The telegenic Texan took two steps forward sitting in the “center chair” on Fox Monday evening. One step backward too alas, but more about that in a bit.
Gov Perry was relaxed and alert as he fielded a variety of questions. He smartly used his answers to remind conservatives why they should consider him.
This is a man who is a quick study and a formidable politician. Instead of just Texas this and Texas that he pointed out that the Lone Star state all by its lonesome is the 13th largest economy in the world. A nice way to pivot into what will be the big issue in 2012 without sounding provincial.
Zero-based foreign aid will not only warm conservative innards, it will play well as part of the spending argument. And he noted the UN can expect a zero-budget starting point. Long overdue and just hearing it made me smile. Asked about Pakistan’s aid Perry demonstrated…gasp..nuance. He noted Pakistan is a difficult problem not the least because it has nukes. Nice answer.
Perry showed another vote-winning quality when he took ownership of his infamous “no heart” comment regarding those who disagree with in-state tuition for illegals in Texas. That comment, he said, was just wrong; and added that his wife gave him hell for it after the debate. But he didn’t leave it there. He promised the southern border will be closed period a year after he takes office should he be elected. A panel member asked how this would affect the GOP’s Hispanic vote. Perry’s reply was politically astute to say the least. The Hispanics in this country are concerned like the rest of us with jobs and the economy. Closing the border, he added, will be understood as a matter of national security.

Other than the fact that she endorsed Perry well after the Texas Dream act was on the books?
One would think that Palin fans would have a “heart” for Perry.

You attacked me on the local board when I was doing research on some nasty people who were blogging not so nice things about Sarah and another site that was writing some nasty things about Palin supporters on Free Republic. I found some of the authors and owners of one of the sites and provided info to an investigator too, by the way, with the intent it would help Sarah know who was behind some of the stuff. I have always posted nice things about Sarah Palin and still think she is a great person with outstanding political insight. When you came on the local board and started saying I was being nasty to Sarah Palin, that was just plain silly since I had been working for her! That’s probably why the rest of them were probably as disturbed as I was with what you were saying.
Just as Cringing CN here has a difference of opinion with me, he likes Cain and Newt, I like Perry, I really, really appreciate his handling of his posts on FR. I really don’t mind true differences based on intelligent thought and insight.
Once again though, I’m asking you to just leave me alone. I don’t go on most of the threads you would go on anyway, so there is plenty of room for us both here. And perhaps someday we’ll even be on the same side of something.
Let us all not forget how Texas did a superb job with all of the evacuees
from Katrina, the cost of all of this to Texas had to be astronomical.
I will also bet a whole lot of these folks did not return back to LA creating
another huge cost to Texas. I am still a Cain supporter but I would take
Perry in a heart beat!!!! I am personally sick to death of smooth debaters

I didn’t know much about Rick Perry and was willing to take a look at him. He has shown himself to be a walking gaffe machine as well as not being very bright. In a couple of months his campaign will die in the snow of New Hampshire and he can then return to Texas and continue his pandering to illegals. Good riddance.

I was hurrying when I was online earlier and don't think I really was able to respond to your comment here. I wanted to let you know I was only referring to the previous "spelling" corrections and it appears my error in not using the shift button when I wrote Americano / americano.
If I offended you by not capitalizing Americano, please know it was not intentional. It wasn't my intention to belittle any ethnicity and was simply a typing error.
I also understand you were not challenging any information here, and I do believe what you described, telling someone if you think they are posting something outright incorrect, is a good thing to do. No problem with that at All! (grin)

I hate to bother you with another post, but I just had to go and find where I missed the capital you mentioned. I really thought that would be something I would have noticed.
The ONLY place I had “Americano” written as “americano” was when I copied and pasted an excerpt (in its originality) from Newt’s Hispanic Community website! I never thought to check Newt’s grammar, punctuation, and capitalization! LOL
But still, as I said, if it offended you because of race or ethnicity, please accept my apologies. I meant nothing by having that word posted with a small “a”.
Also, in looking down the thread to find that specific post, I noticed shield had already sent the same video to you. I had not realized that and would not have sent the same one had I noticed his/her post.
I don’t think he is “brainless”. I believe he is trying to make a point to those here who took such a wrath-filled acceptance of electrocuting human beings. From what I can tell, he supports Newt and likes and appreciates Newt’s stand on immigration. Plus his ethnic sensitivity is quite clear as well, so I can’t think he was doing anything other than making a simple joke to make a point.
