Southfield, Mich. As other Republican candidates have stumbled their way toward the presidential primaries, Mitt Romney has put together what would seem to be all the elements of a winning campaign: an effective staff, a robust treasury and smooth, knowledgeable performances both in debates and on the trail.
But for months, the threshold of support for the former Massachusetts governor hasn't inched above a quarter of Republican voters in national polls. For many GOP voters in early primary states, hesitation about Romney comes back to one thing: their perception that he has routinely molded his views to suit the political mood, with ambition his overriding principle.
"He's not a person we could trust to lead our country," said Angela Cesar, a 41-year-old Republican from Ypsilanti, Mich., who said Romney had changed his position on too many issues.
(snip)
"The more I listen to him, the more he just kind of flip-flops and doesn't know where he stands on anything."

Why did it cut off right where you would expect a qualifier or a “but” ???
From reading the comments he apparently he went on to say...
"But they should not be given a special pathway, a special guarantee that all of them get to stay here for the rest of their lives merely by virtue of having come here illegally, and that, I think, is the great flaw in the final bill that came forward from the Senate."
The second sentence does not change the intended meaning of the first.
My own view is, that those people that are in this country, that have come here illegally, the 12 million or so, should be able to sign up for permanent residency or citizenship.
Yup. Trust is a very personal thing. People have a lifetime of views and human nature is predictable. Romney’s fatal handicap is he comes across as someone who is not believable. And if I don’t believe someone, it doesn’t matter what they have to tell me.
I can’t support Romney because he favors amnesty and Gingrich is cut out of the same cloth.
I cross any one off my list any one who isn’t going to secure our borders. A pity Joe Arpaio is running for President. He gets it!

Romney faces trust deficit? BS
I proudly place my full faith and trust in Mitt Romney to screw over Conservatives (and by extension, the nation) every chance he gets.
I know I am far from alone in this.
He's running for the highest office of the land, which is at the federal level. If he wants to be a gun grabbing socialist, maybe he should run for governor of some liberal state again. I don't think it's so much to ask that our possible Republican nominee have actual conservative principles.
I could imagine a wimp like Romney as President with a liberal house & senate. They'd get him to go along with ANY liberal position with very little pressure. He stands for nothing.
This is from the L.A. Times.
Few “news” organizations offer print with an agenda like the L.A.Times does.
Calling it a rag is a true understatement.
Hey Mitt, piss off there ya flip flopping turd.
NO ROMNEY NO WAY...
I don’t mistrust Mitt Romney,quite the opposite.
I trust Mitt Romney to continue with Romney-Obamacare, I trust him to be as liberal as Obama, perhaps with a few less vacations.
Romney is almost as bad as Obama, except he is Mormon and Obama is Muslim. I have to admit that being Mormon is a bit better.
Romney is on the wrong side of the things that matter most. Someone else needs to get the nomination.
From an idiot like Patty Murray or, a comedian like Al Franken to socialists like Bernie Sanders or Jim McDermott, liberals will unite and rally to defeat any republican.
Conservatives will not bridge that gap.
Mitt changes his mind more often than I change my under ware.
