NASHUA, N.H -- Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said on Monday that he thinks the collapse of the congressional super committee "is good for America," and that the country's debt problem can be solved through the regular work of Congress.

But...now that it does we must deal with the results or lack there of.
The crisis is upon us.
Happy Thanksgiving indeed...
I am actually shocked that the Republicans didn’t cave.
We’re in trouble with the field of candidates we have. If election were held today I think we’d lose.
The super committee was designed to just keep kicking the can down the road.
The automatic cuts resulting from the super committee’s failure are preferable to any deal they could have come up with that would have included tax increases.
“...the collapse of the congressional super committee “is good for America,” and that the country’s debt problem can be solved through the regular work of Congress.”
I very much agree with this.
Actually they did by agreeing to raising taxes, but the Democrats were under strict orders to not accept any deal. This whole circus was orchestrated when Boehnor went golfing.
You mean that you are swallowing what the media tells you?
Even people I know who voted for Obama (personal friends or colleagues) want him OUT!
They caved when they voted for the supercommittee. They have played right into obama’s hand.
That would be precedent setting with regard to certain economic conditions I believe and those won’t be measurably better one year from this month.
I don't see one good think this does for America, except give Newt a bunch of newt talking points to how he would have done things differently.
yada, yada, yada
Gingrich has a couple of decades of experience with unprincipled political gamesmanship that is designed to accomplish absolutely nothing. It’s the mark of his entire career. No surprises here.
That's pretty much the bumper sticker for this entire campaign season. Sums it up perfectly.
But did the members get paid for being on the Super Committee? BTW, this failure shows that John Kerry is indecisive and unfit to be a leader.
The purpose of each and every congressional committee is to buy votes while kicking the can further down the road.
All members both parties should be taken to GITMO and used as water boarding training dumiies.
In this case, sequestration is a very good thing. While that’s in place for a year, we’ll see if Congress can address the spending problem through its regular work.
It’ll be a first, if so.
Exactly!
BTW, the Department of Defense alone has over 700,000 civilian employees. There is a lot of fiscal fat that can be cut without touching military personnel, military pay or military operations.
Morever, sequestration only reduces the AMOUNT of spending GROWTH next year. Budgets will still, of course, go up.
So am I.
Let’s not get too excited, tho. There’s plenty of opportunity for them to cave from now to the election.
