Boehner Commends 'Dignified and Statesmanlike' Negotiations of Supercommittee (Praises Patty Murray)

(CNSNews.com) - House Speaker John Boehner is among the lawmakers expressing disappointment that the 12-member Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction could not agree on a way to accomplish its assigned task, which was to reduce the federal budget deficit by $1.2 trillion.

"While I am disappointed, the House will forge ahead with the commitments we have made to reducing government spending and removing barriers standing in the way of private-sector job creation," Boehner said in a statement issued on Monday after the supercommittee announced its failure. "I commend both of the panel's leaders, (Republican Rep.) Jeb Hensarling and (Democratic Sen.) Patty Murray, for the dignified and statesmanlike manner in which the committee carried out its difficult negotiations," Boehner added.

While the bipartisan supercommittee could not agree on a way to narrow the federal budget deficit, it did agree on two things: '[W]e end this process united in our belief that the nation's fiscal crisis must be addressed and that we cannot leave it for the next generation to solve," members said in a statement issued on Monday.

The supercommittee also expressed the hope that Congress can now build on the work that its members started -- but failed to finish.

Democrats quickly blamed the supercommittee's failure on Republicans, who refused to go along with a trillion-dollar tax hike.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, writing in USA Today, said Republicans "never found the courage to ignore Tea Party extremists and millionaire lobbyists" who opposed any and all tax hikes. Reid cast Democrats as champions of a "balanced approach," which means tax increases:

Patty Murry is making a sacrifice to fix the budget by dropping her congressional dental plan.

Does one need further proof that the vast majority of our congresscritters are not the sharpest knives in the drawer?

And Bonehead is right there in dullsville.

Why do the Republicans always promote these goobers?

Because at heart they are bureaucrats, just like the democrats, and in the end will not vote against their own interests.

The system needs a fundamental change.

One of Boehner’s problems is that he thinks he is playing a softball game, when Obama, Reid, and Pelosi are constantly throwing 99mph fastballs at his head.

"Why do the Republicans always promote these goobers?"

A). They don't really care about the struggles of average Americans losing their jobs... all they really care about not losing their jobs. They'll talk a good talk- make you think that they are like you- and then trash you the minute they leave the room.

B). From a personality standpoint, they confuse being confident and assertive with being "out of line" and "extremist". They see somebody standing up to bullies, raising his/her voice at times if need be- and they are "appalled" by such "inappropriate behavior" (they never seem to have this problem of course if it's the Dems screaming at Tea Party folks...). They would rather defend the bullies than the people trying to fight back because they are weak, insecure, selfish people.

If he wins the primary, third party him.

I wish there were a way to convince people of the political (and unfortunately national) suicide that comes with the petulant, self-destructive "third party" nonsense.

If Boehner the blubbering buffoon wins the primary, then get a stronger candidate next time. Giving the dark side a seat gives them a chance for a scorched-earth, table-running takeover of our fine Republic, and there is no returning from that.

I wish there were a way to convince people to hit back and hit hard against quislings. But bootlicking has become an American artform where political poseurs and party serfs are concerned.

I don’t think you did that on purpose, but it does bear repeating.

Folding like a cheap tent. The Dems, right up through Pelosi, Reid and 0bama hiself..had prepared remarks for months to blame Republicans. And the Republican response is to ...thank them for it???!!! No wonder we don’t get anywhere..

We really needed to get in there and fight like a girl...oh well, maybe in the next life. I’m disgusted.
