Washington (CNN) A new national survey of Republicans indicates that it's basically all tied up between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich in the race for the GOP presidential nomination, with Gingrich on the rise and businessman Herman Cain falling due to the sexual harassment allegations he's been facing the past two weeks.
According to a CNN/ORC International Poll released Monday, 24% of Republicans and independents who lean towards the GOP say Romney is their most likely choice for their party's presidential nominee with Gingrich at 22%. Romney's two-point advantage is well within the survey's sampling error.
While the level of support has pretty much stayed the same for Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who's making his second bid for the White House, Gingrich has seen his support jump 14 points since October.
The poll also indicates that 14 percent back Cain, down 11 points from last month. Four women have alleged that Cain sexually harassed them during the late 1990s when he headed the National Restaurant Association. Cain denies the allegations.
"Cain is struggling with the charges of sexual harassment, and while most Republicans tend to dismiss those charges, roughly four in 10 Republicans think this is a serious matter and tend to believe the women who made those charges," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said.
The survey indicates that only a bare majority of Republicans tend to believe Cain, and more than a third say he should end his presidential campaign. Among the general public, Cain has a bigger credibility problem - 50% of all Americans say they tend to believe the women and only a third say they believe Cain.
"Not surprisingly, there is a big gender gap on this matter - women say this is a serious matter and believe the women,

>>It seems that the Cain Supporters screwed up. <<
Oh for heaven’s sake. Cain’s supporters?
EVERY candidate’s supporters have attacked. In all of history, this has happened. It hasn’t been all nice/nice in the history of our country.
When I supported Bachmann, Palin people attacked me.
When I moved on to Perry, Palin people AND Bachmann people attacked me.
I like Cain and I like Newt. I’ve had people attack me from ALL the camps. The only person we all agree on is Mitt.
Personally, I would be thrilled with just about anyone over Obama.
They are not going to elect McCain 2.0 in 2012
Ok, then the GOP is finished.
They are not going to elect McCain 2.0 in 2012
If they hammered Palin on quitting the Governorship of Alaska, they can nail Newt for quitting his congressional seat, right after being re-elected.

FOFLMAO......
After reading the polls at the Praise Cain church like threads this morning, I am dying to see how they will spin this one... too funny.
All of these polls are hogwash.... even the ones that I like. LOL
NOW THIS is very good news!
As much as I like Herman Cain, I don’t think he is qualified to be president. I don’t think it’s the attack of the left that has hurt him so much as some of his weak responses.
In the “debate” he had with Newt, there was one question asked of him and he just thought for a few seconds and then said he would leave that one up to Newt to answer. That got a laugh, but Newt immediately had a sound answer which he presented very well.
It was this moment that solidified my opinion that it’s not a good idea to put someone with questionable qualifications in the White House. That has been proven these past three years. It’s a shame that Newt has so much in his past. He sounds like such a good choice otherwise.
I don’t either. This is just a public opinion poll, specifically designed to make front page headlines, to shape public opinion.
I never believe anything that the Dem’s Parasite Party Polling firm puts out, even it said that Sarah Palin could jump in the race right now and get 100% of the vote.
You might want to hold your victory dance. Newt’s turn in the smear machine cross hairs comes now.
Don’t expect anyone to help you people defend him. You thought it was so cleaver to help smear Cain. Very well, Let see how you all deal with such tactics
Yeeee Haaaaa....
Go Newt Go......
If a poll disputes what I think then it is an obvious faulty poll....

RE: They are not going to elect McCain 2.0 in 2012
Who is McCain 2.0 in 2012 anyway?
I wish freepers would back up and stick with best candidate and quit hopping around at the whim of liberal polls. Seems like folks are going down the list and switching each week. Well have Santorum supporters here in a months time.
You never made a single rational factual post against Cain. Instead you have recklessly engaged in smear, personal attack and accusation at Cain.
Don't you DARE have the childish arrogance to project YOUR tactics onto the Cain people.
I know what you mean.... I can’t stand polls that I don’t like either. I think it’s normal. LOL
Go Newt Go......
They will say he shut down the government to confront out of control spending and he said that we needed to reform medicare so it would no longer be necessary for people and spending for it would eventually "wither on the vine". In the 1990s, this sort of talk passed for crazy right wing rhetoric. Now people might be more inclined to say "whoa, wish we'd have listened to him back then!"
Oh yeah, he's divorced a couple of times. That too.
This dance is likely going to continue until next summer. If no candidate has enough to clinch going into the convention on the first ballot, then we’ll see someone who isn’t presently running introduced on the second ballot who will then take the nomination by the third of fourth ballot. Mark my words.
