Last Man Standing (Why does Mike McQueary still have a job at Penn State?)
The Slate ^ | Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011 | Josh Levin

Joe Paterno is out at Penn State, but his assistant Mike McQueary, right, is still expected to coach Saturday

On March 1, 2002, Mike McQueary allegedly walked into the Penn State locker room and saw Jerry Sandusky raping a young boy. According to the grand jury report in the Sandusky case, McQueary—then a 28-year-old graduate assistant for the Nittany Lions football team—“left immediately, distraught.” McQueary then called his father, who advised him to tell coach Joe Paterno what he’d seen. He did as his father advised, and a short while later, he told Penn State’s athletic director Tim Curley and administrator Gary Schultz as well. A few weeks later, the report explains, Curley told McQueary “that Sandusky’s keys to the locker room were taken away and that the incident had been reported to The Second Mile,” Sandusky’s nonprofit for at-risk children. Until he testified before the grand jury, that’s where the story ended for Mike McQueary. He was never interviewed by Penn State police, and he never reported Sandusky’s actions to any other agency.

In the week since we’ve learned of Sandusky’s horrible crimes and Penn State’s negligence in reporting them, almost everyone who could conceivably have done anything to stop the alleged child molester has resigned or been dismissed. Paterno is out. So are Curley and Schultz and Penn State President Graham Spanier. But Mike McQueary, now Penn State’s receivers coach, still has a job, and as of Thursday afternoon, he’s supposed to coach in Saturday’s football game against Nebraska. How you feel about McQueary’s job status depends on how you choose to parcel out blame. Do you find the most fault with a man who witnessed a disgusting criminal act and didn’t report it to the police?

Mc Query should have stopped the rape, called the cops and an ambulance for the kid. To do any less is unthinkable. I can’t fathom any one doing any less.

Amen

+1

Was this graduate student McQueary given a plum couching job in return for his after the fact silence?

I’d hate to think so.

McQueary

When I first heard this name on the radio, I thought it was mis-pronounced, or I heard wrong.

What a QUEER name!

Is he an accomplice, an enabler or just another packer?

If your refering to Mark Madden, he talked about the abuse allegations months ago.

I’ve read the indictment. He seems to be getting a pass. The Grand Jury says they find him “extremely credible”. I find him to be an insect.

If I saw a man sodomizing a boy in the showers there would be violence AND an immediate call to police. I wouldn’t call my dad, boss, coaches, or anyone else.

It seems he was more concerned with hanging on to his job than doing what is right.

The police would have been able to prove then and there that the boy had been raped.

This guy should have been thrown out with the rest of the trash.

Not arguing your point, but why isn’t the college President and his nomination as Secretary of Education being NOTED in the MSM, the appointed one Arne Duncan, skirts are no cleaner.
Source: Wikipedia DISCUSSION SECTION.

I just saw a story on TV a few minutes ago about child abuse in the Chicago Public Schools. Reportedly, there are about 600 confirmed cases of children being physically abused by teachers in the Chicago Public Schools, but only about 20 teachers have been “separated.” Obviously, if he (Duncan) did not do everything within his power to protect children while he was the CEO of Chicago Public Schools, he needs to be fired from his current position as Education Secretary. What did he know? 206.251.3.202 (talk) 21:07, 11 February 2009

"What kind of limp wristed sissy calls his father to ask what to do in that situation, instead of trying to stop a child from being raped?"

The fact that McQueery needed moral and ethical guidance under such incredibly unambiguous circumstances suggests to me that he was raised in such a manner that his father was probably the last person he should have sought guidance from.

When I was in the fourth or fifth grade, I became fascinated by knights and the notion of chivalry. At that age I understood the concepts of defending the defenseless and sticking up for those unable to protect themselves. That a healthy 28-year-old male enrolled in a graduate program at a major university dithered and wavered when confronted with such a clear cut situation tells me a lot about the way he was brought up. His father did a f#cked up job of imparting his son with any sense of values, and apparently gave his son more f#cked up guidance when he called him in March 2002 asking what to do.

The University may say that he was a graduate assistant, not on the coaching staff, so they may try to give him a pass.

Obviously, this guy was trying to get on the coaching staff. He sees a former coach (Sandusky) is the perpetrator, so he goes asks Daddy what he should do. Realizing that if he overturns the apple cart, his chance at coaching is out the window. So he sees Joe Pa THE NEXT DAY, to discuss it. Joe makes sure to minimize the account of the incident, and McQueary at some point joins the coaching staff. Hmmm, I wonder if the coaching position was a quid pro quo.

Too bad it didn’t happen in the baseball locker room. Someone could have bashed Sandusky’s skull in with a baseball bat.

I expect Penn State to shell out millions due to their malfeasance. I also think the Penn State police chief needs to be canned. He instructed his detectives to cease their investigation after they told him they had credible evidence the assault occurred in 1998.

Yes.

He was promoted by serial homosexual child-rapist enabler Coach Joe Paterno to Wide Receivers Coach.

I'm not kidding.

I know and he was right. That's why I'm afraid he might be right about the pimping too. I sure hope not. If there was a whole ring of those pedophiles who knows how many boys might have been victims?

There is a rumor, and I hasten to emphasize it is a rumor, being spread by a sports talk guy in Western PA that Sandusky was giving big time donors access to boys from Second Mile.

Madden is the one who wrote the original story seven months ago that was picked up by the podunk Beaver County Times. They may end up with Pulitzers.

Anyway, the word he was using this morning was "pimping," as in Sandusky being Huggy Bear.
