WASHINGTON -(Dow Jones)- Democrats on the congressional deficit-reduction committee delved into another round of meetings Thursday, insisting that the next step toward compromise must come from Republicans. Sen. Patty Murray of Washington, the Democratic leader of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, said that Democrats made a significant concession in their latest proposal. "We have made it clear that we are willing to meet their offer, but it has to be in a way that's fair to working families and puts our country back to work," she told reporters as she entered a meeting of the supercommittee's six Democratic lawmakers. Democrats last Friday accepted many elements of a proposal by Sen. Pat Toomey (R., Pa.) for about $400 billion in tax hikes and other revenues and $876 billion in spending cuts, in details of the meeting that emerged this week, according to Democratic aides. Republicans rejected the proposal because Democrats did not want to extend the Bush-era tax cuts. GOP lawmakers had maintained Wednesday that they were waiting for a Democratic response to Toomey's $1.2 trillion deficit-reduction proposal. "The productive conversation has to be on their side now to resolve the difference of where they are on whether or not to put real revenue on the table, " Murray said Thursday. "Once they've resolved that and are willing to compromise--as we have--then we can reach a deal." The bipartisan, 12-lawmaker panel has less than a week to reach agreement on how to reduce the federal budget deficit by at least $1.2 trillion over 10 years. If the supercommittee can't find a deal before Nov. 23, or Congress doesn't approve it by late December, automatic spending cuts of the same size will be triggered, starting in 2013.

The Repubs have already compromised their no-tax principle. Dowdy Mom in Tennis Shoes might want to explain that one further.
Or rather...
Osama Fan in Tennis Shoes.
And how are you supposed to compromise with an alcoholic on their drinking problem or a drug addict with their substance abuse...This is more liberal double-speak, as they are trying to keep their precious progressivism and statist policies alive in the face of bitter financial reality. Good luck with that one!
In other words: the GOP needs to make the all the proposals, so the Democrats can sit back and attack them.
Patty wouldn’t know “fair” if it hit her in the face.
The libs will spend every nickle in added revenue twice!
If they had a goose that laid golden eggs, they’d set the egg on the shelf and carve up the goose!
congressional deficit-reduction committee?
The ommies in her state, and believe me there are plenty of them, keep voting this ding bat back in. We must vote the career politicians OUT of Congress, both the House AND the Senate! Impose term limits to Congress with no pensions!
We also need to go back to the way we used to vote at the polls, with human beings counting the ballots! Until we do, how do we know what votes are counting and what votes are not! Computers are rigged. A Republican and a Democrat should both count the ballots and recount them until they tally. Also, Validity of the voter must be tightened.
She probably won’t have to wait very long.
Will Boehner and McConnell sell out the country to claim a bipartisan compromise? I think we are going to be sold down the river.
Would that be commies or mommies?
Thank you, Commies, of course.
Senator Max Baucus, Democrat, Montana, was raised on the family’s Seiben Sheep Ranch near Helena, MT. One day, Max’s Dad took the pickup out to look for young Max. He turned the corner by the barn, and saw Max furiously humping a ewe.
“Max!”, his father screamed. “Get in the truck!”
They raced in to town and parked in front of the post office. People were lined-up around the block to get into the post office.
“There!”, said Max’s Dad. “Have sex with one of those people!”
Max was confused.
“Why one of these people, Dad?”
“Because”, Max’s Dad explained, “Today is April 15th and the only people lined up at the post office on April 15th are people who have to pay their taxes.”
“So?” asked little Max.
“So we’re Democrats and we screw the taxpayers. Leave the sheep for the libertarians.”
You should be flogged for posting that picture.
Downright cruel.
Yes we just need to keep reminding everyone this whole super committee is totally unconstitutional. What are Senators doing trying to originate financial legislation? All financial legislation has to originate in the House of Representatives.
