STATE COLLEGE -- More than a thousand Penn State students are moving between the campus and downtown, chanting in support of football coach Joe Paterno, whose job has been questioned over his handling of sex-abuse allegations involving a former coach.
Crowds began to gather around 10 p.m. on Beaver Avenue. After police in riot gear told them to move along, the students moved to Old Main. They sang the alma mater, professed their love for Paterno and profanely denounced Sandusky. They pointed toward Penn State president Graham Spanier's still-lit office. Then, after a brief "back to Beaver" chant, the crowd returned to Beaver Avenue.

Your point is well taken, but am I the only person on Free Republic who thinks we might wait until at least a preliminary hearing before passing judgment on the people involved? Geez!
In a nation with thousands of such cases annually, it is odd that this man is being hounded by the press. You suggested he ran the school as his own kingdom. Others held their tongues then? They are just as guilty and that pecking order could run into double digits of those who knew and did nothing.

Yes, others held their tongues and many have been fired and many more probably will, and should be. He is being hounded by the press because he couldn’t be a man, first he downplayed his responsibility then stated that he would “retire” at the end of the year. Is that what a man of honor and integrity does?
If my student was at Penn State she would be applying for a transfer to one of the schools she turned down. My daughter would walk away from such a place—forever. These unhappy students don’t understand the difference between a child’s life and football.
We don’t have to put ourselves in the mindset of twenty year holds. We are supposed to LEAD.
Big whoop.
Hit me on my pager when he gets arrested.
I haven’t used it in years, but then again I don’t expect to ever hear anything from you again anyways, so no big deal.
Even more....It is a HOMOSEXUAL CHILD RAPE SCANDAL !
But, IMO, this probably means it will get a very 'select' coverage by the MSM.
I read your prior posts also, and it sure sounded like you were making excuses for Paterno so don’t chastise those who had the same understanding. Make more of an effort to explain yourself better instead of getting all huffy, eh?

Nine very long years with kids still getting buggered at university facilities, and you call that a rush to judgment? You gotta be kidding me!!
JC
1. Learn to spell correctly.
2. Paterno put his career/popularity ahead of abused kids.
3. Got that?

What are you talking about? Is American jurisprudence to be followed everywhere except THIS ONE CASE? I personally think the guy is guilty, but I will give him the presumption of innocence until he is convicted. Do you not know that the presumption of innocence is a huge cornerstone of our legal system? Why is that different here?
Thank you for your clarification. I was not aware that Paterno waited 24 hours before reporting the rape incident to his boss. That is very significant and disturbing! I might have shot the SOB myself in that timeframe... I can’t believe some of the enablers here; what a bunch of useless turkeys that have no concept of honor and would trade a winning football season for rape of a few children!!
I’m thoroughly disgusted!!

What is different here is Joe Paterno waited one whole day before reporting this horrific crime, not to the cops but to his boss, then sat on his hands for nine long years while rapes continued at other Penn State facilities with ABSOLUTELY no followup on his part. That is by his own admission, with the very weak excuse that he “should have done more”! Damn right he should have done more and nine years earlier too with the cops, not the wimps in his chain of command! Whatsa matter with you??

I am so sorry for the students..and particularly the Football team, especially the seniors. I am releieved you are in touch with your child.
I know many alumni, they are talking this ting out among themselves and dealing with it...and none too happy with JoePa. The situation on the campus is way overheated. And near the end of the semester, when students are readying for finals. I can’t imagine trying to focus with such a huge distraction going on. I hope the immediate situation has cooled off by morning. I hope the healing can begin.
Are you really not aware of what a grand jury does?
“No protests in support of the victims, just for the enabler. Charming.”
Immaturity, in part, but a good example of why it’s ridiculous when the left and the media hold up ‘college students’ as beacons of public opinion and of what direction the nation should go in. Also a good example of why it is ridiculous to elect people to public office whose only experience in adult life comes from their time at a university and their political activism thereafter.
But education isn't. All it would take is to start pushing online education, video-based education with online back-up, and instituting widespread post-education aptitude testing to prove competence in specific subject matter (and to allow direct aptitude comparisons with those who attend ‘traditional’ venues). Few students in college ever get personal instruction from the faculty, and most of the time college tuition is a fee paid so that one can get legitimate credit for teaching oneself.
a homosexuals touches little boys and that now gets ignored because some students don’t want their coach to be fired.
So losing their coach is more important than the kids molested to some it seems, . How pathetic and sad has our country gone when this happens and it goes to show how social issues have left this country nearly.
