Taking a page from Ronald Reagan, Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Saturday sought to use humor to rebound from his much-noted debate flub earlier in the week. That flub, a 53-second brain freeze that was replayed endlessly on news shows, had him forgetting the name of the Department of Energy, the third federal agency he pledges to eliminate.
So Perry was quick to cut off CBS Scott Pelley, one of the debate moderators in South Carolina, when he began a question, saying, Governor Perry, you advocate the elimination of the Department of Energy. If you eliminate the Department of Energy...
I'm glad you remembered it, interjected Perry with a big smile as the audience broke into applause and laughter. Pelley responded, I've had some time to think about it, sir. And Perry shot back again to even more laughter, Me, too.
Far from being uptight after his earlier stumble, Perry was loose even before the debate. Backstage before the TV lights came on, Perry said to fellow candidate Rick Santorum, So tonight if I need a lifeline, I'm just gonna look to you, OK?
Santorum laughed and offered to fill in the blanks for the Texan. The two men then high-fived each other. At that point, they laughed about Rep. Ron Paul telling Perry after the Michigan debate that everybody has that happen, most people just don't do it in front of four million people. In South Carolina, Paul laughed and told Santorum, I was trying to make him feel better.
Perrys use of humor was reminiscent of Reagans rebound in 1984 after the then-president's performance in that year's first presidential debate with Democratic nominee Walter F. Mondale raised questions about whether age had dulled Reagan's mental quickness. At the second debate, Reagan was ready when he question came up. I will not make age an issue in this campaign," he said. "I'm not going to exploit for political purposes my opponent's youth and inexperience. The lasting image from that debate is Mondale laughing heartily at the joke at his expense. And the question of Reagans age was put to rest for the campaign.
That should end his career as a reporter!....after all...the journalists are constantly telling the world some politicians career is over because of some SNAFU.....Should work in both directions!
With Rick out of the Presidential picture, he will be able to work on more important things like enticing even more illegals to move to Texas. His buddies at Bob Perry Homebuilders and Pilgrim's Pride Poultry need more cheap labor.
Since the fangirls love his sense of humor, maybe Perry can bring back “Hee Haw” after he drops out of the race.
I have the feeling that if Perry were to win the nomination and became president he, like Obummer, will resort to a teleprompter. They are both dumb like rocks.
Disclosure reports show that neither Bob Perry [Perry Homes/home builder] nor his wife have donated to Rick Perry's presidential bid. Bob Perry has given money to other candidates but not to Rick Perry. The biggest recipient is Mitt Romney. Bob Perry and his wife gave a combined $5,000 to Romney's early this year and $500,000 to the super PAC Restore Our Future that supports Romney.
In 2008, they supported Romney's nomination with a $5,000 donation between them. According to disclosure reports Gov Tim Pawlenty received a combined $10,000 to his presidential campaign and another $60,000 to his political action committee from Bob Perry and his wife. Bob Perry is also the top donor to the Karl Rove-linked super PAC American Crossroads.

Donors to Bush absent for Perry [9-1 support Romney] WASHINGTON Fewer than one in 10 of the top fundraisers who helped George W. Bush shatter records for presidential campaign money in 2000 and 2004 have donated to Texas Gov. Rick Perrys 2012 presidential campaign, a Houston Chronicle analysis of Federal Election Commission data has found.
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney holds a wide lead over other GOP presidential hopefuls in donations received from the 939 Pioneers and Rangers who raised at least $100,000 each for the Bush presidential efforts.
Romney has received 148 donations totaling $351,250 from Bushs top money people, compared with Perrys 87 contributions worth $213,000 and former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlentys 47 donations for $102,867."......

Kay Bailey Hutchison wont endorse Rick Perry for president
ROVE-BUSH-HUTCHISON ran a 2010 GOP primary challenge against Gov. Rick Perry.
To his credit; Perry did very well in the Debate last night. I’m still going to be as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs if he has to debate Obama.
YUP>!
Don’t you think Pelley looks like Beavis of Beavis and Butthead fame; for real?
Obama will be too.
In Tex Gov races, Perry has looked dead in the water more than once, only to surprise the likes of KBH and dim white by winning AGAIN.
Found amusing you posting “PLEASE SARAH, RECONSIDER” shortly before you post comparing CW to Jap holdouts after WW2.
Speaking of Sarah Palin.
Has she pronounced yet on last night’s efforts by the candidates?
CW would have made a great Texan. After the fall of the Alamo Texas was done yet within week Sam Houston drew out Santa Anna's army, burned the bridge behind him and won the war in 18 minutes. From that we got 5 states.
Cw is a warrior who believes in her candidate not some flake who jumps from candidate to candidate as the poll numbers fluctuate.
You will find that is the case with most Rick Perry supporters.
Cain is smart enough to know that he cannot be an expert on every segment of being the President. No one can, but many are surely pretending, such as Romney.
That is what ADVISORS are for. Cain was very clear about using the Generals. Something that Barry the Imposter seems to make a puppet show of asking them their opinion & then doing the opposite.
Generals asked for a minimum of 40,000 soldiers to operate the big surge & Barry gives them 30,000. Generals don’t want to leave Afghanistan until mid winter of 2012-—IF THEN— & Barry makes a big show for himself telling the opposition troops that he will pull ut our resources in late summer.
Barry is pandering for votes in November at the risk of more military lives & in the face of the lost lives already squandered in Afghanistan.
Tribal mentalities will turn on their ‘friends’ or ‘enemys’ in a heartbeat. They are rattlesnakes wearing robes & wrapped up heads.
Santorum pleading to ‘make nice’ with Pakistan because they have nuclear weapons was disgusting.
Overrun them & take their weapons.....No country can ever ‘make nice’ with Pakistan. They are double dealing everyone they talk to on any topic, IMO.
Watching Rick Perry on the debate stage is like watching Mike Tyson on Jeopardy.
He is a drag on the rest of the real candidates including Michelle and Santorum.
I disagree with that statement 100%
I DONT CARE that Cain is inexperienced- I am thinking he will be all that much more shoocked at the waste he sees if he is elected.
The people with experience are the ones that got us into this mess. Clean them all out and replace them all with people who will go “WTF????”
hahahaha
Actually, whomever you do vote for, you’ll be voting for their advisers as well, since it’s the president that appoints them.
Foreign affairs has always been a weak point of the US government.
