Congresswoman Bachmann appears to be conveniently forgetting her own views on immigration in order to score political points. During the presidential debate at the Reagan Library on September 7, she said she won't deport all 11 million illegal immigrants here in the United States.

HARRIS: A quick 30-second rebuttal on the specific question. The fence is built, the border is under control. What do you do with 11.5 million people who are here without documents and with U.S.- born children?
BACHMANN: Well, that's right. And again, it is sequential, and it depends upon where they live, how long they have been here, if they have a criminal record. All of those things have to be taken into place.
Sounds almost identical to Newt's position that once we secure the border first, we can have a humane enforcement policy vis-a-vis some of those remaining.

Yep. Unless conservatives rally around a specific candidate then Mitt Romney will be the nominee. Let’s hope the primary process results in some consolation to prevent Romney from getting in.
I'm curious. Can you name a current conservative candidate for the Republican nomination who shares your views on "amnesty"?
And trust me, I'm a conservative. But I don't think I want to expand the police presence by the factor of 10 to 100 that it would take to carry out a "deport them all" plan.
No matter what you think, these people are not going to volunteer to go back to Mexico. Not going to happen. You will have to find them, arrest them and ship them back. By the millions. Good luck with that.
... NOBODY! LOL!
Here on FR we run’em all through the meat grinder and they come out looking like sausage.
LOL, Newt is not calling for exceptions, Newt is flashing a red herring. Someone here twenty five years would have been made legal under Reagan. As usual Newt is full of BS. And is trying to reward people that came here after he voted and committed to ending it.
FR is no place to push amnesty. Perhaps DU would better suit you.
FR is no place to push amnesty; it is not a conservative position.
So, why rally around the Anti-Mitt candidate who is the most like Mitt? That would be Newt.
You have no law enforcement unless you enforce the law.
How sure are you that approach will work?
I don't think there is any chance that it would. They will leave if they think they would better off in Mexico than they would be in the U.S. Cut off their welfare, their free medical at the emergency rooms and they are still going to feel that they are better off in the U.S. They mostly have jobs, some own their own homes, most have been here for many years and are settled in. I'm not saying that's a good thing but it's the facts of the matter.
You are dreaming if you think you can get half of Los Angeles to volunteer to go back to Mexico. It's just a dream. It will never be reality.
I’ve wondered about this idea....
It’s one thing to self-deport from Alabama to another state. But to self-deport to Mexico may be another story.
As bad as Newt’s record on amnesties stretching all the way back to the 1980s is there’s way more to it than that. When I see Bachmann sitting on the couch with algore and doing tours with Jesse Jackson then I might come to a different opinion.
Nice words. But it ignores the practicality of enforcing some laws.
The legislature could pass a law saying that we couldn't grow lemon trees in our backyard (environmental hazard). Is that enforceable? How about marijuana? Same deal. We have all kinds of laws that are not enforced because they are inherently unenforceable.
So let's hear your plan. If removing millions of illegals is practical tell us how to do it. They are not going to leave voluntarily. They are going to go kicking and screaming. Tell how to do it.
The closest Bachmann has come to doing that was supporting ethanol subsidies in the past. I don’t like it but then again I’m not sitting around whining about how nobody is perfect in an attempt to get people to support even worse.
If we can cut off the benefits and get 30% to leave, we will be 30% better off.
The ones that want to try, is the one I will vote for, not lip service try, and that includes all illegals not just Latinos. I am not any ones child support service, and the illegals need to know and understand that. So if we leave anyone that should be the first test, do you have receipts for the hospital bills on those kids. Can you speak and read English, the military is open for training, requires six years, no exemptions.
You’ve clearly capitulated and I really see no point in wasting further time with you.
Cut off the welfare, jobs and benefits and they will self-deport.Where would they go? And more importantly, why would they go there? Even without all of the supposed benefits they would still be better off staying here, especially if they have legal children and grandchildren here.
