WASHINGTON Texas Gov. Rick Perry vowed to completely secure the U.S.-Mexican border within 12 months of being inaugurated president during a GOP presidential debate Tuesday that showcased the emergence of former House Speaker Newt Gingrich as the go-to alternative to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.
In a debate focused on national security, Perry was quickest to the count on border issues, saying he would complete strategic fencing along the 1,969-mile U.S.-Mexican border, add boots on the ground and aviation assets such as Predator surveillance aircraft to intercept potential Iranian-backed terrorists crossing into the United States from Mexico as well as to stem the northbound flow of undocumented immigrants and illegal drugs.
The three-term Texas governor, clearly comfortable on the topic during his eighth nationally televised debate, said he would work with Mexico to achieve a new level of security and would consider sanctions against Mexican banks that handle the illicit proceeds of multibillion dollar drug cartels.
All of those together can make that country (Mexico) substantially more secure and our border secure, Perry declared. As president of the United States, Ill promise you one thing that within 12 months that border will be shut down and it will be secure.

Perry and Bachmann also briefly dueled over continuing U.S. aid to Pakistan, an Islamic nation of 150 million people with a stockpile of nuclear weapons. Perry reiterated his pledge to zero out annual foreign aid to all countries including Pakistan.
Theyve showed us time after time that they cant be trusted, said Perry, in an elliptical reference to Pakistani authorities knowingly or unknowingly providing haven to bin Laden. Until Pakistan clearly shows that they have Americas best interests in mind, I would not send them one penny.

And Afghanistan, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Germany, Bosnia,
South Korea ARE?
OUR troops need to be on OUR border.
MX is fighting the Cartels, that is driving them NORTH, not to mention the people making a run for the border to get out of the line of fire.
SHEESH
MEXICO IS OUR PROBLEM.
And MAYBE it’s time for AMERICAN DRUGGIES to be ostracized for endangering National Security. But hey REHAB is BIG BUSINESS.
Think “illegal immigration and student tuition”. It’s a play on words.
Gov. Perry was in good form last night. He displayed a calm confidence that is a hallmark of effective leadership.
He’s hitting his stride and he’ll be a major factor from here on out, IMO. Gig ‘Em Rick!!!
Stop eating the red herring, marty.
Two different fruits.
I had no idea we were reorganizing and revamping the Afghani, Iragi, Egyptian, Libyan, German, Bosnian, and S. Korean government’s. Imagine that.
The US? Make Mexico more secure? Thats not our problem, or our friggin job. Pick a lane, Perry.
==========================================
It's way past time for vote-crazed politicans like Perry to come clean and acknowledge what we all know-----illegals violate our borders for one reason----to pocket all the US benefits they can get their greedy hands on, and to become a "voting bloc" to pressure pols for foreign aid and other give aways to their homelands.
Perry has NEVER questioned their loyalties........and the threat this poses to US ntl security.

WHAT IS THE MERIDA INITIATIVE? Another tax-financed flop.
The US Congress gave Mexico millions of dollars to "help fight the war on drugs."
“If two neighboring countries can work in conjunction...”
The key word here is “If”. “If” can only happen when two governments are first capable of working other. Mexico’s entire infrastructure is corrupt. It’s flawed. You can’t work with a flawed and corrupt system, casinva. It doesn’t work.
org.whodat,
Either you are a lunatic or didn’t even look to see who “the poster” was if you EVER thought I have supported or even WOULD support amnesty. I have NEVER, NEVER EVER written about amnesty nor have I ever supported amnesty, nor have I ever supported anyone who supports amnesty. I am for border security. I am for border protection. I am for homeland security. I am for proper and legal immigration procedures.
Quite frankly, I started laughing when I saw what you posted. It really did look pretty brainless on you personally, and the more we get to see your ignorant behavior, the more we all know just HOW ignorant you are.
Well perhaps there is a moron in the room that doesn't realize the Constitution lists that as the federal government's job.
"What?", you say... You didn't know that? Well then, what more can I say?
Don’t forget how much more dangerous our current administration made our borders with their Gun running/ fast and furious horror!
Those of us living in TX are in a lot more danger from the drug cartels now. Since the present administration actually armed a lot of these goons, we are certainly living in a very dangerous world these days.
And no—regardless of what you may have heard, GWB did not “do the same thing”.
I never leave my house unarmed. today.................
Hey, what a concept. Offer criminals and lawbreakers an education at a great rate. What a concept! But wait!, there’s more. Not only will your illegal be able to pursue a higher education, but they’ll be able to worm their way into becoming LEGAL citizens as well.
America. The gift that keeps on giving....at tax payer expense
Governor Rick Perry never called you heartless.

Did too
Called me heartless also...
Hes a mean one...
Last night’s debate showed Perry not only has the facts but that he also has a very sensible understanding of what to do with those facts. He was able to provide light on what to do and why, and he articulated ways to mobilize our country so that our protection would be first and foremost considered. Some wimpier people may not be comfortable that Perry IS focusing on America’s best interest as he is to the extent that he is not pandering to other countries, but the last strong leader I saw with that kind of commitment to being strong and sticking with principles was Ronald Reagan, and he served us quite well in that capacity.
Hey org, you think Perry called you heartless. Well, maybe you are, I don’t know.
I do know this, you’re definitely thoughtless, often clueless, and mostly mindless.
Already responded.
Well you know what they say...
Takes one to know one!
Our borders, not Mexico’s security, Albert.
DC insiders laugh when we peasants b***tch about open borders. Its all a big joke.... for DC people, life is always good with no recessions ever, where insider trading and earmarks makes them all rich.
Perry now looks like a xenophobe next to Speaker Newt....
