One of Colorado's top football recruits announced that he no longer intends to play for Penn State.
Joey O'Connor, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound offensive lineman who attends Windsor, decided to reconsider his college options because of the recent scandal at the university.
Joey O'ConnorWe're taking it day by day. I decommitted just to relieve all this pressure off my family, my teammates, my coaches and myself," O'Connor told Windsor Now.
O'Connor said he notified the Penn State coaching staff of his decision, and that he will wait until after the high school season to renew his college recruitment. His team is seeded fifth in the Class 3A state playoffs, and will open postseason play on Saturday.
MaxPreps recruiting expert Tom Lemming has O'Connor rated as one of the top offensive tackles in the country. According to Windsor Now, he had pared his final college choices to Penn State, Utah, UCLA and Tennessee. He said he already has been receiving calls from schools.
"Now, everything's at the same playing field and it's a zero-zero game right now," O'Connor told the newspaper.
While the scandal affected his college choice, O'Connor was most concerned for the victims of the child sex-abuse scandal. He also expressed concern for former Penn State coach Joe Paterno.
"It's a tragedy. My heart goes out to those families and those victims, and it's a shame that they have to go through this," O'Connor told the newspaper. "My thoughts and my prayers are with them."
As for Paterno: "When I was sitting at Coach Paterno's kitchen table it was genuine, and I knew that he was a genuine person. I still believe that. This doesn't take away from everything else that he has accomplished. It's a tragedy, and it breaks my heart to see all this going down."
More will follow. Many more -- many who would otherwise commit...taking a detour to another campus.
For years to come.
Expect transfers, as well. Lots of transfers.
Doesn't sound like the kid has what it takes to be Penn State material anyways.
“Expect transfers, as well. Lots of transfers.”
As well they should.
Who wants to go to Predator State University?
what a decent young man..bet his family has strong moral values.
Joey O’Connor, if you’re reading this, give Jerry Kill a call.
He’s the head coach at the Univ of Minnesota.
He’s embarked at rebuilding our team. I’m just about sure that there’d be a full ride scholarship - and better yet, you could probably play right away!
Which might mean Minnesota could someday beat a Big Ten team not named Iowa.
The more I think about that animal Sandusky and all the support he received to continue raping little innocent boys the more I become enraged.
Sandusky should be publicly stonded and left in the middle of the Penn State town square for the ravens to pick his worthless corpse clean.
Good. I hope Penn State never gets another football player ever.
Who wants to play football for a pedophile sex school?
Penn State remains a great university. Count on this—we will rise again, stronger than before.
When asked if Sandusky could impact alumni donations, Jim Lyons, a Penn St. alum Class of 76 responds, Absolutely, man. Its a pride thing, Hes up from Philadelphia for the game, walking around College Avenue in downtown State College, right across from campus. Its going to be going from pride to shame.

Penn State Pride? Or Perv State Shame?
Penn State Pride? Or Pedo State Shame?
Penn State Pride? Or Predator State Shame?
The Time Mag article linked above also says that @ the Student Vigil tonight, done ostensibly to remember the victims (and certainly it focused on that), included..."The crowd sung Imagine, the Beatles song..."
Tell us, Sand Lake Bar...did Friday night's vigil include the singing of this line from "Imagine?": Imagine there's no Heaven / It's easy if you try / No hell below us / Above us only sky
So even when you would hope that a university town would turn most to God to help it out of its plight, it wants to erase God...and ANY and ALL ultimate accountability, eh?
Sorry, Penn Staters. Sorry student body. Sorry Lyin' Alumni.
Matter and the "turf" that's on your football field and this world ain't all there is.
I would hope this becomes an opportunity to regain your corporate soul...vs. forfeiting it while trying to gain the world...
It really is tragic that thousands of people will have to pay for the shame of one.
Penn State is a community of good and strong people of all faiths and creeds. We are well able to restore our institution’s good name.
Why were there riots in favor of a child rapist enabler?
Clean house. Get the perverts and abusers in jail.
Hope the Feds go RICO on all the conspirators.
PS president Graham Spanier was also firedhis bgrnd answers the one question on everyones mindhow Sandusky got free rein in the PS showers with young boys.
Did Spanier participate, as well? He certainly had an obsession with pederasty and moved hell and high water to give gay sex a foothold in PS.
VITAL REFERENCE Paterno is getting the most attention, but FREEPER PA BOOKENDS posted this WRT Graham Spanier, the President who was also fired.
Spaniers degrees are in sociology with an emphasis on things sexual wife swapping, adolescent sex. He claimed he wanted to make PSU the most LGBT-friendly university in the country. Penn State had the first gay fraternity in the nation. Under Spaniers leadership, Penn State has sponsored the Tent of Consent - all about gay sex, as well as C*ntfest (I hope you find that shocking).
Shortly after his arrival, Spanier tried to get rid of Paterno. Hmmmm. Why would that be? The football program was bringing in tons of money. Paterno was (and remained) one of the LOWEST paid college coaches in the country. He, Paterno, has donated millions to the University. Spanier lost the battle, but one has to ask: why was Spanier so eager to get rid of Joe??
It becomes clearer and clearer why Spanier was out to ditch Paterno-Spanier had to clear out any and all obstacles in his path to solidifying Penn State as a protected pedophilia haven.
Much in the same way that a “Cougar” is an older woman who goes after young men, a “Nittany Lion” is now the name for a homosexual pedophile.
The faggy University President and professors organizing student orgies will never look the same again - hopefully. Maybe the University pushing homo sex on young men there, won’t be so seen as so harmless.
What makes all these old liberals think students want them inserting their saggy asses into the middle of young people’s sex lives and sexual idenities?
