For Mitt Romney this is like the good old days at Bain Capital, except this time his takeover involves not another company but the Republican Party. In fact, Romney is seeking a hostile takeover of the conservative movement, methodically moving to take over Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Rick Perry, Ron Paul, Rick Santorum and finally Newt Gingrich. Conservatives might remember what Romney did after he took over companies. You did not want to be a worker in a firm Romney took over. He liked layoffs.
I now expect Romney to move fast to the right for a few weeks while he buys stock in the Republican nomination. Once he owns a majority of shares, if he does, that is when he begins to sell his conservative positions, and start buying to his center and his left to get ready for Obama. Goodbye, conservative, hello, moderate, once the time is right for Mitt.
If Romney is elected, and Democrats either keep control of the Senate or win control of the House, Romney will head for Capitol Hill, sit down with Reid and Pelosi, and deal. In fact, even if Democrats lose the Senate but threaten filibusters, which they would, the Romney you will see then will look nothing like the conservative Mitt Romney you see today, and will look more like the moderate to liberal Mitt Romney who was governor.
Who would be the political equivalent of the workers Romney laid off when he took over companies? Of course, conservatives.
Las Vegas oddsmakers should have two betting pools. The first is who wins the election. The second, if Romney wins, is which Romney wins. I will take the weather-vane moderate and the points, haha.
Give Romney credit for this. He is good at what he does. He does takeovers. Workers learned this the hard way when Romney ran Bain. Conservatives will learn the hard way once Romney is nominated, if he is.
There might even be some conservatives who would rather take their chances with Obama for another term, rather than spending four or eight years being laid off by Romney if his takeover succeeds.
FUMR!!!
He told gays and abortionists in 2002 that he wanted to moderate the GOP. He meant it.
Where did they get the idea Mitt is fooling Conservatives? That is utterly stupid. He’s got his 20% and that’s it.
Where’s the vasoline?
This article didn’t deserve a barf alert. The author - a conservative - has illustrated what Romney is setting out to do.
To Slick Willard, conservatives are disposable. And we have no assurance that if elected, he would govern as a conservative President.
Mittens is too big a risk to the conservative movement to gamble on his fidelity.
We have been duly warned.
Ditto!
Why diss him?
He is right about Romney’s strategy. He’s out to sucker conservatives.
And then fire them the first chance he gets.
No one on our side should be a streetwalker for Mittens.
That says it all.
He is secretly Pro abortion, pro same sex marriage, pro embryonic stem cell research. If you really want to hear more about Mitt Romney, read: “Can Mitt Romney Serve Two Masters?” This guy will say anything to get votes!
The book tells the entire story of his pre-political and his political careers. He is as dangerous as Barack! But don’t take my word for it. Vet the guy, there is too much to lose to vote blindly!
If conservatives are that stupid to drop their principles and core convictions to service Pimp Romney, they shouldn’t complain when he sells them out later.
First off, a hostile take over of the Right by this boob is a joke. Flat in the polls Mittens at 25% says all you need to know about this so called take over. It ain’t happening, so why write like it is. Then the whole thing comparing Mittens strategery to that of his Bain days is strained. It was just plain odd and I stand by that impression. I don’t care what the writers intention was, it was lost on me.
Like HELL.
That is exactly what Romney trying to do. To take over GOP without conservatives’ blessings. In a hostile takeover, you don’t need friends, just convenient tools. And Mittens is no dummy when it comes to engineering a takeover.
And I would vote for Ubama before I would vote for Myth.
At least Ubama would be gridlocked.
Take over. Mitt keeps writing the checks and they endorse. Real simple.
Ping. It’s part of the Romney “inevitability” campaign. We can’t beat it so we might as well join it.
There are two other guys trying to fool conservatives—Perry and Gingrich.
Sorry. No sale.
