As we sort through our reasons for gratitude this Thanksgiving, we can thank our lucky stars that Newt Gingrich will never be president of the United States.
Gingrich, currently the flavor of the GOP minute, is an interesting man with larger-than-life strengths in that he is a shrewd, bombastic collector of opinions. He also has some staggering weaknesses, such as arrogance, lack of discipline and hypocrisy.
But let us not savage the man; hes already self-destructed more times than seems humanly possible.
Where to start? He was ejected from his post as speaker of the House for ethics violations. Since such travesties abound in the House, that is really saying something.
He fought hard to impeach former President Bill Clinton for lying about Monica Lewinsky when, at the same time, he, Gingrich, was cheating on wife No. 2 (with whom he had cheated against wife No. 1 while she was recovering from cancer surgery) with wife No. 3. Gingrich also was found guilty of lying by the House Ethics Committee.
After complaining that he was seated at the rear of Air Force One on a presidential trip to Israel,

(2) For the 50 millionth time, Bill Clinton was impeached for lying to a Federal Judge, a felony. The context of the lie is relevant only to those who make excuses for him. He went right on lying, time and again, until physical evidence proved that he was lying.
(3) Gingrich's first wife did not have cancer. This lie comes from an old Mother Jones column. Newt's daughter tells a different story: Newt married Jackie Battley, his HS geometry teacher, when he was 18 and she was 26. Nine years and two kids later, they had grown apart. The divorce was her idea. They discussed the terms when she was in the hospital recoving from the removal of a BENIGN tumor. Actually, the three marriages is something that I think we can all find fault with. The left is actually screwing the pooch by playing loose with the facts.
(4) Newt was NOT found guilty of "lying" by the ethics panel. See point one and the point about screwing the pooch.
(5) This part is not included in the excerpt, but the column also gets into the FHLMC "lobbying" "scandal." Lobbying is heavily regulated in Washington, thanks in part to Barak Obama. The Bloomberg story relys on "unnmaned sources," and even then, what Gingrich did does not qualify. If it did, Barak Obama and Bill Clinton would also qualify as lobbyists.
I still don’t like Newtie for caving to Clinton in the Government Shutdown War of 1995.
I guess it won’t be unanimous.
So as I read the article I could tell it was written by a lib, and then I wondered what Cain supporting - Newt hating FR member sent it in to the the Boston Herald??
Given where we are right now I’d say those who want to make a big deal of Newt’s faults will ‘love’ Mitt Romney. It is time to talk turkey. Romney WILL be the nominee unless conservatives rally around a candidate and stop him. Compared to Mitt Romney I can easily accept Gingrich, Cain, Perry or Bachmann.
That’s fine, but I suspect you will like 4 more years of Obama or Romney even less.
Newt can win, Newt can lead, Newt can quickly turn the country around.
This is so disingenuous. The assertions were ultimately found to be without merit.
I don't understand your complaint. It's the right going after him now. The left may get its chance; but it's not their turn yet. Hopefully, they won't get that chance.
presidio9, I can’t thank you enough for what you do.
Amen Gator:) Presidio9 has done his homework. He is an intelligent freeper.
Awfully quiet in here. Usually just posting the word Newt or Gingrich is like aggravating a hive of African Bees.
“Gingrich, Cain, Perry or Bachmann”
Who is most well kow, been there, most highly vetted (least likely to have a surprise for us) and has the REAL gravitas to be POTUS? Not who is nicest, has best smile, all the other BS.
We need a warrior that will be able to absolutely club the opposition into the ground, in a debate, on the stump and in the media. Kill the media with quips and outsmart them. Someone who can do it with authority and without wavering or hoping someone will pass a cheat sheet or speed up the teleprompter.
We all know who that is. We all don’t like it, that’s all.
That being said, I have a lot of concerns about Newt. We can start with his "on the couch" scene with Pelosi where he was pushing Global Warming. We can then move on to his conduct in the NY 22nd district election, where he endorsed the RINO over the conservative.
Both of these incidents give me Juan McCain flashbacks and I don't think we can afford a rerun of the 2008 election.
Give it time. I love Gingrich threads, because it give me the chance to expose how many of the so-called "negatives" are actually fabrications.
After a brief stop in loserNewtsville, the Cain train will be soon be departing the station for Iowa... ALL ABOARD!
Go Cain!
Actually, Gingrich himself is on record agreeing that these are fair criticisms. The point is: Who is your VIABLE alternative?
The DNC poo-flinging trolls are torn between the Perry and Gingrich threads...they’re as mixed up as the St. Louis Rams crappy defense...lousy coverage...
Great... Somebody said the work Cain. This place is about to go to hell in a hand-basket.
A major trend I'm noticing here on FR: Gingrich/Romney/Perry (maybe even Bachmann) supporters would never go on a thread and post something like this about a Republican candidate they are not currently supporting. For Cain supporters, it seems to have developed into second nature.
errr... “word” that is...
