Newt Turns Fire on Cain (ugh!)
FoxNews ^ | 11/11/11 | ALEXANDER BURNS

Newt Gingrich said Friday that Herman Cain should not have joked about Anita Hill potentially endorsing him for president, arguing in a radio interview that harassment is “not something to be joked about.”

Just goes to show that Newt - smart as he is - is just too tied into the Beltway establishment to advance the conservative cause.

I saw the video clip regarding the Anita Hill "joke" and it was as benign as could be. Besides, does anybody seriously think that Cain is going to lose votes by having a little fun at Anita Hill's expense?

Anybody who is a supporter of Anita Hill and her silly "pubic hair on the Coke" attempt to derail Clarence Thomas isn't going to vote for a Republican anyhow. It's time that conservatives stopped worrying about offending people who would never vote for them in the first place.

I think the bigger point is that Cain making these type of statements isn’t particularly wise. Certainly these statements are meant in jest. However, they become a distraction when Cain is supposed to be trying to get back on message. These comments only serve to keep the story alive when Cain’s focus should be putting the story to rest.

This is another indication of inexperience. Inexperience in politics can - and most likely will be - fatal in the general.

Wow states fact and gets attacked for it. How surprising coming from Cainiacs. Yeah it was a joke and people need to develops a sense of humor, but Newt is talking practicality.

Gaffs like that will not endear Cain to the general voting public. Newt understands things like that, Cain has yet to learn it, apparently.

I think it will be Newt and Mitt going for the nomination. Makes me want to vomit. I will NOT vote for Mitt against Obama, I would rather see the Republicans be able to stop him at every turn from Congress, if Mitt wins Republicans will be expected to back him. Newt is not much better, but i would probably hold my nose and vote for him.

Since Anita Hill wasn't really harassed, the joke wasn't about harassment.

Sometimes Newt demonstrates a severe lack of a sense of humor.

Yeah, he really shouldn’t be casting stones when it comes to what kind of joke relating to women is acceptable or not... one of them has been married over 40 years and one has not.

I’ll take the advice on humor from the one that has managed to keep a woman by his side that long, thanks.

I’m not a Caniac, however, it was Newt, not Cain, who made the revealing gaffe in this case.

Newt Gingrich said... that harassment is “not something to be joked about.”

Of course, allegations that Cain made women uncomfortable (aka sexual harassment) doesn't rise to the level of adultery, Newt.

Just the mention of Anita Hill’s name makes me want to puke. Can’t shake the disgusting visual.

Before you start flaming me... Cain was on Cavuto today and this very topic came up. Cavuto suggested in a question that this kind of stuff can become a liability. Cain agreed that he needed to tone it down a notch. However, that notch was only going to go from a 10 the a “9”...

What a waste of a brilliant mind.

You'd think he'd be smart enough to realize that his remarks actually give Hill's allegations credibility, not to mention the MSM indignation on behalf of Hill for what Cain joked about. Hill is the left's darling and will be protected for the rest of her life for what she did for them.

No it doesn’t. Newt is spinning this for the media. Cain had a funny retort to a funny statement. Newt just dropped in my book.

Actual harassment is not something to joke about. The expansion of “harassment” into a catchall by which anything which offends a potential beneficiary of affirmative action (unless he or she happen to be a conservative) can be used as the basis for a nebulous charge that invokes images of actual harassment when none took place, however, should be the subject of jokes, ribaldry, parody, mockery, farce, hijinks and derision.

Today we'd imprison Newt's first wife for abusing a student. She was a school teacher 7 years his senior. He was in her class. She was boinking him.

Think of her half mounted on a large motorcycle, wearing a thong bikini ~ you get the idea.

Jail time.

She ruint Newt! Destroyed his ability to trust any woman or stay true to her.
