I have no love for public school that is true. I also have no animosity for anyone that uses public school. Most of our youth group is public schooled. What I am trying to get at is this; if we were truly free to make the educational decisions for our children, the state should have no recourse no matter what we decide (with the exception of child abuse). If a parent wants to teach their child to be a farmer, painter, artist or a more traditional education that should be up to the parents. If I want to wait until my son is ten to start formal education that should be my choice. I shouldn’t have to report to the state on his progress. It is none of their business. No one should tell a parent when to start a formal education or what kind of education it should be.
We are actually on the same page, as I totally agree with you.
I tend to get a bit defensive because there are some home school supporters who actually believe that anyone who is not homeschooling is a child abuser. They fail to understand that many of us who have chosen to have our children attend public or private schools actually are very supportive of homeschooling.
People that denigrate us for our choice do nothing for their own choice. And vice versa. I applaud those of you who have chosen homeschooling, but I don’t think I should be denigrated because I didn’t.
