Mitt Romney played the Israeli card in a Republican foreign policy debate and promised Israel would be the first country he will visit if elected.
"We have a president who pursued an agenda of saying we're going to be friendly to our foes and we're going to be disrespectful to our friends," Romney said in a CNN debate Tuesday night featuring GOP presidential hopefuls.
President Barack Obama visited Israel during his election campaign, including a trip to the Western Wall, which in his view is not a legitimate part of Israel's soversignty. He is expected to visit Israel next year as the November presidential election nears.
"The right course for Israel is to care about Israel, Romney said. However, he did not pledge to move the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a pledge made by virtually every presidential candidate since the 1990s except for President Obama. No president has carried out his promise.
All of the Republican candidates in the debate spared no words for their support of Israel, except for Texas Congressman Ron Paul. He surprised everyone by commenting that if Israel wants to attack Iran, It is their business, but they must suffer the consequences. .....

...starting to sound like Dumbo...juvenal.
Absolutely a token gesture. Let’s find out who has already been to Israel to show support this year. I can name one. Herman Cain did not wait around to see if he were elected, he was the only candidate who went to Becks event in August.

Last refuge of a scoundrel.
Never noticed it before, but last night I heard a lot of stuttering from Romney. When he gets animated, it’s like somebody put the wrong grade of fuel in him.
By the way, if you just listen rather than watch, Huntsman sounds very much like Romney, only a slightly higher range. Romney’s voice with a little helium.
And from both you can easily hear floundering and insincerity.

Visiting isn’t supporting.
O look it is PANDER PANDY at his slimy best.
So He;s going to take a junket. He could go right now. Who cares?
He’s right up front about the travel perks of the Oval Office now isn’t he?
Let’s make a deal. How ‘bout you drop out of the race and you can visit ‘em anytime you want?
No Ron Paul doesn't sound better than Mitt Romney or anyone else in the race on the issue of Israel. Paul would basically abandon Israel entirely, Romney wouldn't. Yes Mitt is playing politics with the issue, but with Romney the worst case scenario is nothing changes with the relationship between the US and Israel. With Paul, assistance to the Israel would be on the chopping block immediately and he'd essentially abandon our ally. When it comes right down to it, Paul is actually worse than Obama on foreign and defense policy.
Romney is a joke. He is the worst of the worst
He’s going to go lots of places—including Israel—as Newt’s VP.
In this instance, like a broken clock, he’s accidentally better for the moment. Eliminating aid would be a plus in my book. It does us little good and costs you too much.
But that’s not what I mean. He just said that it is not the US’ affair if Israel should attack Iran. That’s still not good, becausee without carrier groups and navy pilots we can’t pull it off.
But it’s a whole lot better than what the present administration is doing and Romney is likely to continue: stringing us along and trying to make our decisions for us, and delaying any action until it’s too late.
Neither of them are any good, really. I’d rather hear: We’ve already scrambled the USS Ronald Reagan and Abraham Lincoln to the Persian Gulf. They’ll pick up your guys on the way, have them assembled in Eilat within a week.
Just no. You are calling for the elimination of aid to Israel which is a dramatic departure from current policy and a decidedly anti-Israel policy shift. Most of that aid is in the form of military assistance and it is arguable that Israel would have no chance of attacking the Iranian nuclear installations without that aid in the first place. It is not costing us too much and doing us too little good. In the grand scheme of things it costs us very little and serves to make our only solid ally in the region much stronger militarily.
But its a whole lot better than what the present administration is doing and Romney is likely to continue: stringing us along and trying to make our decisions for us, and delaying any action until its too late.
That's really not what he said. For the most party Romney's position is the boiler plate Republican position, NOT the current Obama policy. Romney claims he would take the Iranian nuclear threat much more seriously and while he isn't advocating a military attack, it is pretty clear he would be more sympathetic to Israel than the current administration would be. Romney is a flip flopping RINO, but there is no indication he would be weak on Israel.

That you may ultimately hear from any of the Republican candidates at some point with the exception of Ron Paul.
Ron Paul is a kook on foreign policy and defense issues. He is in NO way better than any of the other Republican candidates in this area.
So what exactly is the big payoff for the voters, the country, if/when he does arrive in Israel on January 20, 2012 as leader of the free world? I don’t know what he presumes is the political enticement of making such a pointless gesture.
I’ll take the Haagen Dazs vanilla, milk chocolate ice cream bar every time.
