Newt Gingrich won't appear on Missouri ballot
Chicago Tribune ^ | 11-22-11 | Paul West

*snip*

The former House speaker, who is putting a campaign organization together on the fly, failed to qualify for the contest in the Show Me State.

According to the Missouri Secretary of State's office, Gingrich did not file the necessary papers as of Tuesday's 5 p.m. deadline. That means his name will not be on the Feb. 7 ballot.

The filing requirements are not particularly onerous. A $1,000 check and some paperwork are all that's needed.

Imagine if it did come down to Gingrich and Romney and they were tied, but Gingrich lost because of this one error.

He doesn't have to worry about that -- it's a "beauty contest" with no delegates actually at stake.

That said, this sort of thing suggests that he needs to tighten his ship, PDQ.

Repeat. Newt is in compliance with the National Republican Party rules. Primary is meaningless..our caucus is on March 17th which is when our delegates are selected. This is a NON story and a very weak “gotcha” attempt.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. — After Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed the elections bill and the General Assembly failed to achieve final passage of the presidential primary bill prior to Oct. 1, the Missouri Republican State Committee held an emergency meeting on Thursday to ensure our state is in compliance with the rules of the Republican Party. During this meeting, the committee voted unanimously to amend our call to convention and go to a caucus system for the 2012 election.

“The Missouri Republican Party is committed to ensuring that the governor’s veto of the elections bill and the General Assembly’s failure to move our presidential primary will not disrupt the national nominating process,” said David Cole, chairman of the Missouri Republican Party. “A caucus will continue to protect the rights of Missourians to select the Republican nominee for president — and any self-declared Republican who is registered to vote in Missouri has the ability to participate in the caucus process.”

Missouri is the least of my problem with Newt. His latest push to give amnesty to illegals is the last straw. And that comes from a legal immigrant myself. I did not arrive here to live in a lawless country.

Even worse than that Newt will do what Newt wants to do. He could’nt give a rat’s a$$ what us conservatives want done. However, I would have no problem with him in some type of role in the new GOP admin.

You are taking everything out of context. Would advise you to go to his site and read his policy on illegals rather than base it on a brief comment during a debate. BTW...tell me how exactly any other candidate would deport millions? rent buses? go into the homes with a swat team? take out families and dump them into Mexico? he is not for granting blanket amnesty to anyone here illegally..show me where he said that..we already know that each candidate wants secure borders but have any of them really talked about how they plan to round up the millions here and send them back to Mexico or wherever? what resources will the use?

That is very easy. Make it illegal to hire illegals! Duh!!

If there is a mandatory 30 day jail for the CEO for every illegal found working, you will be shocked how fast the illegals will self deport. With the computer power we have, it would only take a a minute to check on someone’s legal status, using a federal data base.

Learn from history! Have you observed what is happening in Alabama? The illegals are SELF-DEPORTING!

You agree with Newt on the data base. You better check out those CEO’S and make sure Godfather’s Pizza never hired any illegals.
All the states are not adopting Alabama’s law. Tell me exactly how Cain, Bachmann plan on rounding up 20 million illegals and deporting them? what is their plan other than the worn out mantra of building a fence (Newt supports that) The illegals in the USA come from all over the globe. Who is going to pay to fly them home? to find them all...to bus them out of the US? who and where will they be detained until deportation? sheesh, Calif. prisons are so full they are letting out felons. Should we send SWAT teams into homes of “illegals” that have resided in the US for 20 yrs ..aka Elian style...dump them at the border? or at least consider Newt’s plan which does NOT grant them amnesty and has fines and steps that must be followed before they can become citizens? including going to the back of the line

"The candidates themselves don’t actually file, they have people that are supposed to do that."

So Newt isn't prepared to assume the "buck stops here" mantle?

You got it. If this had been Cain, this would have been proof positive that Cain:

a. Doesn't have a ground game
b. Is running an amateur campaign
c. Isn't really running at all, he's just trying to sell books
d. Isn't ready for prime time
e. Doesn't know how to surround himself with the right people, which is what he brags about all the time
f. If he can't even get on the ballot, how is he going to run our Country?
g. Oh, and did I mention he's black?

Really, G is the only one that matters for the haters. But they won't say that out loud.

In the real world, this happens with some candidates every year. It's unfortunate from an Image perspective, but not from an actual Winning Strategy perspective. Spend your money and your time where the votes will put you in the White House, not where they are just for SHOW in the Show Me state.

(This is no way a deal-breaker for me, but for the record, I would rather a candidate get on the ballot in EVERY state, just to show respect for all 57 states, since he/she will be President of all 57 states. And if I lived in Missouri and my candidate didn't bother to get on my ballot, I would be pretty angry.)

Did you even read my post?

There is no need to round up anybody. Kill the incentive and the illegals WILL DEPORT THEMSELVES. Pass laws which punish CEO’s responsible for hiring illegals, and 90% of illegals will pay their own way back to Mexico.

The candidates themselves don’t actually file, they have people that are supposed to do that.

If the candidate is organized enough to get the people in place.

Agreed. If this had been done by Cain, people would be all over it. As the Chicago Tribune article noted, “Gingrich’s will be the only familiar name missing from the GOP ballot” and the reason why ten candidates filed is “the nonbinding contest will be the only primary in the country between the Florida primary on Jan. 31 and the Arizona and Michigan primaries on Feb. 28. Candidates wishing to maintain their momentum, and media visibility, through that dry spell in February may well see Missouri as a place to compete for bragging rights.”

Let’s get down to brass tacks. I live in Missouri. Here’s the Secretary of State’s website with a list of candidates who did meet the deadline:

For those who don’t like to click on links here’s the list, together with the time they filed. Looks like most people except Gingrich filed in plenty of time:

If no delegates from from it, then it could've been a waste of $1000 probably best used elsewhere.

I've little understood these states doing both primaries and caucuses while only one process decides the delegates.

For someone who is so ‘smart’ this is a pretty dumb move. Conservatives have a once in decades opportunity to rebuke liberalism and the best they can come up with is Romney or Gingrich? This must be some kind of joke.

“Tell me exactly how Cain, Bachmann plan on rounding up 20 million illegals and deporting them?”

Can’t speak for Cain or Bachman, but it worked for Eisenhower...

http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0706/p09s01-coop.html

They’re not going to “go to the back of the line” when ther is zero encouragement to do so. Newt’s plan is nothing more than the same closet amnesty Bush proposed....empty words with ZERO enforcement. A couple of raids, a trip to the border for a quick photo op, and it’s back to BUSINESS AS USUAL.

Whoevere the Republican nominee is, he’ll need all 50 states to beat Obama. If you can’t do something as simple as pay attention to these state deadlines, what right do you have to be president. How can one be so irresponsible as to just give away a state, no contest? Gingrich is out.

The Carnahans have the posthumous endorsement of HST; they are really powerful in MO. But for some reason, the widow Carnahan lost in 2002. Then James Talent lost the seat in 2006.
