Washington and Des Moines - Throughout the roller-coaster Republican presidential contest, one thing hasn't changed: the stubborn refusal of many tea party supporters to warm up to Mitt Romney.
The swift rise and abrupt fall of a succession of GOP candidates has been driven in part by the restless search for a Romney alternative by that group of voters, who energized the GOP's big turnaround in 2010.
"They don't trust Mitt Romney," said Simon Conway, a Des Moines radio host popular with tea party followers. "Mitt Romney can be tea party one minute, and the next minute introduce 'RomneyCare'" the Massachusetts healthcare plan Romney pushed as governor.
Privately, Romney's campaign expects that tea party backers will rally around him once he starts winning primaries. Until then, he has made a carefully calibrated effort to embrace them.

I wont vote for him... nor will I vote for Newt...
F them, and F the CS’ers that want to force these socialist DH’s on me.
If your perfect candidate doesn’t get the nomination, please do go vote anyway, at least for the other down ticket spots.
Mitt’s problem isn’t that he’s liberal. It’s that he’s Joe Isuzu, both in style AND substance.
last Man Standing.
And it won’t be Bruce Willis this time.
I wonder what the bookies odds are in Vegas?
5-1 Romney?
15-1 Cain?
100-1 Perry?
Its almost Friday, the evisceration has started upon Newt, I give it the weekend plus two days so around Wednesday next week his polls will drop and then the MSM will prop someone else up.
FUMR
If you vote for Romney you vote for Global Socialism. The only difference is a label. R or D. Study Romney. What you will find is a man so dishonest he makes Bill Clinton look like??? Mitt Romney.
The only difference is Bill had no control over his testicles. Romney has no control over his lying mouth.
Funny about that, I had the same response.
The only difference between mittens and obama is the color.Wise up sir.
“...and then the MSM will prop someone else up.”
Is there anyone else left? I guess Buddy Roemer will finally get some attention.
I am leaning very much in the same direction... Yes he would be better for America than Obama, no question, but it will be politics as usual for his term and NO Real long term solutions... Conservative Republicans will get all the blame for what transpires and we will lose all we gained by Obama showing how bad a truley Liberal “smooth talker” will make things... With Romney, any recovery or changes wont be nearly what it could be with the right “non politician” peron in there to actually CHANGE Washington. I would love to see Cain in there, but I could vote for Gingrich or even Perry if I had to. Bachman too if she somehow got there instead of Mittens, but just dont know I can hold my nose again this time, only chance at this point would be if he picks the right running mate, I might could do it again, like I did last time, just told myself I was voting Against Obama and For Palin.
No, he would not. Especially if the GOP holds the House and gains the Senate (which they likely will).
Allow me to explain:
While nobody is claiming that he is as bad as Obama, he is still a liberal Northeastern who would make George HW Bush or Gerald Ford seem like right-wing extremists by comparison. He is a Repubican in the mold of Olympia Snowe. I think we can agree on that.
With a GOP Congress, his initiatives would receive far less scrutiny than similar initiatives proposed by a "moderate" Demoncrap president with the same views.
He would nominate SCOTUS justices in the mold of Harry Blackmun or John Paul Stevens (both Repubican-nominated former justices).
On the other hand, any initiative by Obama would be utterly blocked by a totally GOP-controlled Congress. Particularly if they did not have to "compromise" like they do now with a Demoncrap-controlled Senate.
The bottom line is that Romney, in my opinion, would be far more dangerous than Obama...particularly if the Congress is controlled by the GOP. Because Congress would give him at least a partial pass.
Conservative Republicans will get all the blame for what transpires and we will lose all we gained by Obama showing how bad a truley Liberal smooth talker will make things.
Exactly.
Frankly, if Mittens is the nominee, it would be better to abandon that race (or vote 3rd party) and spend all your efforts trying to get Dhims and RINOs out of Congress...in order to minimize the damage that is done by whoever would be the next resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW.
Considering Mitt Romney as the GOP nominee I will be
unenthusiastic (56%, 55 Votes)
skipping the top line on the ballot (31%, 31 Votes)
somewhat enthusiastic (8%, 8 Votes)100% enthusiastic
(5%, 5 Votes)Total Voters: 99
Yes it is a small sample, but the question should be asked by Rasmussen and the rest for each candidate.
These numbers spell doom for us if Willard is our nominee.
At the worst, two-faved, flip-flopping socialist romney is a man who tossed his core principals to the side for the sake of political expediency.
He is not worthy of consideration.
So my vow: I will NEVER VOTE FOR ROMNEY...Ever.
> Romney campaign expects Tea Partiers to surrender
They obviously don’t understand the Tea Party.
Surrender? To Romnuts? ROTFLMAO...like that’s happening! KMA, Willard!
Some are politicians who try to play the part of a conservative when it helps them. Others are conservatives who play the part of a politician when it helps us. Both Mitt and Newt are the former and I wouldn’t voter for either of them. I held my nose in ‘08 and voted for a RINO. Never again!
He’s a fake, and he doesn’t know the territory!
I think Romney has a “sacrificial annode” strategy.
pump up other low end candidates so nobody watches him.
next the MSM is going to pump up huntsman and then it will be Romney’s.
