IF NOT ROMNEY, WHO? IF NOT NOW, WHEN?
November 16, 2011So now, apparently, we have to go through the cycle of the media pushing Newt Gingrich. This is going to be fantastic.
In addition to having an affair in the middle of Clinton's impeachment; apologizing to Jesse Jackson on behalf of J.C. Watts -- one of two black Republicans then in Congress - for having criticized "poverty pimps," and then inviting Jackson to a State of the Union address; cutting a global warming commercial with Nancy Pelosi; supporting George Soros' candidate Dede Scozzafava in a congressional special election; appearing in public with the Rev. Al Sharpton to promote nonspecific education reform; and calling Paul Ryan's plan to save Social Security "right-wing social engineering," we found out this week that Gingrich was a recipient of Freddie Mac political money.
(Even I will admit, however, that Newt was great when he was chairman of GOPAC back in the '90s with Gay Gaines at the helm.)
Although Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- the institutions most responsible for the nation's current financial crisis -- were almost entirely Democratic cash cows, they managed to dirty up enough Republicans to make it seem like bipartisan corruption.
Democrats sucked hundreds of millions of dollars out of these institutions: Franklin Raines, $90 million; Jamie Gorelick, $26.4 million; Jim Johnson, $20 million.
By contrast, Republicans came cheap. For the amazingly good price of only $300,000 apiece, Fannie and Freddie bought the good will of former Reps. Vin Weber, R-Minn., Susan Molinari, R-N.Y., and Newt Gingrich, R-Ga.* Former Sen. Alfonse D'Amato, R-N.Y., was even cheaper at $240,000.
[*Correction: After Gingrich admitted last week to receiving $300,000 from Freddie, we found out this week that it was actually closer to $1.6 million.]
So now conservatives shy away from denouncing these crooked organizations for fear of running into Vin Weber at a cocktail party.Sorry, guys -- on the plus side, you're millionaires, but on the downside, you've earned the contempt of your fellow man.
The mainstream media keep pushing alternatives to Mitt Romney not only because they are terrified of running against him, but also because they want to keep Republicans fighting, allowing Democrats to get a four-month jump on us.
Meanwhile, everyone knows the nominee is going to be Romney.
That's not so bad if you think the most important issues in this election are defeating Obama and repealing Obamacare.
So you are a Romney-phile.
Good luck with that. Conservatives can’t stand the guy.
Romney is the one Republican in the race I cannot vote for.
No, you don't. Conservatives are finally awakening from their Stockholm Syndrome trance and realizing that the RINO elite are just another wing of the progressive movement. Mitt is to the left of even most RINOs.
But you keep believing you are so much smarter, FRiend.
This “Occupy White House” movement in the Republican “Big Tent” reminds me of the sorority house pillow fight in the movie “Animal House.” Lots of beautiful people jumping around without a clue as to why they are “fighting.”
The basic issue is America’s terminal financial death spiral. The glitterati in the cocktail-political-party-on-dude segment of America are of no help to America now, and will not be in the future.
The question to be answered is as follows: “ WHEN WILL ALL OF THE THE US FEDERAL GOVERNMENT “ENTITLEMENT” PROGRAMS BE ABOLISHED?”
The question of “Should they be abolished?” has already been answered by the last two Presidents who have destroyed 4 TRILLION dollars EACH.
The glitteriti on the left, center and right will not join with us as we follow our leader into the gates of Hell to free America from the death grip of Socialism. We need not listen to them between now and then.
It's been rumored that you lurk at times. Don't go wobbly on us now. Good God, woman, I didn't think it possible but with this article you have now placed yourself to the LEFT of the the old dowager, Dame Peggy Noonan, who even herself has realized that This Is No Time For Moderation!
Such a brilliant writer and mind but with NO facility for choosing candidates. Oh, well. She’ll always be the Great Ann to me because I simply tune her out when it comes time for picking a candidate.
Just keep trashing the libs, Ann. Just trash ‘em.
(And we will pick the candidate.)
You missed Ann's point- That's when he was trying to trick liberals into voting for him. Since 2005, we have a new and improved Mitt trying to trick concervatives into voting for him. ;o)
“Jim, it is time for her to get the ZOT.”

I doubt that more than five out of a hundred in that set will stand with us when it really matters. Where will their voices be when real lives are on the line? It matters not. I know where ours will be.
LOL!
You trouble maker you! :-)
Ann Coulter a RINO...You know you’re off on the fringe when you think Ann Coulter is a RINO!
(Note: I’m not a huge fan of Ann, but RINO? I think not.)
It sad to see people posting from fear.
I don’t know what else would cause people to post some of the things they post.
She has been called a lesbien, a man, and that she now supports abortion and of all things homosexual marriage.
The GOProud homosexuals asked her to advise them, so she did.
She explained to them how wrong it was for them to support homos getting married, and they took it off of their agenda.
Some of the posts on this thread I had to have the mods remove, they were so vile. Some posters are so intimidated by her (a 95 lb blonde lol) that they want her banned from Free Republic!
Of course the one issue type cranky birthers really hate her. They think she doesn’t support the constitution because she doesn’t spend a large part of her time fighting the Obama eligibility issue.
It is to Hunter’s credit that he is strong on border control.
But true immigration reform must address legal immigration as well, and conservative reform of legal immigration means reducing legal immigration. Hunter may support that, but Tancredo actually sponsored legislation (that shamefully went nowhere in a GOP congress) to do it, and Thompson’s plan called for abolishing the Diversity Visa and ending chain migration. I’m not aware of any of the current crop of candidates calling for any of that. All of the top-tier candidates seem to be worthless when it comes to a conservative, comprehensive reform of immigration. And that is tragic since w/o it the GOP will be demographically buried in the next few decades.
That thought is almost as naive as believing Mitt Romney will convert to conservatism one he has a more conservative constituency.
I don’t want a 100% liberal, so I’ll vote for whomever the GOP nominee is going against Obama because that person is the only one that can beat Obama, not a 3rd party candidate.
We can all play these games. If Romney is the GOP nominee, you have two choices.
1) Vote for Romney (hold your nose, do whatever)
2) Don’t for for Romney. Vote for Obama, vote for a 3rd party candidate, vote for Mickey Mouse, don’t vote....as long as it isn’t Romney.
In choice 1, if he is successful he can bounce Obama out of office.
In choice 2, you get four more years of the most liberal President we have ever seen. Slavery reparations are probably next on his agenda, along with a number of other insane ideas.
I’ll go with #1, even if he isn’t “conservative enough”
Moot point, Obama will crush Romney.
Focus on the Senate and the House.
Show me a politician that hasn’t been a “trickster” or hasn’t flip flopped or hasn’t been “true to his core”. One hasn’t lived, because they don’t exist.
Amen. Exactly how I feel. I’ll hold my nose, but I will vote for Romney well before I vote AGAINST Romney (i.e. a vote for Obama, a vote for 3rd party or not vote).
The Supreme Court argument is one of many reasons
That sounds like the prelude to a long, drawn out justification for Romney's many transgressions against the conservative right. Go ahead and post it, if you dare. You know you want to.
And he's still nowhere to being a "60% conservative", as you claimed.
Well said
