Now that Wisconsin allows people to carry concealed guns, here's one thing you might want to know: That includes your home. That means that everyone from the Mary Kay lady to the plumber can come into your home packing heat, unless you tell them they can't, or unless you post a sign.
The law, which allows people to apply for licenses to carry concealed guns, knives, Tasers and billy clubs, went into effect on Nov. 1.
People who oppose the law -- according to some polls they make up the majority of the state -- might be put off at having to stick a sign on their door to keep guns out of the home. But I think it beats having to tell everyone who comes to the door that they need to put their gun in the car.
So I'm going to buy a sign, which are being sold at the Madison City Clerk's office in Room 103 of the City-County Building at 210 Martin Luther King Blvd., from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The sign, a 5-inch-by-7-inch vinyl sticker, costs $5.

It is really stupid for businesses to put up no gun signs. If a customer or employee (permit holder) is denied the right to keep their gun on the premises and there is an incident that results in harm from a criminal, the business owner has more legal liability for damages.
But they will leave their guns outside and beat you to death with a baseball bat.
Being beat with a baseball bat is much preferred to being shot don't you know.
Contrary to nearly everyone here, I see this in a different light. In a concealed carry state the sign allows the homeowner to tell any visitor, guest, service person that his/her concealed firearm is not allowed in the house. It in no way says the owner of the house does not own a gun. If anyone on FR believes a person does not have the right to deny a visitor the right to carry a firearm in their own home, than you believe property rights mean nothing
The liberal mind at work.
Your Capital Times is a barrel of laughs...
**...unless you tell them they can’t, or unless you post a sign. ***
Back about 1968, after the riots and assasination of Bobby Kennedy the following signs began to appear around city areas in the East.
SOUL BROTHER
***
THIS HOUSE IS NOT ARMED.
Others bagan to lock and load causing a cartoonist to portray a white man cleaning his shotgun, while his wife says...”For heaven’s sake Harold. Can’t we just put up a sign that says SOUL BROTHER”?
You are, of course, correct.
Of course, there are many who would interpret the sign differently, as to mean the owner is unarmed. That might take a little while to sort out.
As for me, If I can't trust someone in my home armed, I can't trust them to be there at all.
WHy don’t they just sell signs that say “No gun (or baseball bat) in the house. Please rob us”.
“I see stupid people everywhere.”
Think I’ll post one at each of the ranch gates, as well as on each door.
Of course, it won’t apply to me, but may be a bit like baiting a coyote trap...
Note to self: Buy ‘No Baseball Bats’ sign.
The only time I’ve ever seen a sign like that was posted well inside the door. By the time I saw it I thought to myself, “Yea right - like I’m going to march all the way back out to my car and risk having someone see me stash my piece just so this guy can feeeeeeel good about himself”.
I did respect his rights enough that I never patronized his store again ;-)
...too much like shooting over bait. (8^D)
OK, how about a series of range markers going up the driveway, with the ranges on both sides, and a wind indicator ribbon on each post?
800 yds.
700 yds.
600 yds.
500 yds.
etc.
Just when I think the loony left can't reach a higher level of stupid, they always surprise me.
Evidently there are many people who do not understand the definition of “Concealed”. I have gone CCW into a few businesses that posted these signs. Nobody asked, nobody told.
The worse that can happen is that you are asked to leave.
Darn shame I am not a criminal. LOL
Stupidity isn’t just for lunch anymore.
This is from the Capital Times whose staff probably prefers that you surrender all your worldly goods to the “poor and oppressed.” I think they’d like it to be a crime to defend your home against criminals, they hate the concept of self-defense so much. How dare you make tons of money while raping the the less well-off. Cheerfully give up your possessions to the needy. Just like Michael Moore shares his multi-millions with the masses. (smirk)
The real risk is that visitors to your home will leave their firearms lying there on the front seat of their car where they can be easily taken by your friendly neighborhood cat burglar.
Frankly, these lawmakers who imagine we want firearms just sitting there for the taking are nuts.
We are better off knowing the OWNERS have those firearms fully under their control at all times.
Is it OK if I bring wasp spray into your house...or a pen...or a rolled-up magazine...or my fists...or...
What fools!
LIBs entertain me but they make me blanch at their idiocy.
