Hosted by the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute, the theme of tonight's Republican presidential debate is foreign policy and national security.
The debate is being held at Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.
CNN is carrying the debate live at 8 p.m. EST.
Participating candidates are: businessman Herman Cain, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Speaker Newt Gingrich, Reps. Ron Paul (TX) and Michele Bachmann (MN), former Gov. Jon Huntsman, and former Sen. Rick Santorum.
Doesn't mean Cain, Bachmann, and Perry have to go along with it. I think if they pooled their resources and support, they could put together fewer and much more meaningful appearances and discussions steered by agreed-on CONSERVATIVE moderators and ground rules.
Walk away from the GOP establishment, get the votes, and the GOP will come crying after you like it did with Reagan.
Looks like "The Klan with a Tan" is doing a good job.
"The Black vote" doesn't even know who Cain is yet. A good number of them don't even know he's black yet. That's because most Democrats aren't even paying any attention to what the Republicans are doing right now, other than soundbites they hear on TV or see in a headline. I'm talking about average Joe citizens, not political junkies like us. And the black community is typically even less engaged in politics than the average white Democrat, so they know even less about Cain.
Any poll conducted now, that includes Democrats is going to go to Obama almost every time. (1) Obama has the sitting President factor. (2) Romney has been running for 7 years and nobody on OUR side even likes him, so you can't expect any Dems to vote for him. (3) As for the other Repub candidates, we haven't chosen our candidate so Dems don't know who any of the other players are (except Newt). (4) We haven't promoted our nominee against Obama.
So when we choose our nominee, whoever that is, we will start bombarding the airwaves with campaign ads point out "How's that hope and change working out for you??" So ANY candidate that we choose will start to do better after we choose one, because we will start to contrast him/her with Obama.
If we choose Cain, THEN the black vote will suddenly realize that not only is he black, but he shares the same values as a lot of them do -- especially the over 50 crowd, who had values and work ethic.
Lastly, take a look at this article from Morehouse College - Cain's alma mater - which is an HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities):
At Morehouse College, the Herman Cain question is a live wire
The article says, as we already know, that Cain will get a look simply because he is black.
IF he wins the nomination, I hope you're proven correct. You've made some very good points.
Can Cain resonant with black voters to the extent that their awakened conservative members pull the lever for him? I don't know now, but I like your optimism.
In this economy, if you have lost your job, I’d say u would do most any job to keep your house, car and put food on the table.
Maybe u would not, but most would, in TODAYS economy.
Polls are not fool-proof. Giuliani was poll leader 4 years ago. The recent thread on comments from students at Morehouse college (all black college) were more enlightening to me than a poll whose demographics could be suspect. Never forget, blood is thicker than water.
There was a poll about a month ago, before the sexual harassment allegations, and it had enough of a percentage of black respondents to give some numbers for comparison. The poll separately compared:
Obama vs. Romney
Obama vs. (either Perry or Gingrich, I can't remember)
Obama vs. Cain
In the Obama vs. Romney and Obama vs. (Perry or Gingrich) polls, the not-Romney vote got 3-4 percent of the black vote.
In the Obama vs. Cain poll, Cain got 7 percent of the black vote.
I know that's small, but I found it to be telling. First, it was a month ago — before Cain is courting the black vote, before Republicans are even running against Obama. And second, the fact that there was any difference in the black vote at all in ANY Republican, at this stage of the race, indicates there is a huge potential to reach a much larger percentage of the black vote, once the effort is made to do so.
Make no mistake, Cain will visit these HBCUs, and a decent percentage of those college kids (who are all easily persuaded, because they are kids) will swing to Cain... and swing their parents... and start talking up Cain on Facebook and Twitter and MySpace...
And one more thing we know for sure: The black vote swings in a wave... They haven't made individual decisions in a long time. So if Cain gets a groundswell going in the black community, it will be like a domino effect. 1000 votes will become 100,000 will become millions.
Have faith my FRiend. (Speaking of faith — don't forget the impact Cain's church can have on the vote in the black community.)
Intervening in Syria ?
With what goal ? Spreading islamism and setting fire to all the region like ObHamas is already doing ?
Are you mad ?
Don’t you realize what’s going on now ? Obomba has triggered a time-bomb( i fear it was deliberatly !)
Islamism will spread then all over europe much more with that jeopardy....You will get it in USA.
Time to stop the fairy tales and kumbaya songs.
Santorum was right. THe fight is against “radical islam” but islam IS radical....
Time to have a responsible and relevant strategy based on a relevant analysis
I don’t agree with you. You and I would do what is necessary to support our families. I think most wouldn’t. I think there are a lot of jobs that a lot of americans won’t do... even in this economy.
Why do you think I thought anything of the sort?
I'm AGAINST intervening in Syria and, I thought, made that crystal clear. Speaking of wrong impressions, Santorum is FOR intervention in Syria. The only guy on the stage who was against intervention in both Libya and Syria is Ron Paul.
They don't speak of killing them because they're open-border, Mexican-loving, anti-American RINO SOB's. If their names are John, they should really be Juan. If Michael, we should call them Miguel.
REAL border hawks aren't content with mere deportation. Only the RINOS. The real partriots support execution.
Hank
because I don’t support big government republicans?
