Last Man Standing (Why does Mike McQueary still have a job at Penn State?)
The Slate ^ | Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011 | Josh Levin

Joe Paterno is out at Penn State, but his assistant Mike McQueary, right, is still expected to coach Saturday

On March 1, 2002, Mike McQueary allegedly walked into the Penn State locker room and saw Jerry Sandusky raping a young boy. According to the grand jury report in the Sandusky case, McQueary—then a 28-year-old graduate assistant for the Nittany Lions football team—“left immediately, distraught.” McQueary then called his father, who advised him to tell coach Joe Paterno what he’d seen. He did as his father advised, and a short while later, he told Penn State’s athletic director Tim Curley and administrator Gary Schultz as well. A few weeks later, the report explains, Curley told McQueary “that Sandusky’s keys to the locker room were taken away and that the incident had been reported to The Second Mile,” Sandusky’s nonprofit for at-risk children. Until he testified before the grand jury, that’s where the story ended for Mike McQueary. He was never interviewed by Penn State police, and he never reported Sandusky’s actions to any other agency.

In the week since we’ve learned of Sandusky’s horrible crimes and Penn State’s negligence in reporting them, almost everyone who could conceivably have done anything to stop the alleged child molester has resigned or been dismissed. Paterno is out. So are Curley and Schultz and Penn State President Graham Spanier. But Mike McQueary, now Penn State’s receivers coach, still has a job, and as of Thursday afternoon, he’s supposed to coach in Saturday’s football game against Nebraska. How you feel about McQueary’s job status depends on how you choose to parcel out blame. Do you find the most fault with a man who witnessed a disgusting criminal act and didn’t report it to the police?

Because he is a state witness and PSU can’t retaliate?

Been wondering that myself.

He did nothing to stop it. It ties in with my tagline.

He should be gone too, and definitely not out on the field during Saturdays game, as they have said.

He's got to go IMHO. The AD and VP were indicted for failing to report this under the child protective services act in addition to perjury. Paterno was fired. Why should he get a pass? At a minimum he should have reported when he found out the AD had not reported this to the proper authorities.

And what about the rules for well-bred men and leaders of men? Why didn't he do something to stop that rape in progress??? I would not trust him to be in a leadership position with a child of mine.

One rumor about is that the matter was taken to Pres Spanier, and his judgement was, “As long as it was consensual...” it would get a pass.

Spanier, who vowed to make PSU the most gay-friendly campus around.

“As long as it was consensual...”

Life under Soddomite Rule.

They will probably adapt well to Muslim Sharia law, after they easily convert.

He’s been removed from the sideline.

Not enough. Fire them all.

How high up does the rot go? Politicians... Major donors to the school...

I just copied this directly from another thread.

McQueary certainly should be fired immediately exactly as Paterno was.

Most or all of the coaching staff without a doubt was aware of the situation throughout the years and they should all be fired. They undoubtedly will be questioning many, many people in the ongoing State and Federal investigations of Sandusky’s “charity”, the football program, administrative management, the board, anyone else that has evidence or knowledge.

The 13-year coverup is a direct result of the sodomite agenda in America and I would say that it is straightforward to grasp how the agenda creates the moral failure.

A guy like McQueary is an EYE-WITNESS. He is very confused. Fifty years ago he would have had perfectly clarity in his mind that he had to immediately try to do all he could to a) stop the rape and b) simultaneously call for help and the authorities - exactly the same response one would make if one saw any other violent crime in progress.

But we live in times of moral collapse - because sodomy amongst adults is INSTITUTIONALLY CONDONED, PROTECTED BY GOVERNMENT AND THE LAW and CELEBRATED by a powerful, vocal and morally bankrupt minority segment of the population. If every one of those boys was raped on their 18th birthday, Sandusky would still be coaching and Penn State would be hailed as a bastion of liberal orthodoxy. Fornication is viewed by many as a pillar of American freedom. Because of this societal moral lapse - every child rape witness’s first thought now is to not react in such a way that THEY THEMSELVES - the witness - could be accused of a CRIME AGAINST THE PERPETRATOR OF THE RAPE by interrupting the crime or reporting it. The witness’s mind starts to race. “Is this activity I see good or bad ? Ok ? Funny ? To each their own ? Am I prejudiced ? Am I in trouble ? What if the victim is consenting and the attacker and the victim want their privacy ? Can they sue me if I report what I saw ?” Etc.

Not knowing our Gordian legal codes du jour in any detail whatsoever, the cowardly and confused response is to tell your supervisor, cover your ears, close your eyes and loudly repeat “LA LA LA LA LA” for about 5 minutes, then open one eye and see if everyone has walked away from you.

You don’t even want to think about the act, you’re trying to put it in the place in your memory where you keep secrets. So with all that mental effort at rationalizing there’s so much distraction your mind takes hours or days to come across the concept of maybe the victim really was a victim scared out of their wits. And you certainly don’t want to speculate in your mind about how old the victim was if they look young, because that just seems “wrong” to you - perhaps you can just say they looked older. Evidently, this moral confusion, further clouded by what can only be described as a cult of worship of football games and a self-important football hero of epic proportions, created a snowballing lie that infested what may prove to be hundreds or even thousands of people who enthusiastically blotted out the victims from their conscience.

Mc Query should have stopped the rape, called the cops and an ambulance for the kid. To do any less is unthinkable. I can’t fathom any one doing any less.

You ever wonder why the President of PSU is hardly mentioned in the MSM articles AND especially his connection with the Obama administration...maybe because:

or perhaps the venting had found out about Sandusky and they quietly walked away?

Here is a frightening though: As long as he is on payroll he can’t make any public statements.

There is a rumor, and I hasten to emphasize it is a rumor, being spread by a sports talk guy in Western PA that Sandusky was giving big time donors access to boys from Second Mile.

Why does Slate have a problem with this? I thought they were pro-sodomy. Sandusky was just engaging in a little man-boy love. Just like some of Obama's main contributors. Why, Islam practically glorifies what Sandusky did.

That was exactly my thought. What kind of limp wristed sissy calls his father to ask what to do in that situation, instead of trying to stop a child from being raped?

The guy should be blacklisted just for being pathetic, even without all the rest.

Sadly, in this day and age, the guy who “stopped the rape” would probably be labeled a homophobe and fired by College administrators. At least initially.

He should have called the morgue, after killing the sonofabitch.
