Didn't know about the ‘boys’ locker room; didn't care. But now that I'm an adult I believe it was a crack in the door to impose this on Jr high/High Schools students designed to break down the natural modesty that exists in the majority of children. One of the tools of the left at the beginning of this slide into decadence.
A point about boys’ locker room protocal: It was ONLY the team members who were in the showers. The coaches, including asst coaches, NEVER undressed around the boys, or hung around for the showers. They were in their offices, or they had their own showers, or they went home in their coach garb, but they NEVER undressed or hung around the undressed boys.
NEVER. In my experience.
I don’t know. Going back to my childhood, the message I got from my dad was it was ok to “be naked” with others of the same sex, but not in mixed company. Massages were to be done by a member of the same sex. Skinny dipping was done in male company. This, I think, was the attitude with the YMCA, because as gay as they looked, I didn’t think all of those old men could be queer.
That’s changed. Men don’t want to be naked around other men because it isn’t safe - you don’t know who’s a f-ing homo. It’s very hard for men even to be friends with one another without being concerned about “looking gay.” This f-ing gay-ok culture has largely robbed men of the ability to have non-sexual intimate friendships with other men.
