds of heroin; and 7,552 pounds of methamphetamine which has an estimated value of more than $6.5 billion. In addition, officers have seized $227 million in currency and over 3,500 illegal weapons.

Gov. Perry also signed legislation preventing illegal immigrants from receiving driver’s licenses, and worked to outlaw sanctuary city policies in Texas.

Gov. Perry opposes amnesty and the federal DREAM Act. Washington must first secure the border before we can have any rational discussion about immigration reform. Once that is accomplished, then we can have a conversation about how to address immigration.

Arpaio has been perplexed that the MSM has mostly ignored his Obama eligibility posse when they are usually all over his every move trying to smear him as anti-immigrant.

With this endorsement it will be even harder for the MSM to ignore Arpaio’s posse given Perry's previous “birther” foray. I am recalling that Perry even quoted Trump's view that Obama's BC might be a forgery.

Perry has to have noted that Trump's popularity spiked upwards when he relentlessly got in Obama's face over the missing LFBC prior to April 27. What better way to boost his chances in NH than for Perry to flat-out declare Obama's LFBC to be a forgery with Arpaio whispering in his ear that the evidence is there!

Put the onus on Obama to bring forward experts willing to say on oath that the WH pdf LFBC is genuine! If there were any, we would have heard from them by now.

“We don’t exactly “fund” their tuition, they pay the same rate as Texas residents”

According to the Heritage Foundation the in state tuition program costs Texas taxpayers 80 - 100 million per year.

I hope you also realize that by offering such a program to illegals, Perry is violating federal law.

No, Perry supporters are orderly mostly and stay sane. We do not troll on those threads with non stop disruptions, as those supporters do.

I HATE this campaign. We are tearing ourselves to pieces over this pathetic bunch of loser candidates. Now SHERIFF JOE is in everyone’s sights? REALLY? Hasn’t he earned respect on this issue? Romney is a flip-flopper on amnesty. Newt is a fraud. Perry has been good on the border, godawaful with La Raza and tuition. Cain has no history at all on this issue. Bachmann cannot win a single primary. What did we expect Arpaio to do? He went with a guy he has knows for years. His friend. Perry still can’t win. But Arpaio picked Romney in 2008, and he lost big too. Does this endorsement really matter all that much?

Not one bit.

Even though the bunch isn't the best, it's still better than 2008.

According to the Heritage Foundation the in state tuition program costs Texas taxpayers 80 - 100 million per year.

Source link please.

Is the Heritage Foundation claiming the entire instate tuition program covering all enrollments cost taxpayers 100 million bucks or just the part that is tied to the children of illegal immigrants?

The children of illegal immigrant parents who meet all qualifications of the program and pay the instate rate represent 1% of total enrollment in Texas public universities.

As governor, Perry is in command of the state forces. He can put manpower on the border if he wants to. He doesn’t.

He has publicly expressed his opposition to a fence.

He essentially endorsed amnesty (as Gingrich essentially has.)

He singed in-state tuition for illegals into law.

His record seems weak on border security, despite the claims of his partisans.

How long do we have to put up with the keyword trash? People are joking, but it’s getting old.

You can spin it any way you like, but the record says otherwise.

Yes, actually, we can tell who enters the keywords. It’s not a mess we like cleaning up, either.

Just in case you’re not aware, those resources cost Texas taxpayers money. Perry can’t fund more State resources without getting it into our State budget. By our State Constitution, the budget must be balanced based on predicted tax collections for the next 2 years.

We’ve already spent $400 million of our Texas tax dollars on augmentation of your national security in the last 5 years and our State Legislature appropriated $219 million for the next two years.

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn't want to have to clean it up either, do you have to wear a Hazmat suit? :)
