Should Mitt Romney be the nominee of the Republican party for president in 2012? Perhaps. Should voters support him because he's the "inevitable" nominee? No.
For one thing, his nomination is evitable - perhaps all too evitable (see below). For another, we are a proud, self-governing people. We're sometimes even an obstreperous bunchâand a good thing it is for the cause of liberty. We often balk at yielding meekly to claims of inevitability. Here in America, we the people rule by electing. We don't bow to those anointed by pundits.
But really, you might ask - isn't Romney inevitable? And the answer is, really, no.

“Mitt = Obama”
that is, in fact, a false statement.
Romney has the main stream media all the democrats and the elite republicans on his side..
as well as academia and hollywood..
The very reason he should NOT BE PRESIDENT...
He has all the reasons he should be ignored..
He should be pilloried and laughed off stage..
WHERE I HAVE BEEN
(and where I have NOT been .)
I have been in many places, but I’ve never been in Cahoots. Apparently, you can’t go alone. You have to be in Cahoots with someone.
I’ve also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there.
I have, however, been in Sane. They don’t have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my friends, family and work.
I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I’m not too much on physical activity anymore.
I have never been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there.
I’ve been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm.
Sometimes I’m in Capable, and I go there more often as I’m getting older.
One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get!
And more and more I think of the Here After. Several times a day, in fact, I enter a room and think “What am I here after?”
It wasn’t holier than thou.
What I’m saying is that Kristol actually is conservative in a lot of ways, and we have to accept people when they are right and in the areas in which they are right, and encourage them in it. If he has come to the realization that Romney is not “it,” then this is a good thing and should be commended.
Many self-proclaimed conservatives believe in obliterating people who do not agree with them on every single point. What you have to do is work towards agreement, argue your points rationally, and convince people. There’s a lot more insulting and raving going on here than rational argument and attempts to convince people, and this is seriously counterproductive.
Kristol is not perfect and few of us are. But if only the perfect vote, we’re surely going to lose this election. And then things are going to be very, very bad for all of us.
“that is, in fact, a false statement”
Literally yes. That’s not the way I meant it. Politically there are more similarities than differences....
I agree with your assessment of Bill Kristol.
I had the good fortune to meet Mr. Kristol during the 2008 primary season, as McCain was pulling ahead. I asked him whether he thought Romney could rally conservatives to stop McCain. He became visibly upset:
“Romney is a fake conservative. Where was he in the 90’s when we were fighting the battles on welfare reform, healthcare, and entitlements?”
This is a huge problem. Mitt is the same as Obama as both of them will destroy America. However, voting for Mitt has the additional disadvantage of giving control of the GOP back to the RINOs. I would rather grit my teeth and tolerate one more Obama term if I know that RINOs are losing control of the GOP. Besides, the next election will see the GOP gain control of the House and the Senate. So it won't be that bad.
Did the RINOs behave like you did in case of Murkowski? Did they oppose her third party candidacy? Loyalty cannot be a one way street.
That’s all you had to say. Shoving your bible into the face of someone else is a good way to get a nasty response (at a bare bones minimum).
Back off.
Wrong...he’s inevitable. Anyone not up for that better start looking for your barf-bag now because it’s the used car salesman or Marxist Unleashed (and unfettered by any re-election worries)...your choice. There is NO white knight coming.
Righto...Romney is a near disaster for the presidency, but 4 years of Obama unleashed with utterly and finally destroy this country. I firmly believe he intends to burn it down if he gets 4 more years. He wants that for his legacy.
Palin has toed the Party line repeatedly. After her endorsement of Carly Fiorina, I had no more use for her.
Still in Mitt’s camp are ya? Does it have anything to do with him being an ‘Elder in Zion’?
I really do not see how you can call yourself a conservative and EVEN CONSIDER supporting Romney.
I would cheerfully vote for Mark Levins famous empty orange juice can over Obama or Romney, as the red koolaid is no better than the blue koolaid.

BINGO!! Romney not only needs to not get the nomination, he needs to be kicked out of the party for treason.
BTW, glad to see you are still around. I got your freepmail but accidentally deleted it before I could respond. :(
Mitt = Obama (BG)
that is, in fact, a false statement. (Elepadre).
- - - - - - -
It isn’t false at all. Romney agrees with Obama on all major social points. Romney lies about everything and flip flops on a near daily basis.
Both Mitt and Obama are seeking to destroy this country, both are anti-Christians and liberals. At least Obama isn’t pretending to be a conservative and in that way Romney is even MORE dangerous. Obama is the enemy who will attack you from the front, Romney is the ‘friend’ who will stab you in the back.
Obama thinks he is the new Messiah while Romney believes he is fulfilling a prophecy of Joseph Smith and thinks he is on his way to becoming God.
NEITHER of them are EVER an acceptable choice for POTUS and acquiescence or resignation to vote for Romney (who will never win anyway) is playing right into the liberal (and Obama’s) hand. Zero WANTS Romney to be the nominee because that is about the ONLY chance Zero has of another term.
JUST SAY NO to MITT ROMNEY.
Romney is Obama, just paler.
If you support Romney say so and say why.
You claim to be a conservative and Romney is not a conservative so how/why do you support him?
Do you really expect her to come out of the closet considering how this site views Romney?
I suspect either crickets or LFTL
And the only reason he's that high is all of the blatant media support he's getting.
No, not really. I was just hoping that some lds somewhere would finally be honest.
The thing is I really think most LDS who support Romney have rationalized their support for him by saying there are other reasons, not because he is LDS. It is a very common thing for them to lie to themselves and others about things relating to the LDS church. I am sure that you, like me, know of the LDS view of supporting their own over Gentiles, but when I was LDS, I would not admit to gentiles, and probably not even to myself that I would almost automatically vote for a Mormon over a gentile because it was a given that they ‘obviously’ were more trustworthy since they were LDS (especially Temple LDS) and they would do their best to further Mormonism.
Most LDS are not honest with themselves, there is such a emotional and missionary need to show others how ‘wonderful’ Mormonism is. They cannot admit faults about ‘the Church’, its leaders, its doctrine or is history because it might cause them to ‘lose their testimony’, like Elsie posts ‘do not criticize LDS leaders even if the criticism is true’.
Sadly, this fear of losing their faith in Mormonism very often leads to the rationalization and lying (to themselves at a minimum) in order to hold on to their testimony. The LDS faith cannot, in any way, withstand any real scrutiny and they are constantly told not to ask questions, or read anything that is not ‘faith promoting’. Expecting a Mormon to be honest about anything relating to the LDS church is expecting too much and they may not even realize or see that they are rationalizing, dissembling or flat out lying.
How does this relate to politics and particularly closet support for Mitt? Having been LDS, I know there is a self imposed, and cultural expectation and pressure to vote for and support another LDS, especially because there is an expectation that they (like the LDS person) will put ‘the Church’ (not God, not Christ) first and that a LDS leader will benefit the LDS church if in no other way than to validate them in the eyes of others or as a missionary tool (Glen Beck is a great example of this). However, they would never admit that the are supporting someone JUST because they are LDS, simply because it might make ‘the Church’ look bad if they admitted that was the only or primary reason.
So, while we have seen more than a few know LDS on here imply or directly state they are supporting Mitt, to admit it openly would make them (or worse ‘the Church’) look bad so they won’t do it and if they do openly admit to supporting Romney they have rationalization for doing so (like he is the inevitable candidate). I’m not even sure you can blame them for this behavior because so much of it comes from the culture of Mormonism and their need to put the LDS church in the best light. I understand why they do what they do because I was the same way once, long ago and only saw the rationalization and lies I told myself and others long after I left the LDS church and became a Christian. In this aspect they are the same as liberals.
While I would love for them to be open and honest, I don’t expect it, because as I posted on another thread, once that happens a door opens that can easily lead them out of Mormonism.
