Debate Flashback: When Bachmann Supported A Non-Deportation Approach To Illegal Immigration
Townhall ^ | 11/25/2011 | Greg Hengler

Congresswoman Bachmann appears to be conveniently forgetting her own views on immigration in order to score political points. During the presidential debate at the Reagan Library on September 7, she said she won't deport all 11 million illegal immigrants here in the United States.

[Full transcript]

HARRIS: A quick 30-second rebuttal on the specific question. The fence is built, the border is under control. What do you do with 11.5 million people who are here without documents and with U.S.- born children?

BACHMANN: Well, that's right. And again, it is sequential, and it depends upon where they live, how long they have been here, if they have a criminal record. All of those things have to be taken into place.

Sounds almost identical to Newt's position that once we secure the border first, we can have a humane enforcement policy vis-a-vis some of those remaining.

Poor little newtie. Rush did say Tuesday that Bachmann was a fine conservative. As was Cain and Santorium, he did leave, newtie and his brothers Willard and Perry off the list. Maybe you can call and cry at him about it while you are on that down elevator..

They will be leaving in mass while the fence is getting built.

Just off hand why would they do that? I wouldn't.

What a stupid post. So Bachmann saying she can’t deport all 11.5 million (there are far more) illegals is now equal to Newt’s lifelong love of amnesty? How pathetic can NewtBots get?

You all realize that there is no perfect candidate on that stage? They all have warts. At the end of the day the chosen candidate will be a compromise.

Oh that's your spin now? You sure worried about imperfections when crapping over other candidates. Now your boy genius Newt has a lead and it's "let's not be too picky".

You are laughably transparent along with 3 or 4 others around here.

I've been critical of all the candidates - to include Newt. I often described the entire GOP field as a huge crap sandwich. I have argued that at the end of the day your only choice is going to be chewing that sandwich with a smile.

I will continue to be critical of any and all of the candidates when I find it warranted.

Cut off the welfare, jobs and benefits and they will self-deport.

We cut off their jobs, we cut off all the support, some illegals wants medical help we stop the bleeding and put them on a med evac to their home country, with a bill for services rendered. After we take their finger prints and DNA, and check for criminal background.

Reagan said amnesty was one of his biggest mistakes.

Conveniently ommitted from the pro-illegal posts on the subject

Dood

So who exactly is it that you support. Every candidate has said that they will not deport them all ... so I wanna know, who is this magical mystery candidate that you support.

I think we all know that there are some who will get amnesty but the real question becomes again, Who do you trust to enforce the law?

Why the honorable Eric Holder of course.

Well maybe not. The fact is that I don't think current law is enforceable. To many violators of the law and not enough cops. And we all know there is zero support from the Federal Government to actually enforce the law. But even if the Federal environment could be changed I just don't see where true enforcement (deport them all) is even close to being practical.

I'll tell you how to prove that to yourself. Just walk around Los Angeles some time and tell me how you are going to deport almost everyone you see on the streets.

"They will be leaving in mass while the fence is getting built."

Assuming you mean en masse, you should be boosting Newt! That is his #1 of ten solutions;

SOLUTIONS

1. Control the border.

The United States must control its border. It is a national security imperative.

Every nation has the right to control its border. Historically, every country that has been determined to control their border has been able to do so.

Controlling the border is a matter of resources and will. As Americans, we can accomplish unimaginable feats when we have the resources and the will. The United States won World War II in 3 years and 8 months. In the 44 months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the United States mobilized its resources to defeat Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany, and Imperial Japan.

Unfortunately, we haven’t brought any sense of urgency to controlling our border – even as a drug-fueled civil war now rages in Mexico.

In October 1986, Ronald Reagan wrote in his diary that he was signing the Simpson-Mazzoli immigration reform bill because it was “high time we regained control of our borders & this bill will do this."

Today, a quarter century later, we still have not achieved President Reagan’s goal and expectation.

This bill will waive every obstacle to controlling the border and would shift resources to achieve virtually 100% control by January 1, 2014. If necessary, we would move one-half of the 23,000 Washington-area Department of Homeland Security bureaucrats to the Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona borders.

A border control strategy must be responsive to the unique threats that exist at different parts of the frontier. This strategy must include round-the-clock drone flights to monitor activity, multi-layer, strategic fencing in urban areas, and vastly improved communication between state and federal authorities.

They do not leave they risk what they have, most will take the option of saving what they can and not get a arrest record. Thousands departed ok, when they changed their laws and thousands will leave Alabama, just turn up the heat.

just off hand why do you amnesty supporters try and claim you are conservatives.

So you don’t like Newt. That’s easy to say, but who is your preferred candidate, the guy who you totally agree with?

Wake up and get off the perfection kick

Just hammering employers wouldn’t work, imho. We’d have to cut off all bennies to include medical.

good point... even Herman Cain(whom I really like) won’t be kicking out a grandmother who came here illegally(with her parents 40 years ago) when she was a teenager to pick fruit and since has raised her kids and grandkids to love and revere this country..

Cain has two choices.. if he allows her to stay in any scenario he’s for amnesty

if he sends in the police to kick her out he’s going to be considered by most people in this country to be a mean evil right winger who pretends to be Christian

I’m as right wing as they come and I wouldn’t kick her out.. don’t get me wrong there are loads of illegals whom I would toss out without hesitation and I certainly wouldn’t be giving illegals free education but it’s cruel and foolish to not make some exceptions which is what Gingrich is saying
