Former Pittsburgh Steelers running back and Penn State alum Franco Harris blasted the school's Board of Trustees for its decision to fire Joe Paterno and defended Mike McQueary, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
"I feel that the board made a bad decision in letting Joe Paterno go," Harris told the Tribune-Review's Kevin Gorman. "I'm very disappointed in their decision. I thought they showed no courage, not to back someone who really needed it at the time. They were saying the football program under Joe was at fault.
"They really wouldn't give a reason. They're linking the football program to the scandal and, possibly, the cover-up. That's very disturbing to me.

“Franco Harris was married - the last time I heard - and ran as a Republican in Pennsylvania”
I’m sorry you’re wrong on this. You’re confusing Lynn Swan with Harris. Harris is a huge liberal lefty & Democratic supporter.
Why smear Fraco Harris, idiot?

I know. See the rest of the thread.
I did see that....excellent!
I’ve been mulling over this weird sentiment that JoePa somehow was supposed to be thinking “golly gee, if I call the police, this might be considered hearsay during court proceedings and not admissable as evidence...”
Hearsay or not-hearsay wouldn’t matter one whit if you can FIND THE VICTIM.
Even one day after the rape ...IF YOU FIND THE VICTIM....you can get him to the hospital for treatment and retrieval of evidence (dna from the body or clothing)
If you have physical evidence that clears it right up.
Too bad no one cared about helping a rape victim or catching a rapist.
thank you...will go over that after I get the kiddies to bed.
No paragon of virtue there.
It appears that Sandusky has been a known
pederast for over fifteen years.pederast |ˈpedəˌrast|Do you now understand or do
noun
a man who indulges in pederasty.pederasty |ˈpedəˌrastē|
noun
sexual activity involving a man and a boy.
I need to put it into smaller words ?
Because a bunch of them are ramping up a Jerry Sandusky Legal Defense Fund.
“He did have an ethical responsiblity to put a stop to it by reporting him to the police and telling other key people (donors) to the charity that McQueary saw Sandusky anally raping a 10 year old boy on campus.”
Which becomes libel or slander if the accusation turns out to be false. Telling donors and so on that somebody is, or even might be, a kiddie diddler is something you had darned well be able to prove.
The MOST he could have done would be to get McQueary to call the police, which would probably have been futile after the fact. He did take it to his superior, and it went to the person who ran campus security.
What a shock to see a PA flag flying on your homepage.../sarc
Careful Sara. I got called nasty things yesterday for making a similar argument.
Tempers are very high here about this. It's binary, there's no nuance allowed. The folks who want to tell us how heroic they would have been under the circumstances don't want to hear a word raised against their position.
Franco Harris’ son, F. Dok Harris, ran for Mayor of Pittsburgh as a democrat.
Re: “Now a little moral question, what would you fail to report for fear of a lawsuit or losing your job? Rape, murder, child rape?” If I saw it personally, I’d pick up the phone and call 911 on the spot. Or get a weapon and stop it myself, assuring I was 100 percent sure. As shown by the armed citizen who intervened in the Gabrielle Giffords shooting, you make 100 PERCENT sure before you squeeze a trigger. The man did, and it turned out the “armed” “bad guy” had just wrested the actual bad guy’s weapon away from him.
Ever hear of Tawana Brawley and Al Sharpton? Sharpton acted on hearsay evidence and began to accuse people of rape, and he got himself one heap big lawsuit. Remember Duke Lacrosse and the Durham Dirtbag? How about the Amiraults? Yes, if you SEE something wrong you report it on the spot but you also make sure you don’t make a false accusation. There is a moral obligation on that side as well.
The issue is that he has a son, and a common law wife (at least at one time). I think it is horrible that people are smearing Harris as being gay just because he disagreed with the board of trustees.
How does a man learn of a child being “assaulted”, even if he had not let McQueary finish the sentence and say “anally raped”, look at the man, Sandusky month after month, know that the man is around children all of the time, and not scratch his head and think...
“Damn! Nobody has done anything? Does anyone know or care? I think I’ll drive past the police precinct on my way home and ask them if they know.”
If you think a crime is being committed and no one has done anything about it, according to what you know, you have a responsibility to become the most annoying citizen on the planet and INFORM THE POLICE AGAIN AND AGAIN BECAUSE CHILDREN’S LIVES ARE AT STAKE!
Re: “The man did, and it turned out the armed bad guy had just wrested the actual bad guys weapon away from him.”
I meant the armed citizen made 100 percent sure, and therefore did NOT shoot the good guy who had just disarmed the bad guy.

The police need PROOF, and not repetitions of the same concerns over and over again. “become the most annoying citizen on the planet and INFORM THE POLICE AGAIN AND AGAIN” won’t protect any children.
If McQueary had had a cell phone camera (I have yet to figure out how to use the one in mine, but maybe I should), he could have given the police something they could have worked with. If he had called them on the spot, they might have arrived in time to see for themselves. As matters stood, he or Paterno could have called them every hour on the hour and nothing would probably have been done, because police need EVIDENCE to do anything.
