He's the model citizen, the guy you want your daughter to date, yet Tim Tebow can't help being the most polarizing figure in all of professional sports.
And during the upcoming holiday shopping season, Tebow is going to get even more controversial -- once again without any action on his part.
A handful of Denver fans have decided a customized Tim Tebow jersey would make for the perfect Christmas gift. What could possibly be troubling about that? A whole lot, depending on who you ask.
Rather than have the last name "Tebow" on the back of the Broncos jersey, these fans have placed "Jesus" above Tebow's No. 15.
Not everyone thinks it's appropriate. Some fans told CNN (via KTVQ) that the new custom apparel is blasphemous.
"Sports is one thing, and Jesus is another thing," Traci Yown, a mom Christmas shopping for her son told the network. "I like to have their names, their last names on the jerseys. I'm a Christian, but I mean I wouldn't want people going around having Jesus on the back of their jerseys."

where did he get that idea?
I am not calling for violence or state interference, rather I am calling those who call themselves Christian to act according to their Lord's revealed will. Christians would so well to "freak out" every time they hear a movie blaspheme, or a coworker use our Lord's name or unique attributes in a manner unfitting for His glory; it has to do with worship and reverence. If Christians won't revere and sanctify the name of the Lord, we have become the world and the light is not in us.
: )
Hate to be the one to tell ya... but there has already been a jersey with the messiah's name on it--
And the number is 12... not 15.
"Polarizing" is one of those terms, like "controversial" where the media get to redefine societal norms. A couple of years ago, a belief that (for example) marriage should be between a man and a woman would never be labeled "controversial." Now it is.
Even Chuck Norris wears Roger Staubach footy pajamas:-)
We do agree it is bad taste— I would not consider such -and I imagine if Tebow were asked —if he hasn’t been —he would likewise agree it is bad taste. But there is a lot of that going around.I find the jersey less offensive than someone who attempts to use Scripture to oppose the cause of religion—i.e. the atheist who cites the Levitical law against mixing two different types of cloth totally out of context as justification for ignoring Scripture.
Very well thought out post. Thanks.
