In an interview on the 90 Minutes television program, Abu Ismail said he supported what he called Islamic dress for women, meaning the hijab, or veil. Asked about what would happen to a woman wearing a bikini on the beach, he responded, she would be arrested.
Days later, he went on the Biladna Bil Masr program and lashed out at the shows popular TV host, Reem Maged, and all other unveiled women in the country. He declared al-tabarouj (the failure to cover ones hair and of wearing makeup) a mortal sin and said he would make such actions criminal, citing his interpretation of Islamic law.
He told Maged he wouldnt have agreed to the interview at all because of her dress but said that in politics things are different and he has to meet with people from all walks of life.
To underscore his point, a Facebook-based Salafist news outlet re-aired the interviewwith Mageds head and face covered by a dark filter to veil her.
I desire for you what I desire for my sister, and I admire your courage during the January revolution and I wish the next time we meet, things will be different, Abu Ismail told his host inviting her to cover her hair.
Around 12% of Egypts population are Coptic Christians and do not veil. Nor do a small percentage of Muslim women in the country. But even among those who are veiled, Abu Ismails comments have left many worried about the rising power of the Islamists in the country.

Agreed!
Wow! Tuff Choice!!
islam: Whatever the subject, we get it wrong
That’s going to close down a lot of resorts. Although, I am sure most of them are probably already closed anyhow.
Just suppose for a minute that women were in charge and made this particular piece of Islamic slime wear a hood over his face and a blanket during the summer.
Can you wonder how he would feel about that?
Islamic women seem to take things like this in their stride, perhaps because of the pre-conditioning of their upbringing, but wearing a Burka all the time must be frustrating.
Well, it’s the new Egypt and evidently it’s what they want, soon they will be in France and England demanding the same thing, then the US. Islam is growing, gaining strength, coming to a country near you.
DONTCHA JUST LOVE BLONDES!
Where is NOW and other progressive women’s organizations when it comes to Muslim dress requirements for women?
There was a time series of photos I saw posted here once. It showed students posed for a group at an Egyptian University. The first was from the 50’s and not of the women pictured had their hair covered. Over time that changed and by 2000, all the women were covered.
I’m a fan of modesty but this is not progress.

News Flash: Islamic Progressives Lobby to have Scimitar Replaced by Guillotine!
Sheesh. The muzzies must lack any self-control what so ever if a just patch of bare female skin drives them into a frenzy.
I worked in Egypt in the early 70's and you could buy beer, wine and spirits in any hotel bar. Women wore western dress on the street and we were still welcome to come as tourist and workers.
America was viewed as a strong country to be admired. This stopped after Nam. We have now become the country to disrespect because there is no consequence to that action.
One or two cities turned to glass would have a major educational benefit in the region.
Talk like this will not win the radicals any female votes in the coming elections. In the end this may be a good thing as it cuts down on the chance of Egypt swinging into the radical camp. Islam, and the Koran, say nothing about veils and Burkas, it just says women should dress modestly—but never really defines the term. Egypt, the land that gave us Belly Dancing will not swing this far. But, I could be wrong. Egypt is an Odd man out when it comes to the Muslem world. They think and act differently than many of their fellow Islamic peoples. Fact: Most all of the comedians in the Middle East are from Egypt? So are many actors.
“But even among those who are veiled, Abu Ismails comments have left many worried about the rising power of the Islamists in the country.”
A little late for that now.
Coming to an “Arab Spring” country (or part of your OWN country) near you.
Boot ‘em out before they reach critical mass in our own midst.
My, how unexpected. It is such a surprise that the Arab Spring led to this.
Wow, those 4 girls are gorgeous...
The 4 dressed in white :^)
You’re not surprised by that, are you?
