Booing the Character Issue - We should care if the accusations against Cain are true.
National Review ^ | 11/11/2011 | Mona Charen

Posted on 11/11/2011 5:56:26 AM PST by TBBT

I think I understand why the audience at Wednesday’s CNBC debate booed Maria Bartiromo’s question to Herman Cain about sexual-harassment allegations. They don’t believe there is any truth to them. They suspect, along with the candidate, that the women concerned are part of a liberal lynch mob out to smear another strong, conservative, black man. They know that accusations of sexual harassment are often nebulous and PC. If I guess correctly, they also believe — with considerable justification — that the press is less interested in the dry details of policy than in salacious tales of misbehavior. They resent being dragged into another smutty distraction.

Yes, but. As someone who was well-disposed toward Herman Cain as a public figure (if not as a potential president), I cannot help recalling the response of Democrats to revelations about Bill Clinton. “We know all about it,” one exasperated reader wrote to Newsweek magazine, “and WE DON’T CARE.” In fact, the majority of Americans did not care — and it was not our finest moment as a nation. Liberals, who professed to be appalled by the one accusation against Clarence Thomas (just one non-contemporaneous accusation — not four or five), dismissed Bill Clinton’s behavior as no big deal. Stuart Taylor noted at the time that even if everything Anita Hill said about Clarence Thomas were true, it would not be nearly as serious as the allegations against Bill Clinton. Conservatives argued at the time that character mattered. Liberals replied, in effect, that it didn’t...

The NRA represents the NRA. If Cain was in trouble, he would have gotten his own lawyer. They sued the NRA cause that's where the money is. I spent 30 years with Southwestern Bell and witnessed many such suits. If Cain were in question, the NRA would have let him go on a "morals clause" in almost every contract I've ever seen. The women were free to go after Cain but chose the NRA. If the NRA would have found for the women, the NRA would have gone after Cain.

Move on, nothing to see here.

PS. I say women instead of woman because they say women. To my knowledge, it only one woman and she has been discredited twice. The other woman alleged sexual assault that she didn't bother to call the police over. All I can say about that is "Too bad, So sad.

In this country, one is innocent until proven guilty. When these ladies bring forth some evidence, I'll listen. Until then, STFU.

These people are here to help take out Cain. Talking to them won't do any good. They're here to push the negatives, and they're just using FReeper posts to do it. Any post will do. They just pick one.

Alinski rule #11 - If you push a negative hard and deep enough it will break through into it's counter side. They believe, and for some FReepers it will work, the constant repetition of a lie will eventually make it the truth, or at least enough of a truth to manipulate those who are listening.

Shun them.

As with the affect the charges have had on the general voting public, their charges here will work against them as well. The only ones who may buy into it are those already holding biases against Cain; mostly because they already support another candidate.

All these people are doing is establishing their acceptance of Romney as the “chosen” candidate. We know who to blame...

Don't fall into the trap set by the same machine and allied machines that so ruthlessly ruined the reputation of anyone who brought claims against Clinton.

They RELY on "open minds" and folks who want "to be fair to both sides". You do not have an open mind, you have a trained, battle-tested, mind. You are a great Freeper of long-standing.

They are pitching to a market willing to accept as a given that any MAN is prone to such misbehavior, a mindset of readily presumed guilt. All they have to do is throw out false charges, charge after charge, yet even a fog of such utterly false charges has no fire in the middle of it.

Where there is smoke there will be a fire, but where there is a fog there is no fire at all. These malevolent attacks against Mr. Cain are all a FOG.

Of course I care if the allegations are true. The first paragraph of this editorial is the only one that matters. At least to me.

There is no “Yes, but”. Not right now. Unlike with the Toon, there is no credible proof of any of these allegations. In fact, all evidence DOES point to some kind of conspiracy, if not an active one, a passive effort to just cash in while nailing an “evil Republican”.

The point Mona is missing is that we conservatives have no reason to believe anything the media says at face value. We are sick of defending our own against “anonymous sources”. We are sick of responding to people like Bailek who has, at least, iffy connections to typical Dem slime machines. We are sick of always being on the defense at the whim of a biased press.

Come to me with valid proof against Cain, and I’ll be the first to bail on him. Otherwise, Mona et. al. at NRO, why don’t you ask, “Who is paying Gloria Allred’s bill?”. “Why do all these allegations come out against Cain from a time when he served the NRA? Did he suddenly become some kind of horn dog during that time, but not before, not after?”

NRO, et. al., “investigate” THOSE questions why don’t you? Quit taking the word of women over a man, simply for gender biases. Until then, there simply is no “Yes, but”.

I am going to take that if I may. Nice images.

Yep. I'll bet they didn't like Palin, either. She, too, was a threat. I'm sure they have all kinds of propaganda "facts" about her, too.

Fascist "you will think as I do or else get banned" talk notwithstanding.

You are disgusting. I just called abuse on you. You are a hateful person for distorting what I've said then making such abusive statements as this.

Mona, Mona, Mona, you missed two main points:

1.) The debate was promoted to be confined to economic issues. When the Liberal Attack Media (LAM) chose Maria to attack Cain on a non-economic issue she violated the boundaries of the debate rules. Cain 1, Maria 0, LAM -1.

2.) When the LAM chose a woman to harass a man on unproven charges of sexual harassment, the LAM AND Maria were guilty of sexual harassment in front of MILLIONS of viewers and a live audience! Cain 1, Maria -1, LAM -1 X 10^8.

BTW Mona, next time just put yourself in the Candidate’s shoes when the LAM attacks again. Oops, sorry, I forgot! You ARE a member of the LAM. My bad.

BTW, BTW, we are NOT part of the LAM, so to us Character Matters, a point that we both agree on, and we believe that Character Assassination BASED ON UNPROVEN EVIDENCE is pre-judgement.

Yep, the LAM is prejudiced.

I was just called a "Fascist" by one of them. I called reported abuse. Their 'fruits' are apparent.

If they can get away with this guilt by accusation smear at Cain, YOUR candidate will be next.

Well, it looks like Cain got away with his "guilt by accusation smear" against Perry. Now he's saying it's the Dems who were behind the leaks.

Yes... It’s been a while since I’ve came around here. I lurk but don’t generally post... I generally get more excited - and get more motivated to start typing - the closer we come to elections... After this coming election - I’ll probably be so spent that I’ll again want to take another break/breather....

Mr. Cain and his staff invited more criticism by trying to ignore it. Lousy staff work.

I’m referring only to what his suporters are saying. Many of you sound just like Lanny Davis. Not good.

Careful....

Alinski.....
"The real action is in the enemies reaction.
The enemy properly goated and guided in his action will be you major strength."
[Use your enemies anger against them. You can then move on to Alinski rule #4 - ridicule is mans most potent weapon. (proving a negative).

NEVER get angry. Stay calm. Be polite, and keep bringing the discussion back to the facts. A leftist cannot win an honest debate.

Otherwise, shun them. No communication = no manipulation.

I like this scandal: it has clearly sorted the wheat from the chaff within the ranks of our party.

Witnessing the amount of chaff here on FR is both enlightening and disappointing.
