Why Newt's Surge Will Continue
American Thinker ^ | 11-17-2011 | C Edmund Wright

Posted on 11/17/2011 5:46:01 AM PST by C. Edmund Wright

Newt Gingrich's stumble out of the campaign gate -- causing him to lose his top advisors to Rick Perry -- might well be the best thing that has ever happened to his political career. That, along with his debate performances and a handful of other circumstances, explains why the former speaker of the House is now surging in the polls and why it is likely to continue.

This piece is NOT an endorsement of Newt per se - but rather an explanation of why he has surged - and why some others have stumbled. Newt's support has quadrupled in the past six weeks or so, and this is a glimpse into the mindset of those who have switched to his column for the time being.

Brother...

Quadrupled is nothing more than “I wanna support someone the MSM hasn’t attacked other than Romney”.

Fickle support like that will be gone at the first botched answer because those people have no fight, no patience, and really have no hard reason to be behind him.

He will never get the black vote no matter what he does. This will divide the nation even more than what Barry has done. They have destroyed Cain, who did have the backing of Mr. Savage, but when he says he is “done”, well the party’s over, time to throw out the pizza boxes. n/s

I don’t know. The fact that he took money from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is pretty damning. I’m not buying what politico is pushing but I also don’t buy Newt’s story that he just walked in and told them to stoip doing what they were doing and they paid him for that, either.

I’m sorry, I missed the part where we were discussing Newt and the black vote. I thought we were discussing why Newt has quadrupled his support in the past few weeks.

Newt’s sometimes RINOness aside, I think as president, he would tear the executive establishment asunder. Just as when he took over the House and got rid of the elevator operators and the guy delivering ice daily to representative’s offices, most of which had refrigerators.

If the House and Senate are solidly conservative, to disallow the tendency to go liberal, a la Nixon, Bush and
Bush, I could be happy with a Gingrich presidency. Cain would be a good VP nominee if he keeps tanking.

I’m still voting for Cain in the MA primary, but who knows who may be still standing by then.

You may be right about that, and the worst part of that story broke after this was written. Any scandal can unfold and totally change an existing dynamic in politics.

C Edmund is a fool.
They will prop up Newt, tear him down and be left with Romney only and then tear him down.

No matter who is left we better back over Obama or the country is GONE.

No republican candidate is going to get the majority of a ‘black vote’ as you call it —anyway! And who said Cain is out?? And who do you want as our candidate????

Thanks for the drive by comment. Dreaming has nothing to do with it. Newt has quadrupled his support in the past weeks. That has already happened. This piece merely gives opinions as to why that has happened.

Will it last? Short of scandal, I think it will. But Fannie may be the scandal. At any rate, his support has surged and there are reasons for it. This piece simply names them.

Part of the problem is that even though we have the devil incarnate sitting in the WH right now, we’re still demanding that our candidates be perfect angels, pure as the driven snow! And as soon as one rises to the top and he gets close enough for us to see his flaws we toss him back down to the bottom.

For one thing, Gingrich pioneered a denial of adultery that some observers would later christen “the Newt Defense”: Oral sex doesn’t count. In a revealing psychological portrait of the “inner” Gingrich that appeared in Vanity Fair (September 1995), Gail Sheehy uncovered a woman, Anne Manning, who had an affair in Washington in 1977 with a married Gingrich.

“We had oral sex,” Manning revealed. “He prefers that modus operandi because then he can say, ‘I never slept with her.’” She added that Gingrich threatened her: “If you ever tell anybody about this, I’ll say you’re lying.”

C Edmund, your heart’s in the right place. No question on that. However, underestimating the MSM and what their marching order is dangerous. Remember the interview with Christie where a couple days ago he warned us to not underestimate the machine? Chicago Machine is fully unleashed and Newt will surely be feverously attacked like Cain until Romney is left. Will I vote for Romney over Obama? You bet.

I won’t, however, give up so fast. I am not throwing in the towel on Newt, Cain or even Perry. Some part of me even thinks Palin is quiet for a reason. Not sure what that is, but perhaps a rescue trump card. Hang in there, but I think your piece is a little naive.
