He was pretty good tonight, but not his best performance by any stretch. And I didn't think it was worthy of the “blew him away” comment unless you've never heard Cain speak before.

I think it was his very best performance. Under great duress from the gigantic, all-pervasive liberal media, Cain was impeccable: grace, wisdom, strength...etc., etc.

And he didn't step in anything.

No.

Two days ago, a white chick (with blue hair, piercings, and tattoos) who is a front-desk receptionist for a major corporation said this:

“All I know about him is he got his 9-9-9 plan from a video game, and he sexually harassed someone.”

So we pulled up the smoking man video, and when Mark Block came on the screen, she said: “Is that him?”

She didn’t even know Cain is black!!

No, I’m not kidding. Lots of people don’t know who Cain is.

And there are lots of states who hold primaries much later in the cycle, so they don’t pay any attention to politics until it is closer to their primaries.

I grew up in Oregon, and my vote never even mattered because the nominee (or the President) was already decided by the time we got to vote in the primary, or by the time our polls closed in the General Election.

Is that West Virginia Oregon of yore? (click my handle)

I've spent a few there when, around once a month, I ran my Norton from SF to Seattle--As a way-Station, I'd always hang out with a group who shared the same culture and dialect...

West Virginia? Don’t understand the reference.

It’s regular old Oregon.

But I grew up there before it got taken over by the California Liberals.

The state is still divided — western 1/3 of the state (where the population is, where the Californians live) votes liberal, eastern 2/3 of the state (farmers/ranchers/rural/native Oregonians) votes conservative.

Who won? Gingrich hands down just as w/ all the other debates. For me, there’s been a sea change. I’ve been leaning towards Cain, but am now leaning towards Gingrich.

The sexual allegations against Cain mean nothing, especially after that report in Atlanta w/ the lie software (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfNDbGRZnaw&feature=channel_video_title) that would indicate his innocence. However, the way he has handled the whole debacle, & more importantly, the people he has surrounded himself with are disconcerting. His campaign manager is a prize boob & should have been fired long ago!. So, he’s not a polished politician, but ask yourselves, how would you have handled these allegations? A seasoned CEO should have done better. I love the guy, but........

Reagan didn’t know everything going in, but he did surround himself w/ those that did. Cain is surrounded by the amateur hour. That’s not going to cut it vs. the Obama slime machine.

Cain is absolutely solid on the economy but truthfully lacks everywhere else.

The election will be won on contrast. There is not one area that Obama will have the upper hand & more knowledge than Newt. Let’s face it, Newt will absolutely DESTROY Obama in the debates, especially in the debate style he is proposing. That’s when most people will be watching & paying attention. Game, set, match.

People keep saying Newt’s got too much baggage. In comparison to Obama, he pure as the driven snow & that’s all that really matters. Every single one of these guys has baggage. Who can win hands down? That’s all that matters at this point. Obama MUST go!

All that said, I’m still waiting, but Newt’s looking better all the time.

Well, as one goes north in N. Calif and S. Oregon, there's a region or a culture of WWVa rednecks, jes like back home. Long been known as a migration from (guess) WWVa to Oregon.

Where in Oregon, are you?

Cain will be destroyed by Obama in debates????

Do you have some inside connections?? like maybe Obama will have a teleprompter?? because he will need one..

Cain is a very strong public speaker, smart, has held numerous CEO positions is worth millions, has class, character, dignity and respect...HE will do just fine against Hussein and he will be the Next POTUS...P.S. we are tired of professional politicians so the elective experience can be thrown out..

I bid you all ‘GOOD NIGHT’ and may our country survive this coming year...

Huh... I lived there my whole life and never heard that. But I was in the Portland area. I moved to the Gulf Coast 4 years ago, and it’s a whole ‘nother world down here.

We always called that SW Oregon and N California area the hippie area... pot smokers... pot growers... communes... sweat lodges... etc. ;-)

Did you watch the same debate?

They clearly had an agreement NOT to throw punches at each other this time. Gotta give a little credit to the moderators for that, too. Still, kudos to the audience - the clear winner of this debate.

I like your name because I tend to be cynical too. I would like to like Newt but I need something to help me see the true change. If you can point me to some things that you know I really would appreciate the help.

My concern is his character. As you said he had been in DC too long. He seemed to become gun shy at standing up for conservative principles. If you listen to Dick Army, maybe he was gun shy because of his philandering. There is a report that he used to visit Clinton where they would smoke cigars and chat about what they were up to. He also seemed to desire attention and approval which is never a good quality for leaders. The contract with America era was exciting for me and I wrote a card to Newt praising him for such a wonderful accomplishment. It just seemed to fizzle.

I seriously would like something to be confident that Newt has backbone to go with his great oratory skill and knowledge. Wisdom would be even better.

One avenue to get a picture into how he has grown is to read his books. Like the one on health care. Since leaving the beltway he has given some really serious thought and done some really serious soul searching on his positions. Another dramatic change I noticed was when he did the whole thing with the Pope. I think that contact and research caused him to seriously analyze his past. He’s also 20 years older having been without the constant peer influences he had during his many years inside the beltway.

From what I can see he has the experience and understanding about how the inside the beltway crowd works and how to get things done but now has the perspective of being outside the beltway and the base of a moral absolute from his faith that he didn’t have before.

I’ve watched Gingerich since his time with Reagan and there is a stark difference in stance on issues. While he does understand both sides of issues I believe he has a base for his beliefs that he didn’t have as solidly before.

Thank you for the thoughtful response. I will seriously consider what you said.

What will he do about global warming which has caused so many ill advised policy and spending decisions? Will he let that be a gimme to keep the left happy or will he shift it to advisers for input, in which case he better have very good advisers. Who is he looking to for global warming and environmental issues during the campaign?

>>What will he do about global warming which has caused so many ill advised policy and spending decisions?<<

He has stated that spending money on an unproved science is foolish. With that in mind he has also said that promoting clean efficient alternate energy sources is also wise. He has also said that borrowing money to push unprofitable sources of clean energy is stupid. The market decides what sources will work. Over all I think his views are moderate and well thought out.

>>Will he let that be a gimme to keep the left happy or will he shift it to advisers for input, in which case he better have very good advisers.<<

No one should disagree that some protections must be in place to keep uncaring enterprises from needlessly polluting the surrounding environment. I would use as an example of a lake up in New York State near Syracuse where the lake was so polluted that the bottom paint is eaten off boats left in the water. But Gingerich has stated a “common sense” approach needs to be maintained rather then the over the top rules in place now.
