At this point, President Obama has got to be sick of hearing about buyer's remorse from Democratic voters; and I'm sure Hillary Clinton is getting sick of hearing about why she should run against Obama in 2012, but the calls for Obama to step down and for Clinton to step up are only getting louder. Democratic pollsters Doug Schoen and Patrick Caddell have said Obama should step aside before, and they did it again over the weekend in the Wall Street Journal.
He should abandon his candidacy for re-election in favor of a clear alternative, one capable not only of saving the Democratic Party, but more important, of governing effectively and in a way that preserves the most important of the president's accomplishments. He should step aside for the one candidate who would become, by acclamation, the nominee of the Democratic Party: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Never before has there been such an obvious potential successor—one who has been a loyal and effective member of the president's administration, who has the stature to take on the office, and who is the only leader capable of uniting the country around a bipartisan economic and foreign policy.
Certainly, Mr. Obama could still win re-election in 2012. Even with his all-time low job approval ratings (and even worse ratings on handling the economy) the president could eke out a victory in November. But the kind of campaign required for the president's political survival would make it almost impossible for him to govern—not only during the campaign, but throughout a second term.
Put simply, it seems that the White House has concluded that if the president cannot run on his record, he will need to wage the most negative campaign in history to stand any chance. With his job approval ratings below 45% overall and below 40% on the economy, the president cannot affirmatively make the case that voters are better off now than they were four years ago. He—like everyone else—knows that they are worse off.
Even though Mrs. Clinton has expressed no interest in running, and we have no information to suggest that she is running any sort of stealth campaign, it is clear that she commands majority support throughout the country. A CNN/ORC poll released in late September had Mrs. Clinton's approval rating at an all-time high of 69%—even better than when she was the nation's first lady. Meanwhile, a Time Magazine poll shows that Mrs. Clinton is favored over former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney by 17 points (55%-38%), and Texas Gov. Rick Perry by 26 points (58%-32%).
But this is about more than electoral politics. Not only is Mrs. Clinton better positioned to win in 2012 than Mr. Obama, but she is better positioned to govern if she does. Given her strong public support, she has the ability to step above partisan politics, reach out to Republicans, change the dialogue, and break the gridlock in Washington.
So, say Clinton does decide to jump in the race, which is highly unlikely, ObamaCare is still off the table for debate if Romney gets the GOP nomination; remember HillaryCare anyone?
What does Huma think about the idea?
Obama will win in 2012:
Hardcore 40% + brilliant intellectual independents+
hardcore liberals=Obama in 2012, 55 to 45%.
IMHO
The piece omits one small fact. There is no one willing to sacrifice them selves and run. There is no democrat who can win and if they did win prevail against the nations Rat wrought problems.
Hillary, the Hillary who has lost the botox and gained the ass tire goo, looks harried to the point of exhaustion. Only bill Clinton can save the day. His goal is to be reelected and then promptly die of heart failure. His legacy will be saved by dying in office

Sing along :
How’s that hope and change working out for you? | Did it give you all that you want it to? | Did it lead you into the promised land? | Next time you step inside of the voting booth | Maybe you will think of the honest truth | Instead of raising a foolish man
Americans may be idiots: they repeatedly nominate and elect bad people. They are looking for a federal program to be created to benefit themselves specifically, and it never happens.
The problem is that Hillary Clinton is every bit the far left ideologue that Obama is. She would be just as bad, perhaps worse, than Obama in that the Clintons are notorious prevaricators who can make it look like they care about the USA. Hillary Clinton with a democrat Congress would be the end of America as we knew her. There isn’t a lick of difference between Obama and Clinton.
Obama with senior poll advisers deciding (coin toss) ....
Heads...run with Biden
Tails ....run with Hillary as VP
Adviser (to self)...."and your re-election odds are about the same as the coin landing on its edge"
He’ll quit rather than be defeated. Wants to spend more time with the family.
You could be right, the 14 million unemployed is not enough to turn this election. The critical mass of gummint workers and idiots with jobs in private economy will do it..
Truman took office in April 1945, just months after FDR's last inauguration, and did run and win in 1948, serving seven years.
Johnson served out JFK's first term and then ran in 1964 defeating Goldwater. He dropped out in 1968 after being seriously challenged in New Hampshire and another primary.
Hillary as veep, is same as saying 0 will have unfortunate accident within months of election.
0 may stupid but he could not be that stupid
nobama shouldn’t quit. nobama should turn him self in to the authorities at Leavenworth and demand to be prosecuted. One can dream, no?
Yeah, you can dream, but you know it’ll never happen. He thinks himself as the greatest person ever to walk on this planet
“Americans are just idiots.”

Unfortunately what you say applies to all too many. I sometimes imagine my grandfather, who was born in 1879 and died in 1965, resurrected and looking around at the world as it exists today. He would not recognize it and he would certainly be amazed at how modern Americans are able to believe things that would have qualified them for a free home in an insane asylum the year Granddad died.
The real root of the problem is the stupidity of the electorate who put Obama in office. Ignorance can be corrected if the ignorant realize their own ignorance but unacknowledged ignorance is stupidity and that cannot be fixed by any candidate for office.
We have and have had for decades a “news media” that is nothing more than a propaganda system devoted to the destruction of everything that has made this country great in the past. The damage it has wreaked cannot and will not be repaired any time in the near future.
Anyone who stands up and says what used to be considered everyday common sense, as incontrovertible as the sunrise, is now branded a kook by the media while those who spout absurdity are looked upon as leaders. Disagreements between “left” and “right” are all too often simply debates between advocates of two different brands of absurdity. No one wants to even think about the truth, it has become too horrible to face.
Bingo - I speak to a lot of people who voted for this communist traitor in 2008 - they are as delusional and stupid as ever.
Our best hope is that they stay home.
Not a chance. Hillary! isn’t gonna be #2 to anyone, esp. to an inept empty suit he11-bent on a crash landing. If she’s serious about being POTUS, she is running out of time.
Methinks nobody BUT Biden would be the Obama’s VP at this point. He’s not going any higher, isn’t going anywhere of note afterwards, and he’s already there, so he may as well enjoy the ride as long as he can.
There is a couple of differences, Hillary (or the clinton staff) is far more competent/dangerous then Obama.
Obama is the kind of guy, you bribe to get good seat and a special meal in the restaurant, and he does his best, and you get food poisoning....lol.
The other thing is, while Hillary, like Obama, likes to hook her friends up with government support, unlike Obama, the Clintons were a hell of a lot better at it. The only thing Obama can do is give taxpayer money to his buddies, Hillary and Bill did that and a whole lot more.
Michelle Obama was notorious for making jokes about this saying the same things during the 2008 campaign, both before and after Biden was picked.
