A felon once imprisoned for fraud is raising money in the name of Herman Cain and profiting off of it through a company he owns. It is the second group raising large amounts of Cain cash that has a history of collecting millions of dollars through politically charged mailings and spending hardly any of it on politics.

Draft Herman Cain is the latest from two California men who have raised tens of millions of dollars cashing in on causes such as breast cancer and illegal immigration, with little to show for it except payments to fundraisers and themselves, an analysis by The Washington Times shows.

There was a legitimate group called “Draft Cain” that was a grassroots group started by Maurice Atkinson here in GA - and it grew to groups across the country. However, after Cain announced, they changed their name to Elect Cain - and were not involved in fundraising, only in organizing volunteers for the events.

Cain is just the latest excuse. The are the same people who drained all the blood out of the Minuteman movement.

There are legitimate groups like Americans For Cain, who do run real ads to support the candidiate. But this group, which includes Gary Kreep and Phil Sheldon, were the same ones who singlehandedly destroyed the Minutemen by raising millions ostensibly for a border fence, and pocketed 95% of it.

HOW CAN YOU AVOID THESE SCAMMERS? Simple: Do not EVER give a donation to anything where the URL says "conservativedonations.com" in it. This is the handiwork of Sheldon and his Diener Consulting group that (with Kreep) wrecked the Minutemen and sucked dry many other causes. Kreep has also raked in millions from the birther issue. They are bottom-feeders.

Here are the groups to avoid. Do not under any cicumstances give to any of these groups:

I don’t give except to the campaigns...but I do get any number of calls...I haven’t given 1 rec cent to any of them over the phone...but I’ll keep you list handy for screening...and tell them to get my name off their call lists.

Not a good rule. Sometimes 'disconnected' groups (they can't legally 'coordinate' w a candidate but have a common goal) do a better job. "Americans for Cain" is coming out with some great stuff this week, while Cain himself hasn't put out any good ads yet, while he ramps up. Those PAC or 527 ads can be of critical assistance to a candidate.

‘Sucker’ list? About $300,000 went to Diener Consultants, a Pennsylvania firm without a working phone, to obtain a list of “reliable donors.” The names on Diener’s lists appear to be easy pickings for anyone who sends a tea party-themed mailer. Diener’s other major client, AmeriPAC, raised $4 million last election cycle, nearly all of which went to the consultant, Political Advertising and PAC officials. AmeriPAC donated $49,000 to candidates and ran $27,000 worth of ads. Diener also has done work for a smattering of committees connected to former presidential candidate Alan Keyes, such as the Minutemen Alliance, which have raised millions of dollars with little to no money spent toward effective political ends. Mr. Goodwin denied any connection between the Justice Foundation and the Minutemen groups, but The Times obtained joint fundraising solicitations between the foundation and the Minutemen.

That’s why if you’re gonna give to a candidate, make sure you’re giving DIRECTLY to his or her campaign organization, not some group fundraising ‘for’ the candidate.

Yep. Diener and the Keyes Mafia have been around for a long time. I didn’t know that Gary Kreep and the US Justice Foundation are part of the same funds-draining network, however.

If you were only a headline reader and not into in-depth political analysis, you are supposed to draw the incorrect conclusion that Herman Cain's LEGITIMATE fundraisers are not getting much money. That was my first impression, contradicting everything else I've heard. But not everyone has heard something else. The headline conceals the fact that the article is a warning about frauds from which Cain is getting NO money and has nothing whatever to do with. I understand this is the Times and not WaPo. So I must think Romney, Romney, Romney...
