Why Newt Gingrich won’t last
Washington Post ^ | November 15, 2011 | Dana Milbank

Posted on 11/16/2011 3:23:30 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

....The public got a taste of Gingrich’s relative moderation in May, when he disparaged PaulRyan’s budget plan, which House Republicans embraced en masse, as “right-wing social engineering” and “too big a jump.” He quickly retreated from this inadvertent honesty, uttered in the same “Meet the Press” interview when he defended his previous support for an “individual mandate” requiring health insurance — the part of Obamacare that conservatives find most objectionable.

...In 2005, he sat down with then-Sen.HillaryClinton to make common cause over health care. He said he and Clinton “have the same instinct” on health care and praised the notion of a health-care “transfer of finances” from rich to poor. “I risk sounding not quite as right wing as I should,” Gingrich said at the time. “I’ve spent enough of my life fighting,” he added.

In 2007, Gingrich appeared with JohnKerry and conceded that humans have contributed to global warming, saying, “We should address it very actively.” He complained about “the absence of American leadership” on climate change, pitched incentives to reduce carbon emissions and said: “I am not automatically saying that coercion and bureaucracy is not an answer.” Gingrich called for a “green conservatism.”

In 2009, Gingrich met in the OvalOffice with President Obama and the Rev.AlSharpton and emerged to proclaim that “education should be the first civil right of the 21st century.” Soon after that, he appeared on Capitol Hill with BillClinton and Trent Lott for an unveiling of the former Senate majority leader’s portrait, lamenting that “we wasted so much energy with controversy when we could get so many more things done.”

At one point during his dalliance with the Democratic establishment, Gingrich joked that “one can gradually rebuild almost any reputation if you pander enough to the authorities that write columns and show up on TV.”....

Bolded emphasis mine.

When I listen to Newt I hear, "I'm the smartest man in the room." Newt likes ideas and quickly gloms on to and promotes many ideas but as we have seen he's all over the map. Who is this man?

[Newt Gingrich] received a B.A. in history from Emory University in Atlanta in 1965. He received an M.A. in 1968, and then a PhD in modern European history from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1971. His dissertation was entitled "Belgian Education Policy in the Congo: 1945–1960".

Newt is 68 years old and married to his third wife, Callista Bisek, his former House of Representatives staffer 23 years his junior.

Gingrich has authored or co-authored 17 non-fiction books since 1982. Newt Gingrich

NOOT lacks conservative principles, has the attention span of a fruit fly and is a serial adulterer.

Three reasons why NOOT won’t last.

Should he be the nominee, I’ll vote for him. However, he would make a much better press or cabinet secretary.

Why Newt Gingrich won’t last

OK, so we're back to Cain unless by some miracle Palin comes back.

Cain needs to add understanding, insight, and "spotlight" training to his gut-level love for America and freedom. I also think there's a problem with his team. Cain needs to know when to listen to his handlers (understand and anticipate the issues) and when not to listen (being candid and his good-natured self while able to substantively and effectively discuss the relevant issues - NOT "canned" answers).

So should we get into a pissing contest comparing Newt's deviations from conservatism versus Perry's?

Neither will look good when that is done, but Newt will at least hold the advantage of being able to get through a debate without a Youtube misstep moment. Is that really the smartest hill to fight on, with you being FR's leading Perry promoter?

If Newt wins the nomination, we’ll vote for him but the country will have missed a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Newt has his baggage. But he’s nowhere near the RINO your pro-ILLEGAL alien hero Mitt Perry is.

Not surprising, really, when the Perry’s campaign strategy of ‘tear down the other guy to make me look better’ cascades down to his cronies. Modus operandi from the beginning.

Compared to Rick Perry, the Speaker has won each
debate (or tied with Mr. Cain) AND sounds coherent.

We know that the media are playing their usual game of trying to select our candidates. That’s what lib. Dana Milbank of the Washington ComPost is doing, because they want Romney to be the nominee.

No matter who’s under consideration, it’s just too darn early and things change too quickly and too often to predict a winner.

Even Kreskin would find it a daunting proposition.

Has Newt started an affair with wife number four yet? He has quite a record to stand on.

So, Newt is your candidate. And a fine debater he is. A good debater must be ready to debate either side of an issue. It's how students practice -- handed a side and defend it regardless of how you stand on the issue. Now Newt has had almost 40 years to hone that skill both in words and deeds.

If you like Newt, you'll love Mitt (such irony, Mitt the Mormon, with one wife).

LOL
They will give it their best shot.
Newt has way too much baggage, MSM would love for him to get the nomination. They are salivating waiting on him. . .

On one thread Rick Santorum is supposed to be the new George Washington. Now Newt Gingrich is the new Winston Churchill. Obama has been compared to Abraham Lincoln. Why do people insist on denigrating these towering figures from our history by linking them to much lesser current day politicians?

No, Newt is not the next Winston Churchill. He's the current Newt Gingrich. Same with Santorum and Obama. Support them or don't, but do it based on who they are and not who we would like them to be.
