Chief District Court Judge Brenda Branch has ruled that Halifax County (NC) parents are going to be held accountable for their childrens school attendance and that could mean jail if they are not deemed to have made an effort to promote school attendance, writes the Daily Herald.
The proposal is a collaborative effort between the Halifax County court system, three public school systems and county agencies that are looking to address truancy issues for students in the district.
It was announced this week at the Halifax County Community Child Protection Team meeting. Branch, along with District Attorney Melissa Pelfrey delivered the message as many heavy hitters in the Halifax County law and public education fields rallied behind the proposal.
There was much confusion around whos responsibility it was to handle truancy that some children were missing from 40 to 80 days from school without suffering any consequences, said Arnethia Nicholson, chair of the team and Halifax County Department of Social Services employee.
The combined efforts of the school systems, Halifax County court system, Department of Juvenile Justice, Department of Social Services and The Community Child Protection Team resulted in the Tri-District Truancy Procedure, which could ultimately land a parent in front of a judge.
Ok....I fully support “choice”. Give the rest of us the “choice” not to be FORCED to support godless and government socialist entitlement schools that trash the First Amendment.
( Geeze! And some government school defenders wonder why we get “testy” at times.)
I have no love for public school that is true. I also have no animosity for anyone that uses public school. Most of our youth group is public schooled. What I am trying to get at is this; if we were truly free to make the educational decisions for our children, the state should have no recourse no matter what we decide (with the exception of child abuse). If a parent wants to teach their child to be a farmer, painter, artist or a more traditional education that should be up to the parents. If I want to wait until my son is ten to start formal education that should be my choice. I shouldn’t have to report to the state on his progress. It is none of their business. No one should tell a parent when to start a formal education or what kind of education it should be.
Honey bun, getting **personal** now, aren't you?
Let's see? What # Alinsky point was that?
My screenname is an ironic inside joke, but when people are attacking your screenname it fairly indicates they have nothing left worth saying.
Mine got attacked early on in the debate but oh well. I assumed from your screenname that you are man. Is that a correct assumption? Your admission that it is a joke made me wonder.
Then it should be **simple** to prove that government schools are not godless, not a socialist entitlement, and not a First Amendment abomination.
And...Why the need for abbreviated obscenity? If my arguments are so worthless prove them wrong. Since my arguments have so little worth prove them wrong!
Prove that it is possible to have a religiously neutral government school.
Prove that children are not in danger of become acculturated to accepting socialism by attending socialist entitlement schools.
Prove that children are not in danger of becoming inured to government compulsion by attending schools that threaten PRISON! ( See the title of the article.)
Prove that government schools don't trash the plain words and meaning of the First Amendment.
You can call me anything you like - I was being polite.
I read the title, the article, and the thread (along with your many typical copy/paste comments) and still contend you are wrong. If a parent has chosen to enroll their child in that school district they have agreed to the terms of that enrollment. If they don’t agree they have other options, including homeschooling.
Your abject hatred of all things involving public schools (except when convenient to you) has tainted your thought processes to such an extent there is no talking rationally to you about the issue.
Trailerpark Badass could teach motorcycle repair...or maybe meth manufacturing. Bring your own O2 mask! "We don't need no stinkin' government telling us what to manufacture!"
christianhomeschoolmommaof3 can teach classes on how to evade the law, or maybe calling one thing another, or even flip-flopping...which she appears to be VERY good at (she was for throwing the kids out in the street before she was against it).
BradWesleyoftheInternet can hold a class on how homosexuals argue, since he claims knowledge in that particular area.
backwoods-engineer will taech a class on shredding the Constitution. "Now you see it! Now you don't."
trisham can give classes on public school dismantling. No (evil government) contractor's license required.
I'm sure it could become a model school in no time.
And for those who support the “choice” to use the godless and socialist schools in their counties, how convenient! They have an armed police force more than willing to collect the money to pay for their socialist entitlement “choice”, if their neighbor resists.
I see you have no arguments left.
You forgot to add the important point - where YOU live.
Sorry, but your personal situation is just that, your personal situation. You tend to forget that not everyone lives in the same educational hellhole (in your mind) as you do.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Personal personal! Tsk! Tsk!
Provide a link that proves that it isn't. Can you point to even one exception?
In my county, this **universal** practice caused all private schools to close. I am willing to bet that is the situation in many counties.
Our closest private school is a 50 minute drive.
I stole that actual name from someone on the old AR15 mailing list, but an old friend and I used to joke around over post-shift beers about building a N Georgia video poker and moonshine empire, and becoming a Trailerpark Kingpin.
Personally, I am about as upper-middle-class private-school country-club white-bread as it gets. I'm apparently somewhat handicapped by my lack of "real-world" public school "socialization."
That is funny. You were homeschooled? I don’t personally know any adults that were homeschooled.
Ok. I'll accept that....Then it should be **easy** for you to do the following:
Provide even one link where government owned and run K-12 schooling in the U.S. is not officially secular by law.
Please give one link to government owned and run K-12 schooling that is not a socialist entitlement.
Provide even one link to a government owned and run socialist K-12 school that does not trash the plain meaning of the First Amendment.
Now...Answer the question: How can godless, socialist, compulsory government schooling that trashes the First Amendment be “good” for our nation's children or for the future of our nation?
It's a very good one. The children pray regularly throughout the day. It's a glorious thing to witness!
The Red Queen would call that “choice” and so would her closest relative, “Big Brother”.
I need a Tylenol! I have an Orwellian headache.
Trailer park bad hineys are not supposed to know words like “puerile”. Don’t you know your place?
