The great euro Putsch rolls on as two democracies fall
The Telegraph ^ | 11/13/2011 | Ambrose Evans-Pritchard

Europe’s scorched-earth policies have begun in earnest. The inherent flaws of monetary union have created a crisis of such gravity that EU leaders now feel authorized to topple two elected governments.

As I long feared, the flood of cheap credit into Southern Europe and the slow death of Club Med industry by currency asphyxiation have together created such a dangerous situation for world finance that informed opinion is willing to turn a blind eye to EU sovereign trespass. Some even applaud.

The Greeks were ordered to drop their referendum on measures that reduce their country to a sort of Manchukuo, with EU commissars "on the ground", installed in each ministry, drawing up lists of state assets to be liquidated to pay foreign creditors.

Europe had the monetary and fiscal means to contain the EMU debt crisis long enough for Greeks to give or withhold their crucial assent to this ultimatum in December.

It chose - under German-Dutch pressure - not deploy those means. Instead it forced Greece to capitulate by cutting off an agreed loan payment.

In Italy, the European Central Bank has engineered the downfall of Silvio Berlusconi by playing the bond markets, switching purchases on and off to enforce compliance with its written dictates ("La Lettera"), and ultimately allowing 10-year yields to spike to 7.45pc to drive him out.

Europe’s president Herman Van Rompuy swooped in to Rome to clinch the Putsch. "Italy needs reforms not elections," he said.

We are not that far from use of EU judicial coercion, and then EU police power, and ultimately EU "border troops" - for those old enough to remember Soviet methods of fraternal assistance.

Chancellor Angela Merkel tells us that peace in Europe can no longer be taken for granted, and she is right. Her own

There are forces who hate democracy and they’re not all Islamofascists. I suspect Soros is involved in the background here somewhere.

>> We can learn from that when we indiscriminately bash the Fed (central bank) and its monetary “policies”. <<

.
The Fed is an arm of European Old Wealth, not U.S. power.

The TARP money mostly shored up European institutions.

Soros’ knee, like all the others, bows to the Roth Schild (Red Shield).

Yeah...and that will end well. Let’s go ahead and make the Germans feel all repressed. That always turns out well.

We were taking over the Philippines ~ Cuba, Puerto Rico, etc.

I think the government considered debt collection a sacred duty and approved of what the Europeans were doing to Argentina.

We all know the bigger the government organization of power, the more abusive is that power. What were we thinking when the elite hatched economic globalism?????

It’s a global economic engine with all the train cars praying they won’t derail. As it derails the globalist elite will try to impose a “strong” centralized power structure for themselves and their pals to use in enslaving the whole world.

Pretty soon we will be hearing from our European resistence friends, “send lawyers, guns and money!” The countries of Europe don’t want to live under the boot of an EU dictatorship!

And how are these 'commissars' actually *MAKING* the Greeks do anything? Do they have mystic mind-control powers that brainwash Greeks at a distance? It's one guy in one office... and if no one listened to him, the Greeks would do nothing.

All the EU can do is cut off Greece's money 'fix'. For Greece is an debt addict, spending more than they take in. And *GREECE* finds that it's in their best interest to keep getting their regular fix of easy money.

No one has forced the Greek nation or it's people to do anything.

"It would seem that more sovereignty in those countries could have been attained by turning away from socialism"

Sovereignty is out in Europe.

All the socialist countries knew what they were agreeing to when they signed the Lisbon Treaty, the grand unification, Ein Volk.

AEP only suggests, though he repeatedly says it won't happen, QE to avoid (global?) fiscal and civil calamity.

They will give them nice camps to live in, uniforms and arm bands and badges so that they can be identified.

Sorry, but the EU was co-founded by France, the Netherlands, Balgium, Luxemburg, Italy and West Germany, when they decided to pool their coal and steel resources in the face of threat posed by the Soviet bloc.

That's the story according to the elites; if Americans are going to start believing elites, then they certainly have lost their character. The facts are quite different from the elites' story. The EU is Germany's baby; maybe you should read the treaties about it, especially the Treaty of Lisbon, which clearly illustrates the German character. (Why would the European Central Bank be on German soil, after all? And why is it necessary to impose the Soziale Marktwirtschaft by treaty? because it's in there.)

I see you don't have a shred of evidence to support your position. Tell us just how there was a logical progression for Greece to now have an appointed prime minister? or even worse, Italy also not only having an appointed prime minister but also a completely appointed government with all the powers, with the elected government utterly sidelined? Why are all these commissars even in existence?? And why do you keep refusing to listen to the facts concerning the "bailouts"—to wit that not a single country that now received them wanted bailouts in the first place, and that these are actually not bailouts but loans? (so don't call them "fixes", please. You ever heard of coercive lending?)

WADR, you are sounding like you are against the republican form of government and are in favor of technocratic authoritarianism. Not only that, but you are also in favor of the social market and against the free market. Neither position is in accord with US conservative principles.

And you've yet to show how the Germans *MADE* the Greeks and the Italians do anything. It should be easy to show Germany's use of force.

And physical force is the *ONLY* way you can *MAKE* anyone do anything.

Oh? So you would need to be physically forced into paying a speeding ticket if you get one? If a cop intends to pull you over, you would have to be forced off the road physically and won't stop your car until he does something like use tire spikes or a PIT maneuver? If that's how you see things, then you have a very narrow way of viewing things. I guess things like economic blackmail (e.g. "you don't take these loans, we impose economic blockade on you and you can't get to trade with the rest of the eurozone bloc, wrecking your economy still further") don't enter your worldview. You're a very interesting person, to say the least . . .

If I didn't want to comply badly enough, yes.

Or have you never seen how cops have to pit fleeing criminals? That is proof enough that the police cannot force someone to do anything without actual force being applied.

Now, for me, my rational self-interest would tell me that it's not worth trying it. But that's *ME* deciding that I should do what the police say. Not the police, *ME*.

What did you expect when you abdicated your sovereignty to the eurocrat socialists in Brussels?? You sold your soul, and now payment is coming due.

Why wouldn't you want to comply with the law? And what does this have to do with the fact that there are other ways to get people to do what one wants without physical force?

Yes and yes.

The states are whores. They have abdicated in order to suck at the teat of Washington, DC.

DC didn't simply take it, the states gave it up like crack whores, and now they are incapable of fending for themselves. Just give us another fix Oh Great and Powerful One. And you can sodomize us as much as you wish.
