NEW YORK A doctoral candidate in Yale University's American Studies Program is teaching a course in "nightlife culture" that includes DJ lecturers, a field trip to New York nightlife hot spots Le Bain and the Boom Boom Room and a discussion titled "Looks, Doors and Guest Lists: Getting Past the Velvet Rope."

If you have to take a class on how to get into a club, you have no business in a club.
$47,000 a year
Decadence on display.
Many universities employ those who are otherwise pretty much useless to society.
"Those who can't do--teach" is truer than it should be.
And Steve Jobs and others have complained there weren’t enough US students trained to fill his jobs.
Mush....we have turned to mush.
Wonder how much of the cost for this brilliant course of study will cost the American taxpayer when the students protest that they can’t find jobs and demand a bailout that the rats will be happy to provide in return for votes?
I would take any 4 people from this site, go across the country and cut 25% of the college courses. The we can redo the budget and see how bad off we really are.
Yale is just producing another crop of OWS protestors.Worthless degrees given out by worthless high-priced universities run by worthless leftist professors who are working day and night to transform the United States of America into a worthless, piece of crap domain.
Occupy Yale!
It takes upbringing to instill the character to fight this natural urge (and it is natural. Observe the average 2 year old. That's humanity.) You have to TEACH young humans not to be this way. We aren't teaching them. Well, conservatives are, but liberals aren't.
Well said!
I also do not know if a random parade of drunks, druggies, predators and fools counts as a culture.
Good use of taxpayer funded Pell Grants. /s
Viewed from the right it appears as a total waste.
Viewed from the left it appears as the ultimate meal ticket, a government job!
the problem: easy gov’t credit for student loans.
This is the Ivory Tower variation on the derivatives debacle, and the bill is coming due.
The solution: no student loans for non-tech/biz/science majors.
Ah, the schools don’t like it? OK..! Then they CO-SIGN the loans, and student debt for such majors should be dischargeable via bankruptcy, just like real estate and ANYTHING ELSE.
No special rules for Universities.
“Your name’s not down, you’re not comin’ in.”
The premise for college is that young people go there to improve themselves and make more money later. This fails that test on both grounds; they’re worse off, and they’ll make LESS later.
Who wins? Universities.
Such major are conjured up simply to provide a demand for profs whose skills aren’t marketable in the private sector.
Medications and ladders have warnings labels for the buyer. Securities have loads of warnings for the buyer also.
Why are there no warnings AT ALL for such majors to impressionable young people with access to easy credit..?
THIS IS PREDATION AND FRAUD.
“What list?”
“The DJ’s list.”
“Miss Thing!
[snap!]
There is no guest list tonight!”
In a couple of years these same morons will be crying about owing hundreds of thousands of dollars in student loans and nobody will give them a job.
