The telegenic Texan took two steps forward sitting in the center chair on Fox Monday evening. One step backward too alas, but more about that in a bit.
Gov Perry was relaxed and alert as he fielded a variety of questions. He smartly used his answers to remind conservatives why they should consider him.
This is a man who is a quick study and a formidable politician. Instead of just Texas this and Texas that he pointed out that the Lone Star state all by its lonesome is the 13th largest economy in the world. A nice way to pivot into what will be the big issue in 2012 without sounding provincial.
Zero-based foreign aid will not only warm conservative innards, it will play well as part of the spending argument. And he noted the UN can expect a zero-budget starting point. Long overdue and just hearing it made me smile. Asked about Pakistans aid Perry demonstrated gasp..nuance. He noted Pakistan is a difficult problem not the least because it has nukes. Nice answer.
Perry showed another vote-winning quality when he took ownership of his infamous no heart comment regarding those who disagree with in-state tuition for illegals in Texas. That comment, he said, was just wrong; and added that his wife gave him hell for it after the debate. But he didnt leave it there. He promised the southern border will be closed period a year after he takes office should he be elected. A panel member asked how this would affect the GOPs Hispanic vote. Perrys reply was politically astute to say the least. The Hispanics in this country are concerned like the rest of us with jobs and the economy. Closing the border, he added, will be understood as a matter of national security.

Political Correctness is killing this country.
If you recall the saga of the Minutemen, PC powers wrung their hands. *Oh Dear! we can’t have ordinary citizens taking the law into their hands! Someone could be hurt!*
Of course this was all BS. No one was hurt, and no human rights were violated.
Bush destroyed his Presidential effectiveness that day.
The problem is not Political Correctness itself.
The real problem is that those whose job it is, to fight Political Correctness (Republicans) are spineless and have simply surrendered all validity to debate the topic, to the left.
Which of course, is why nobody votes for them anymore.
They’re quitters.
Nobody votes for a quitter. Take a stand Republicans.
In fact, take EVERY stand. Every single day.
That's a straight-up ad hominem attack, and you ought to be ashamed for making it.
If you're incapable of defending your candidate, attacking those who disagree with his record will only lose him even more points.
Debate the topic, knock off the nonsense.
OK, I was ready to go out the door but noticed you were questioning the legitimacy of some things. If his stance on illegal immigration is part of that, this might help. It’s from Newt himself.
Posted here is a video from The Americano Association, a group organized in 2010 by Newt Gingrich to bring together Hispanics throughout the country. (His website by that same name has articles in both English and Spanish, by the way, and notes that it is designed to bring Hispanics, legal and illegal, English speaking and Spanish-only-speaking alike, together in unity.)
The conference at the link I’m posting is Newt as a keynote speaking at the opening of his new organization.
Highlights from Newt:
1.) NO ONE will be deported during his Presidential terms,
2.) He will make it easier and cheaper for non-citizen Hispanics to purchase homes and properties and to start businesses, and
3.) It is his Presidential goal then to have ALL Hispanics living in America now be actual U.S. Citizens within 5 to 10 years after the start of his Presidency.
I don’t know how that works in with his starting out with legal residency status provided by a governing board like he described the other night, but at least in 2010, this is what he stated as his Presidential goal.
You’ll need to watch his speech to see those items (and more).

And here’s info on Gingrich’s Hispanic website too:
http://theamericano.com/about-us/
Why the name, The Americano?
Our site is inclusive of all americanos that have come to live to the United States. Whether you are first, second, third or fourth generation Hispanic- or whether you speak English or Spanish or both- our content is catered to what unites us all which is our American Hispanic Heritage.
The Americano is a company of Gingrich Communications.
It also shows Newt’s picture and bio as the founder.
shield,
I wanted to thank you for the article!
I do believe Perry is working hard, showing a real dedication, and his dedication and hard work are paying off. Some polls are now showing him in double digits again... not high double digits, but I’ll take 11% and 12% over that 4 and 6 he had for a couple of weeks a while back!
He’s on his way back, and I for one am very excited because I want a trustworthy and true conservative like Rick Perry in our White House!
Start your sledgehammer, Governor Perry! You’re going to Washington D.C.!
Where are people getting the idea that I am Mr. Cain’s campaign manager?
I think we make a pretty good stand against PC BS.
We certainly do a better job than Liberals whose standards are based on shifting sands.
The site capitalizes “Americano”.
Why don’t you?
I don’t CARE what you think, Windflier.
There was no one disagreeing with any different opinions there. MrEdd never gives opinions from what I’ve seen and only acts childish and immature which is exactly what he was doing there... acting childish and immature.
Oh well, maybe I DO disagree with acting childish and immature.
Plus... You’ve been FAR worse than I have EVER been.
AND... so everyone here will know, you went on the Texas local board and started your nauseous junk like this to me there too and went to the point where the the people there even had to tell you to go away.
You don’t bother me. You don’t make me feel bad. You don’t make me feel anything. I don’t care about you nor do I care what what you think, and as far as I’m concern, you can stay away from me, not just on the Texas board but here as well.
Perry refuses to[sic] acknoledge this fact---keeps making up more excuses for his monumental failures.
At least two of the most savage drug cartels are operating in Texas. In Austin, not far from Perry in the state capitol, the savage Los Zetas have established a drug distribution stronghold----without interference from Texas L/E.
That is absolute bunk. You spout that off without any research. As Part of Operation Wrangler Governor Perry order 600 additional National Guardsmen to the border with an an operational cost of $134 million per year of which Texas paid $100 million and Arizona paid $34 million costing the tax payer of TEXAS $400 million and the tax payers of ARIZONA $136 million. The border operations were a resounding success in interdiction of drugs and illegal immigrants.
Jumping on the success of operation Wrangler Obama announced that he was sending another 1200 Guard troops to the border. They never came. Brewer filed suit against the Government to no avail. Congress finally acted authorizing an emergency $600 Million emergency bill to hire 1000 BP agents and 250 Customs agents and 2 surveillance aircraft to patrol the border. Using that as an excuse Obama order the National Guard Troops out. Those agents were never hired and we're still waiting for the aircraft. Gov. Perry has attempted over and over to get answers from Obama including trying to personally hand him a letter that he refused to accept.
Get your facts correct. Larry.
As for the "heartless" comment, the Supreme Court forces the State of Texas to educate the illegal aliens in our state at the cost of the Texas tax payers aprox. $6,563 per student per year (not including feeding and providing medical care) for 13 years. At the end of that period you expect the Texas tax payers to throw that investment away? Maybe that is what he meant about being heartless, it is a heartless move to the Texas tax payers. We should at least be afforded the chance to get something in return for the investment we are forced to make.
Well I should have with you especially.
I see you correct people all the time here.
I knew someone else like that growing up, and even as a child, I realized it was rude and an attempt to feel better by making others feel bad.
Sorry i didn’t capitalizkzkze it for yow.
Feel better?
Nice!!!
Well, at least the feeling's mutual.
There was no one disagreeing with any different opinions there. MrEdd never gives opinions from what Ive seen and only acts childish and immature which is exactly what he was doing there... acting childish and immature.
That's not true. Mr Edd most definitely expressed an opinion in the post you replied to. I even double checked before commenting to you, just to make sure that he hadn't said something that deserved such a nasty response. He hadn't.
AND... so everyone here will know, you went on the Texas local board and started your nauseous junk like this to me there too and went to the point where the the people there even had to tell you to go away.
Nauseous junk? Oh yes. I remember that. I had the nerve to ask you to tone down the negative attacks against Palin supporters, and you blew a gasket, posting something like ten thousand angry words in response. Then a couple of your homies joined in on the gang bang. That was a real classy exchange.
You dont bother me. You dont make me feel bad. You dont make me feel anything. I dont care about you nor do I care what what you think
You know, the moonbat progressives in my family talk to me the same way when I call them on their bs. Are you also gonna bark at the Mod for telling you to knock it off?
Grow a hide, Cas.
But actually, you are correct that I should have made it a capital if I did not. I didn’t notice it and do make mistakes.
Did you get to hear the video? Sorry I had to post the entire conference video. I wouldn’t know how to cut videos already online, but I do believe his keynote speech is near the beginning at least. You can probably just quick run it through and find his speech fairly quickly.
Meh.
I stand for what I believe in.
If someone posts something contrary to what I believe in, and I feel strongly about it, I take issue.
I do not “correct” FReepers. This is not a spelling nazi competition.
If you are just plain wrong, I’ll say so.
