EL PASO, Texas -- Federal Reserve Chairman Ben S. Bernanke will be hosting a town hall meeting at Fort Bliss in El Paso with soldiers and their families and greet military personnel returning from combat.
Bernanke's trip to Fort Bliss is his first visit to an Army installation. It will also be his first visit to the state after GOP presidential candidate and Texas Gov. Rick Perry said earlier this year Texans would treat him "ugly" if he continued lowering interest rates.
Perry and other critics say that policy is akin to recklessly printing money. Another Texan seeking the presidency, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, favors abolishing the Federal Reserve.
Federal officials said the visit is part of outreach efforts by Bernanke but wouldn't say if it was planned before Perry's comments.

Doesn't say when. Must be a security thing.

Doesn't say when. Must be a security thing. Could be it's more of an "audience that's legally prevented from complaining" thing.

greet military personnel returning from combat
Part of Bernanke's speech should be:
'Hey guys, look what I did to the economy while you were gone.'

That is my question too. Bernake meeting with soliders is like a fish trying to ride a bicycle. The only thing I can think of is that the Fed is trying to improve its image after a few years of bad publicity.

As soon as Ben Bernanke shows his face on base, the MPs should arrest him and throw him in the stockade. Twenty-five to life at hard labor is about right.
